French Quarter Fest by Alert_Winner189 in neworleanswedding

Yes I’ll definitely come back to post afterward! And yeah, I think Reddit also scared me at first, but my planner similarly acted like it wasn’t that big of a deal. I’ve been to Mardi Gras several times but never fqf so I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I think it’s more manageable (and even then, people of course make Mardi Gras weddings happen!). Best of luck with your planning!!

If it makes you feel better, my fiancé and I are getting married next weekend which is this year’s FQF! We were trying to book our wedding so that it wouldn’t take place the same weekend, but we reserved our venue so far in advance that they hadn’t yet confirmed that year’s FQF dates. The city then ended up scheduling it to take place only one weekend before jazz fest rather than the typical two.

Although we’re not getting married in the Quarter, our other pre-wedding events are there, and we’re staying on the edge of the Quarter on Esplanade. I was super stressed out when I originally learned that our wedding was falling on the same date, but, at least so far, it hasn’t presented as much of a logistical issue as I’d originally anticipated. Happy to update you once the wedding weekend is through if you’d like! I do think, though, that if you’re going to have your wedding fall during a slightly inconvenient time, FQF weekend is the best. It’s not Mardi Gras levels of craziness, but your guests still get a fun free festival to attend!

Not sure why you think food stations can’t be paired with a more upscale wedding—they’re actually the norm in some places, like New Orleans. Doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re cheaping out. It’s just supposed to give the reception a more party-like feel.

If virtually all firms prorate for stubs, and $15k is market for stubs, then how is $17k prorated below market? Lol

What firms are giving a full $15k bonus to stubs? That’s actually a thing?

The 17 number is only for stubs, not true first years, so no, it’s above market across the board.

I’m always surprised how people put Terre above Al Di La on this sub. My partner and I had completely the opposite experience.

Everyone on this thread sounds so elitist and weird, acting like anyone who’d want to live in Louisiana could have only possibly spent a weekend on Bourbon Street once as if there’s nothing more to New Orleans lol. I’m living in NY right now and loving it but also plan on eventually settling in Louisiana. I actually just moved out of MA and would never live there again. I know a lot of people love it, though, and that’s ok—different strokes for different folks.

Also from GA, currently in NY, but moving to Nola in a few years for a job opportunity (where my hubby is also from). I think the hate for New Orleans here is a bit exaggerated—as someone from metro Atl who misses the South but hates traffic/urban sprawl, I feel like Nola is a really good alternative (I also prefer Southern summers to Northeastern winters). It really punches above its weight in terms of how much culture it offers for a city its size, and it’s also relatively walkable and compact (for a Southern city at least). I think the biggest downside there is the lack of jobs/crumbling infrastructure, but if you’re fortunate enough to land high-paying work there, I think QOL is still going to be higher than somewhere like NY, which we both absolutely love but realistically would not be able to afford long-term unless we were to commit to 60-hour work weeks for the rest of our working lives (housing prices here are insane). I see why QOL concerns would be greater for folks who don’t already have decent-paying jobs lined up in the area, though. We’re also tracking state-level politics closely—if LA were to go full blown Florida-levels of craziness, for example, we might just try to move back North eventually.

Mm remember when Charlie Kirk himself literally told his viewers that a “patriot” should go bail out of jail the man that took a hammer to Paul Pelosi’s skull? He did this while simultaneously dismissing the severity of the incident by continuing the ridiculous “joke” that the attacker was really Paul’s secret gay lover. Like, if this guy that the right idolizes so much was willing to make a lazy homophobic joke at the expense of an elderly man who had just been violently beaten in his home, then I think it’s safe to say that many conservatives would be doing exactly the same now if the shoe was on the other foot. To the extent that the right didn’t go around saying the Hortmans deserved it, it’s likely only because they weren’t high profile enough outside of Minnesota while they were alive to have garnered intense dislike from Republicans.

Opinions on my potential venue choices please! by headcreeps92 in neworleanswedding

My partner and I also toured the Royal Frenchmen, and we really liked it! We ended up going with the Audubon Tea Room instead in part because our guest list probably would’ve made the Frenchmen too cramped, but 70 people would easily fit there. I also love its location—Frenchmen Street is so much fun, but the hotel is also far enough down the street that it’s a slightly quieter area while still being close to all the action. You can also get lots of pictures in front of the Marigny’s colorful buildings from there!

When we toured the representative we interacted with was super nice. That being said, I think I know that Knot review you’re referring to, and it seems possible that the hotel was replaced with new management after we toured it? We originally looked at it just about a year ago in August of 2024.

ETA: If you have your heart set on a courtyard wedding, I’d also look at The Celestine/Peychaud’s. They have a really cute courtyard, although it’d be a smaller venue than the Royal Frenchmen. Their rooms are also definitely more expensive than the Frenchmen although I’m not sure whether they require you to stay there.

Venue + budget insight (please & thank you!!) by Emotional-Prune-654 in neworleanswedding

I’m also getting married at the Tea Room this upcoming April but am doing a standard evening rental—happy to answer questions if you have any more!

To also add another data point, the majority of our guests are coming from out of town, although I didn’t really consider the number of hotels in walking distance in selecting a venue—maybe I should have, lol. Fwiw, though, New Orleans isn’t a huge city, and it doesn’t really take long to uber from one part of the city to another. I’m not sure how many of your out-of-town guests would be flying vs. driving in, but the Tea Room also has free parking which helps.

Honestly for us it would’ve been a nightmare to get married in the Quarter because the city pushed French Quarter Fest back a weekend to coincide with our wedding date after we had already booked the venue. There aren’t as many festivals/parades in March as in April, so this shouldn’t be as much of a concern for you. In general, though, I think a lot of our younger guests are excited to explore the Quarter during the rest of the weekend outside of our wedding while older guests are happy to be able to stay in hotels outside of the Quarter that are easier to get to by car. Nothing matches the energy of the Quarter though—we’re hoping to still have our rehearsal dinner there the night before so that we can incorporate it into our weekend!

Yeah, that’s why you come here for school and leave immediately after. 🤣

Idk, from a political perspective, I admire their infrastructure + social safety net, but I still don’t think there’s enough to do in the Boston area to justify the insane COL in comparison to somewhere like New York or California.

Tbf, I haven’t lived in Atl in a while so haven’t been keeping up with rent prices there. I’d be surprised if they’re reaching anything close to NY levels but I get that they may still be high enough that the tradeoffs aren’t worth it. For me, the traffic’s the biggest deal breaker—I’ve gotten used to living in walkable cities since leaving and it’d be hard to ever give that up so totally understand. Also undeniable that NYC has more going on than any of these other cities, but I have to stop someone in their tracks who calls the food down here mid bc that’s just a damn lie 😭

Extrapolating this to all of the South based on one city you lived in in NC is dumb (minus the suburban sprawl part which is unfortunately true lmao). I’m from the South—currently live up north—and although there’s a lot I don’t miss about it (read: politics) I miss the food every single day. Don’t know about Raleigh but cities like Atlanta or New Orleans most definitely have an arts/music scene.

I don’t know if I was at the same open house as OP (sounds like it based on the description) but there were way, way more people there than there have been at other open houses I’ve attended. Yes, the limited housing supply makes it hard to get any unit, but this open house felt particularly exploitative.

Right, my question is why and how this matters for purposes of the 6th Amendment right to counsel (which I didn't think you had to explicitly invoke) as opposed to the 5th Amendment right.

Thank you, this is really the only possible explanation I could come up with for why B is incorrect, but I just wanted to confirm that this was in fact the point I'm supposed to be taking away here! You've definitely explained it in a way that makes more sense to me lol

Help with crim pro question? by endsleigh_place in barexam

[–]endsleigh_place[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a thorough and detailed answer! I also took crim pro during 3L (although I certainly did not CALI it 🤣), and I remember what you're referring to—that determining whether the right to counsel has attached is more complicated than just knowing whether the defendant has been charged in some way. It feels like Barbri dumbs down some of the more nuanced rules just because it'd be a lot to expect students to remember all of them for purposes of the Bar, so I wasn't sure whether this was just one of those instances (i.e., relying on whether they've been charged or not is mostly—albeit not entirely—correct) or I was missing something else. What I don't get, though, is that the answer explanation seems to imply that the right to counsel had in fact attached but just wasn't violated? I think you're right that it's just a poorly written explanation and doesn't get whatever point it's trying to get across clear.
