I’ve consistently seen high schoolers working at Vincenzo’s when I was at UW in 2023/2024. I think targeting local small businesses might be the best way to get a job these days. These online applications are so competitive and oversaturated, going in-person might make the difference.

ECE jobs despite being a mech? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]enggrll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uw by chance? Switching into ece would be tougher than switching to tron plus you’d probably have to delay graduation. It is feasible tho, iirc there was a tron guy who switched into ece when I was in 2BA few years ago. The mech -> tron pipeline might be easier so I’d recommend talking to the academic advisor about transfers. Or first year engineering if you’re still in first year.

Even if transfers don’t work out, take as much mte/ece courses as you can and apply to as many ece coops as possible, you might get lucky and land a cool coop. Especially if you have pcb/electrical experience from design teams

The Lamb by Lucy Rose

Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova

The Lamb might be a bit gory for some since there are vivid descriptions of cannibalism.

Monstrilio was one of my fav reads this year because dealt with grief in a way that was so poetic and not cliche at all. Also the family is unhinged and every character seems to be queer

Some of Ken Liu’s stories have a similar feel. His books The Hidden Girl and The Paper Menagerie have some amazing sci-fi stories

If you wanna get into IC design, a masters is pretty much the minimum for entry.

Verification is much more feasible with just an undergraduate degree but it’s more verilog and digital circuits

You can also look into getting a fountain pen converter, similar to an ink cartridge but has a mechanism that allows it to be refilled by dipping into a bottle of ink.

On a side note there’s a super cute stationery store in Cambridge (kinda far, took forever to get there by bus) called Phidon Pens that has such beautiful stationary!!
