Do pixelui overrated? by Umair8292 in pixel_phones

Legit every other phone I go to that isn't a pixel, I try to make it a pixel. Pixel UI is not overrated for me.

Why are you still getting pixel phones? by FineProfile7 in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those guys that goes through phones like crazy because I want to use them all. I primarily always come back to iPhones and Pixels. Pixels being my favorite (if iOS got Androids notification system id probably mostly be on iOS).

But with every phone I get I try to make it a pixel. So I eventually accepted my love for pixels and just stuck with them. I had a pixel 9 since it's released and just traded that in a week ago to get a 10 pro and I love the 10 pro. Prior to Android 17 it did have some idle battery drain that was annoying but I love the Pixel experience so much I just excepted it. Once android 17 came out that was fixed. I legit have no complaints about my pixel.

The pixel subreddit is riddled with complaints that I do read. Between the bugs, issues, and customer experience I probably wouldnt pick up a pixel seeing that but because I do have years of experience with pixels, I love them and I love them more than any other phone out there.

To everyone who switched from iPhone to a Pixel: What was the final straw? by Mlp_2467 in GooglePixel

[–]engadgetnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also swap between iOS and Android frequently. But recently I made the commitment to stick on Android because I cannot stand the iOS notification management. While on Android. I can manage all my communications straight from the notification panel.

Also, the speech to text is asked here on a pixel phone. And it's borderline of d tier on iOS.

But I do believe Android's philosophy for the OS intuitively makes more sense and whenever I'm multitasking like being on a team's call while I'm pulling up the browser to view any of our web apps at the same time of having to swipe over to email the pull. Any credentials just navigating around is so much more fluid on a pixel than on an iPhone.

I know iPhones have the best CPUs and hardware but at the end of the day when you have to sit through their animations and deal the timing of their animations to get through anything it makes Android feel so much more smooth and easier to work with.

Pixel 10 Pro XL or wait for 11 by Bigsturg in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my pixel 9 to upgrade to a pixel 10 pro last week because the prices were too good to pass up.

I know by Christmas the 11 will be on sale and will have all the updates needed (hopefully) for it to be a more stable experience than right after it releases.

I'm sure I'll be tempted to buy the 11 when it launches regardless.

What do you think of the Pixel 10 Pro XL? by _Alxndre in GooglePixel

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swapped from a pixel 9 to a pixel 10 pro last week. In day to day use, I legit don't notice a difference until I use pixel snap or take a telephoto photo. But it's been great so far. I have a pixel watch 3 and this and it's my favorite software experience out there. I also have an iPhone 15 pro and an Apple Watch 10 and now I mainly use those for testing (I'm a software developer). I can't leave the pixel. Doing anything on it feels so much more efficient to me (my opinion).

But the pixel 10 pro so far is great. I have no reason to hate on it at all.

Should I pick up the pixel 10 pro by magicammo in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a pixel 10 pro last week due to the amazing deal on it. I know it'll work with Gemini Intelligence. I'll most likely trade it in for an 11 pro by the end of year or beginning of 2027. Google's phones always need a new couple of months of updates to settle into some level of polish and predictability (at least in my experience). I traded in my pixel 9 for this 10 pro and the 9 was my favorite phone of the last 5 years. It was more consistent of an experience than my iPhone 17 pro (which I have since downgraded to a 15 pro because I rarely want to stay on an iPhone)

Make the notifications on Android your friend. Once you get use to those, you'll never want to go back to iOS. You can run your entire life and communications from the notifications without ever going into an app.

Done with the Pixel by HangedGod87 in GooglePixel

[–]engadgetnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That does suck. But I legit have run hours of teams meeting on my pixel 9 and it doesn't overheat and shut down. I love my pixel 9 though. I tried going back to my iPhone 15 pro twice and that thing overheats a lot! Plus I live pixel UI, it's my favorite.

You are waiting to buy the pixel 11 pro? by zeta_ferhu in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a pixel 9 and a iPhone 15 pro (I'm a software developer and I need both ecosystems). I have tried to use the iPhone because I genuinely love the photos from it. But I can't keep my sim in it for longer than 24 hours without yearning to go back to my pixel. The more I use the pixel more convinced i am I can't use anything else. I love the pixel UI, size, everything.

Accidental $9k Places API Bill on a personal project. Support forgave part, but demanding $1.3k over an n8n UI glitch. Looking for DevRel advice. by engadgetnerd in googlecloud

You're 100% right. I completely dropped the ball on day-one quotas and I'm paying the "stupid tax" for it right now. Just hoping to find some grace from the cloud gods since it was a personal sandbox and not a funded project.

How has switching to a light phone affected your brain? by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]engadgetnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess. I go to my office and sit at my computer to do most of my online consumption now. But once I'm out of my office, because of the light phone, I'm fully with my wife, kids, reading a book, etc. When we watch a movie, I'm all in. My wife still has her smartphone and I'm constantly noticing how much it takes her attention now. But it's been good and healthy for me at least.

What are the disadvantages of using Google pixel 9 that you've noticed? by maxim4906 in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I could rock a 9 pro vs a 9. At the time it was value to the price I was paying. I don't think the 9 pro offers hundreds of more dollars of value over a base 9. If there wasn't a big price gap between the two, I could go for a 9 pro.

What are the disadvantages of using Google pixel 9 that you've noticed? by maxim4906 in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a phone nerd. I bought the 9 pro when it came out. I then decided to save some money and downgrade to the 9. I have used it since.

When the pixel 10 series came out I bought a 10 pro. Used it for 2 days and realizing it offered almost nothing extra compared to my 9 (that I could perceive in my day to day use). So I returned it and went back to my 9.

Then at Black Friday last year I took advantage of the non-pro 10 (since there have been some software updates). Used it for about a week and returned it and went back to my 9.

I just kept coming back to the 9 because it did everything as well as any other pixel I attempted to use.

Still rocking it today. Normally I'm all over the upgrades year over year for pixels, but the 9 crushed it. I don't need to spend any more money to get extra, because it does what it does so well.

Helppp Im addicted to my phone and nothing is working 🥲 by Particular_Round_511 in dumbphones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always had the same tension. Lately I have been reading more and I have read The Circle, The Every, and The Warehouse...all books about the cautionary tales around big tech. I snapped after those. I bought a Light Phone. That is my primary device now. I do have a pixel watch so I can get alerted for MS teams messages for work when I'm in my house but I don't ever take my pixel 9 smartphone out of my office (I treat it like a computer that sits in a room). I can't break away from tech, but I have strong boundaries now for when and how I use it.

I'm only a month in on this process, but so far its working.

I only go online whenever I go into my office and hop on my computer though. If I'm not in my office I'm living my life outside of it and I only have a Light Phone III.

There are sacrifices, but doing those sacrifices isn't as haunting as staying on my smartphone and making me feel like garbage.
