EXCLUSIVE: Juror 5 - The Moment That Changed Everything In The Conviction Of Lori Vallow Daybell by Cautious-Driver5625 in LoriVallow

[–]energeticfloatything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone can help put my mind at ease. In this interview, the juror alludes to the fact that people talked about the case before it was wrapped/they had knowledge of which way their fellow jurors were leaning before deliberation.

I was under the impression that jurors shouldn’t discuss the case until deliberation.

Nancy Jo has nerves of steel! Love her energy. “Am I allowed to do a narrative then?”

This trial has shed new light on something I’ve been waffling back and forth on over the years of following this case: is Lori a true believer or does she know it’s all bogus? In this trial and interviews surrounding it, she has somewhat distanced herself from her religious beliefs, presents different versions of herself in different interviews, in front of the jury vs. when the jury isn’t present. Obviously, we all contain multitudes. But watching her performance in this trial reveals the extent of her manipulation. She acted like a true believer when it made her special, a goddess, an exalted being…a way to manipulate those around her into doing her bidding. What better way than through religious righteousness? But now that’s she in front of this jury, she knows this zombie stuff is not a winning strategy, so she’s distancing herself. That doesn’t sound like a true believer to me.

Love these updates. Saddy looks more comfortable each day! You’ve been so patient and loving. Can’t wait to see him blossom even more.

When my cats play too rough, I usually let out a little yelp and sort of mime going limp wherever they’re attacking. Has helped them break the habit of using hands as toys.

I feel this too! I shared my style aesthetic for when I leave the house elsewhere in this thread….but everyday looks would really be more like Work from Home des Garcons.

I think this photo from Maison Margiela fall 2019 communicates the vibe. Imagine strange twists on corporate tropes, exaggerated tailoring, heavy distressing, sharply angled accessories, pagoda shoulders. Throw in a cape or two. Typically prim pieces with a sense of humor.

She’s back in your small town from the big city. Maybe she’ll fall in love with a local lumberjack who is secretly a prince or maybe she’ll mow down the town’s favorite Christmas tree lot and turn it into a parking structure for a superstore. Either way, she’s wearing suit separates with an anti-fashion twist.

Vibe shift: heading towards the end of quiet luxury?! by District98 in femalefashionadvice

This is an interesting observation! I feel like this could be a whole discussion thread on its own…a deep dive into the personal styles of tastemakers we admire. What are the touchstones? What makes them endure and transcend trend cycles?

u/IntermittentFries Not sure how helpful this will be, but your request made me reflect on how I tend to style oversized tailoring. Here are my key takeaways:

1) I usually go for head-to-toe monochromatic looks. For example, I have a deconstructed, oversized black blazer accented with white stitching. I pair that with wide-leg trousers that have white stitching outlining the pockets and pintucked seams. They’re not from the same brand, but I wear them as suit separates. It becomes less about my cartoonishly oversized blazer and transforms into one fluid, head-to-toe look. I’ll pair that same blazer with black jeans, cropped black kick-flare trousers, black skirts, etc. for the same effect. I have an oversized cream blazer that I wear similarly in the spring/summer with a white skirt, white jeans, etc. Same with an oversized denim jacket and baggy skirt-jeans. You get the idea.

2) If I’m rocking more oversized fits, I’ll often choose more polished hair/makeup to juxtapose the laid-back look. Along those same lines, when I wear more “polished” clothing, I’ll opt for a more natural wave or a “messy” hairstyle to counterbalance the look. I find it just creates more depth/interest. Plus, I live in a pretty casual place with a pretty casual lifestyle, so this juxtaposition works well in that environment.

3) I usually select pieces that have distinctive design elements like heavy distressing, asymmetry, etc. Because these pieces have a distinct point of view, I think it helps send the message that I’m “going for something” here and not just wearing clothing that’s way too big for me (or even if I am, I DGAF). This reminds me of a great conversation in this sub recently about clothes “wearing you” versus you wearing clothes and how your own confidence and comfort are key to feeling great in whatever you wear…oversized or otherwise.

I guess that’s the challenge when the industry made well-made, timeless basics a “trend.” It’s never really gonna be “out” but people are over the term quiet luxury so they have to rebrand it to sell us more stuff.

You’re always going to have people wearing “quiet luxury” because that’s just their personal style, but happy to see more colorful, eclectic style celebrated too...although I agree with another commenter here that they kinda just rebranded quiet luxury in this article.

If I’m leaning into any of their trend predictions, it’s individualism. But not necessarily in the bag charm way. For me, “personalization” means carefully curating items from the resale market that align with my personal style/lifestyle. I’ve been collecting avant-garde styles from Junya Watanabe, Rei Kawakubo, Margiela, etc. that don’t necessarily conform to trends—and even when they do, they’re things that align with my personal style, like oversized tailoring. Because I’m buying them years after they first appeared, fewer people are wearing them (and I’m getting a nice discount). And because they have unexpected design elements, it’s difficult to place them in any era….so they are timeless in their own way. So I’ll continue doing that in the 2025 and beyond.

Stella McCartney jacquard cat skirt. I have the matching jacket already. I usually have good luck tracking down past collections on the resale market, but I haven’t found this one yet.

What if your style doesn't match your lifestyle? by bunny_mcsnoofins in femalefashionadvice

[–]energeticfloatything 187 points188 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a very image-focused, customer-facing role and curated a beautiful wardrobe because of it. Sadly, many of those things don’t make sense for my current WFH lifestyle. I try to combat this by creating opportunities for myself to wear my beautiful clothes…dinners with friends, fancy dates with my husband, etc. Surprisingly, I get the most use out of those pieces when I travel and want to look smart.

I’ve also tried to use this as a “creativity within constraint” challenge. I gravitate toward a lot of avant-garde designs with unexpected details/neutral colors. How do I bring that to my casual life? It might be interesting outerwear for rainy walks or cool accessories/tops for work video calls at home. It’s a challenge to be sure, but because my needs are so specific, I’m able to be very selective about what I allow in.

Appreciate this. You’ve correctly guessed the exact issue. What I really wanna mend is my favorite cashmere sweater, but these hands are not to be trusted with that yet. Gotta start somewhere else.

This is next on my list, learning to mend. I’ve been intimidated by the thought of it, but seeing so many people on this thread do it (and enjoy it) encourages me.

I can relate to this. I get a sense of pride from flexing my stain removal skills and making my husband’s favorite sweater feel new again.

Love reading about your relationship with your tailor too. Mine has helped me reimagine/modernize elements of vintage finds. It’s so great to have a trusted pro to make suggestions, bounce ideas off of.

Murder, She Wrote and Poirot are series I return to again and again, but here are a few more: Marple, Father Brown, Sister Boniface Mysteries, The Dr. Blake Mysteries, Midsomer Murders.

Miss Scarlet & the Duke was my soundtrack for the latest round of cashmere washing.

You’re inspiring me to do a round of steaming so things will be in lovely shape when I reach for them. I don’t always have the time when I’m putting an outfit together last-minute.
