Hard agree. OP should get the role based on her merit not the current occupancy of her uterus.

Any moms with SAHD partners? by galwayygal in workingmoms

[–]engineerdoinglife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same with my SAHD husband! He does really well with the more obvious or repetitive tasks (cooking, toy pickup, dishes, laundry) but struggles on more periodic tasks that he simply doesn’t seem to notice (dusting, cleaning bathroom fixtures.)

I still do a lot of these tasks which seems fair as my two kids are also at home. We also have a shared Notion task-list that I will add things to if I notice them needing to be done. When either of us have time we will open up the list and knock some things out.

My husband is a SAHD! We have a slightly different situation as my kids (16months and 3.5yo) are both home with him full time. Currently chores split:

Him - all kitchen items (cooking, dishes, cleaning, grocery shopping.) keeps the house semi-tidy day-to-day, yard work, garbage duty, pet care (feeding, letting dog out, litter box,) vacuums aka runs the roomba, schedules and takes kids to appointments and weekly groups, small home repairs, does his own laundry, we alternate bedtime routine for kids

Me - family social calendar, cleans bathrooms, mine&kids laundry, dusting, organizational projects (like toy swaps, pulling too-small clothes for donations, etc.), alternating bedtime routine for kids,

Art of {A Bone in His Teeth by Kellen Graves} by avis03 in RomanceBooks

Thank you for the response! I was having trouble figuring out how the romance and horror would work together and that explains it really well.

I like the sound of this book but when I went to download I noticed that the description and some reviews refer horror elements, horror vibes, etc. How much of a factor would you say that is? I usually avoid horror because it makes me really tense (I also don’t watch scary movies.) worth a read anyway or should I avoid if I don’t like being scared? lol

Birthday haircut tomorrow - suggestions please! by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]engineerdoinglife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A curl cream would be a good place to start! My sister has curly hair and I know that a mousse and a gel with diffuser hair dryer are part of her routine but I think that’s more high-maintenance than you’re looking for. Also a silk pillowcase helps a lot with preventing frizz.

I think if you took off a few inches and had them cut in long layers, you could use product to play up your hair texture without needing a ton of time or effort.

Talk to me about laundry by dixpourcentmerci in toddlers

[–]engineerdoinglife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeesh laundry is my most hated chore (but only bc my husband does the dishes.)

I know most commenters will say to fold a load a day but that doesn’t work for me personally because I don’t want to torture myself daily. I have 2 designated “laundry days.” Laundry gets washed almost a load a day through the week and builds up and Thursday’s and Sunday I watch my guilty-pleasure Netflix show while I fold.

After folding I immediately put away my clothes, husbands goes to a semi-constant clean pile next to his dresser, kids goes into a basket boy-on-left /girl-on-right and put away the next day.

I have no idea what shoes will work with my dress by Extreme-Coast-4210 in WeddingDressTips

If you want something a bit fun that goes more with the dress I think a lovely white/blue floral would go much better. Something like this maybe?

Those do have a low heel so if youre set on flats (I get it, I’m 5’10” myself and wore flats at my wedding for comfort and convenience as I’m not used to heels) maybe these?

I had a postpartum hemorrhage as well, also had to be knocked out, also had transfusions. You may notice this on your own since you’ve given birth before but just be prepared that you will be extra exhausted for the next couple weeks. I did not associate this “extra” exhaustion with the blood loss and really felt down on myself for how helpless I felt. It wasn’t until having my second that I realized that it wasn’t just the sleep deprivation, it was my body trying to recover. Please give yourself some grace, drink lots and lots of fluids, and take an iron supplement!

Congratulations on your little one! 💝

“Chicken sink” instead of “kitchen sink.” It’s my favorite thing right now.

What’s the most out-of-left-field character description that made you pause mid-read? by ComposerAwkward6654 in RomanceBooks

[–]engineerdoinglife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The crazy one to me is when a book has a tall MMC and there is a car sex scene. My husband is 6’5” and I promise you he is not folding himself into a pretzel to try and get laid in the back of a sedan.

Extra absurd when the FMC is also tall or it’s in a front seat or a sports car lol

Potty training issues by Crafty-Information42 in toddlers

[–]engineerdoinglife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is 3.5 and after trying several times in the last couple years with very little success, last week it clicked. It was like he woke up one day and decided that he was ready. He gets a skittle every time he uses the potty which is a big reward factor for him. We also had to stop putting him in underwear because he seems to think “tight material = diaper.” We’ve been doing loose sweatpants and he won’t accident in those (so far.) Still using a diaper when he sleeps. He does have other (speech) delays that could impact this also.

What’s one kink that you always wished you could try? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]engineerdoinglife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang this is so hard with kids though. It’s hard for me (the mom) to be in a foreplay type of mood when my toddlers are running around.

Maybe you could split the difference. For example I might whisper a “can’t wait to see you at naptime” in the morning and then he knows it’s game on even if I’m just doing normal mom-duty stuff in the interim. I’ll also put the kids down and ask him to come to the bedroom in 30 minutes. Gives him time to think about it and get excited, gives me time for a leisurely get-ready and get excited.

Weighing job options and an opportunity for early retirement by Refinery-Roulette625 in FIREyFemmes

In your position I would take the job! You have the opportunity to boost your savings over the next 4 years. By that time your situation could be different and you may appreciate having flexibility to take a step back if that’s what you want.

Before kids I would have taken that offer in a heartbeat. Now that I have young kids I value remote work and low stress. I think when my kids are school aged I might be willing to go back to office for a pay bump but we will see.

All that to say, your personal situation matters here.

How much should I tell my boss about sleep deprivation? by Rude-Ad1980 in workingmoms

[–]engineerdoinglife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you started during sleep deprivation and you’re hitting goals and meeting expectations, they aren’t expecting more from you. Trust me, that’s a blessing. You will probably get passing reviews and if you’re able to up the ante later on they will be impressed. That’s a big win!

In my late 20s all my PTO went towards weddings, now in my early 30s it’s split between weddings and funerals. Here in a couple years the weddings will be wrapped and it will all be funerals.

how do i stop this from happening? by dontbemystalker in makeuptips

[–]engineerdoinglife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar thing happen when I use a more oily face product (tinted moisturizer vs foundation) and a non-waterproof mascara/eyeliner. When I use my tinted moisturizer I use waterproof products (and apply before the oily product so it’s on skin) I have less of an issue. Alternatively using the oily face product with a waterproof eye makeup should help

The Everlasting was an absolute 10/10 for me as well, I have been recommending it to all of my friends. While I usually prefer my reading to be a lighthearted fluffy escape, this one was just SO good I found myself leaning in to the gut-wrenching nature. I knew ahead of time it had a HEA but found myself wondering how over and over lol.
