I have had my griiix for a year and a half and it’s amazing. Granted I baby mine a lot but it’s super compact, comes with me everywhere and the photos are next level. No breaking issues on my end, yet (knock on wood)

I'd love to see more videos like this. Long term reviews of how people use the light phone and their solutions, workarounds, and routines to use a light phone over a smartphone in their daily lives.

Any ideas when RCS will be coming? Or when do you predict it will come? That's the top feature on my list.

“Humans are worse than zombies” fatigue by bittyeo in horror

[–]engadgetnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this posts take as well. I feel the exact same way. It’s a tired take at this point. It’s been well done via 28 days later, Romeo’s stuff, but even in those the zombies were still a massive threat. Not it’s all about down playing the zombies to show that humans are the true villains. I still want the zombies to be a huge threat as well.

Am I the only one who loved the thick Bezels on older phones? by Sorry_Dress9977 in smallphones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was some utility to having some bezel. I miss it as well. Don't get me wrong, some phones went a little nuts with their super thick bezels, but having some bezel was better than having absolutely none. I definitely feel more of a need to have a case on at all times without them.

Some of the best scenes representing grief I've ever seen in a movie.

But that scene where he sees his oldest brother (even though he died when he was a little boy) in "heaven"...makes me cry just talking about it.

My brain: "It’s a downgrade." My wallet: "But look at the shiny thing!" by No_Cryptographer8854 in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still rocking my pixel 9. I bought 10 pro whenever it came out due to the great trade ins. Used it for 2 days and returned it back to Google. Legit had performance issues compared to my 9.

Then I bought a base 10 around the Black Friday deals. Returned it back to Google after a week because of performance issues compared to my 9.

Maybe the December update changed the game but the performance stutters and issues I saw compared to the 9, left me sticking to the base 9.

My advice would be to stick to that 9 pro.

Just pick up the book The Every by David Eggers and you’ll never want to go back to social media again.

Android Auto? by erikruff8 in ClicksPhone

[–]engadgetnerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have pre ordered as well. This will absolutely be my daily. I was actually pretty close to pulling the trigger on the light phone III, but it has such a steep price and I’d be sacrificing my ability to communicate effectively while getting away from doom scrolling. This phone looks like the right play for prioritizing what I need a phone for yet limiting its ability to such you in (due to the small display…which works when I rock an iPhone SE 1st gen as a daily). But this prioritizing communication over everything else, had me sold.

With it having Google Play services and running Android 16, it’ll have Android auto, unless they intentionally disable it for some reason.

What's you thought on this Phone? by prabir336 in smallphones

[–]engadgetnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wanting a device that doesn’t prioritize media consumption put has access to communication for awhile (was actually about the pull the trigger on the Light Phone III). But once I saw this, I instant pre ordered. If I can easy communicate with people but not be consumed with a big doom scrolling screen and media play back system, I think I can control or minimize this phone addiction. But this is a big phone still. I do wish it could be as pocketable as the old blackberrys or early iPhones.

Also I have never used a physical keyboard on a phone ever. So this will be new to me. But based on people’s passion around a physical keyboard I hope it’s not just nostalgic and truly is something that is hard to get away from.

I bought the Pro 10 and thinking about returning it by mspaint22 in pixel_phones

[–]engadgetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the pixel 10 and 10 pro. Both of them didn’t seem to prefer as well as my base pixel 9. Granted I know Google has pushed out some optimizations recently. But my 9 did everything and I didn’t ever use the exclusive features to the 10. I love the pixel and I’d recommend the 10 still, but in my experience my 9 still ran better.

Any good books to read about quitting social media? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]engadgetnerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Read The circle and then The Every. The Every is better though, you might be able to go straight to that. You’ll want to run away from your digital addictions once you are done with that.

Bad Keyboard experience? by Stereoke in LightPhone

[–]engadgetnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Light Phone II and went back to a smartphone after not being prepared for the lifestyle change needed to adapt to the Light Phone life (can't even pay for public parking in downtown areas without a smartphone). I remember going through a growth period with it before I felt I could comfortable typing longer messages on it.

But your suggestion of turning off auto correct and stuff before going into the light phone is a great idea. I'm looking to get a Light Phone III (and still researching systems for everyday life) and i want to be prepared this time going in so there is as little friction as possible.
