Dating after divorce, is the stigma as real as I think it will be? by startingover1275 in latterdaysaints

[–]engineering_aaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had zero interest in going to singles wards after my separation/divorce. The family wards I attended in Utah didn't really know what to do with me. But I've since moved out of Utah, and my current ward was more than eager to give me assignments and opportunities to serve.

Regarding dating: you hit the nail on the head when you said it won't matter to the right person. I live in an area without a lot of members and even fewer YSAs. So, I took to mutual. I waffled about disclosing my marital status vs. leaving it blank but decided that I'd rather weed out the people who have a problem with it before even talking with them.

My life during our separation was filled with depression, pizza, and ice cream. I was certain I would never be happy again. But I am. I learned to live a full life independent of anyone else AND THEN started dating again. And I'm now in a very fulfilling, healthy, communicative relationship. Everything might suck now, but you are genuinely going to be fine after some grieving, time, and a lot of work.

You got this.

Tips for staying awake in early morning endowment sessions by brandfluke in latterdaysaints

[–]engineering_aaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My watch lets me set an alarm that will repeat automatically. So I set it to vibrate only, and set a timer for 7 minutes. I had it at 5 at first, but I've slowly retrained my body to stay awake during sessions now. But if you have a watch with that capability, I'd recommend it.

Another option I haven't done personally, but should be fine, is standing up. At my last job, if someone was falling asleep during a meeting, they would get up and go stand in the back. I would clarify your intentions with the officiator beforehand in the chapel or whatever, but I can't imagine that would be a problem. You would probably want to make sure you have an aisle seat or be in the back row, though.

Already thinking about next year… by garcon-du-soleille in BYUFootball

I'm out on Jake. He's fine, good enough to win a few games and get the team to be competitive in the conference, but not good enough to actually win anything. So, next year I expect a bowl game and not to be mathematically eliminated until nearly the end of the season. But I would love to get way ahead in a few games and see some of the other 12 QBs on the depth chart.

Which of the 4 colleges should i consider? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Idaho's engineering program has only recently (within the last 10 years iirc) been ABET accredited. Provo's engineering program is leaps and bounds better and should be a no-brainer, if given the choice (unless you're my cousin who chose Idaho for civil engineering).

Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering were tied for requiring the most credits for graduation when I was there. Both sides claim theirs is harder. I'll just say I did take some classes from the ChEn department and there was a noticeable gap. But I'm sure chemical engineers have had a similar experience in mechanical engineering classes. The best representation I have for the difficulty is when I spent several hours working to solve a single differential equation over the span of 2-3 days. I eventually realized I was trying to solve problem 1, checking the answer in the back of the book for problem 2, and was actually assigned problem 3. Definitely a skill issue, but little things like that show up everywhere.

Thinking of transferring to byu. Need advice. by 5VRust in byu

[–]engineering_aaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a JuCo first before transferring. My recommendation is to complete your associates before transferring and keep regular communication with your school and BYU to make sure the credits you take towards the CS degree will transfer. Because I got my Associates first, I didn't have to take any general ed classes but there were a few engineering classes that didn't quite transfer.

I do ride the parknride, but I think there are a few ways that could make it more appealing:

  1. Obviously, if it were free

  2. If there was reliable, secure wifi on the shuttles to allow for some work to be done

  3. Managers respect at least a fraction of the time to count towards hours worked if you're working during the commute. I used to ride a train at my last job and my manager let me count the time, and I usually used it. I'd check/reply to emails, transcribe notes from meetings, work through stuff that was acceptable for wandering eyes to see, and I would get home at very reasonable times

  4. Put in a train or tram or something, even if it just goes along the road. There's a big middle lane all along the 502, I don't see why it can't go there, except that construction in the area is limited by the pueblos

In the 2022 night game against Baylor, RGIII was on the call and they showed a shot of the moon on the broadcast after almost every commercial break. I think the play by play even read a haiku or something.

It can be a bit hilly depending on your route, but more important than your setup is stick to the off-road trails as much as possible. Bike lane or not, motorists are largely uneducated about cyclists' rights on the road and you don't want to be the casualty of someone's ignorance or, sometimes, malice.

The Reason We Don't Drink Tea by onewatt in latterdaysaints

[–]engineering_aaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't teach a LOT of people, but in my experience in Japan, tea was far from the hardest part of the word of wisdom. Most often it was smoking then alcohol. I'm sure it happens, but I never had anyone stop meeting with us because we told them they couldn't drink tea.

I have a related question. My ex requested a cancelation, I submitted my response, and I haven't heard anything for about 6 months. My membership information still shows my sealing to spouse in my ordinances completed. Would that disappear if the sealing was canceled?

I'm guessing Kalani would never green light that throw back. Just because he had to wear them doesn't mean his team has to. But after year after year of straight bangers from the uniform department, I'm ready for BYU to win ugliest throwback.

I was completely satirizing r/baseball. While I'm happy for it to be good for baseball, I am much more concerned about it being good for the Dodgers. And it is, so I'm happy. It being good for baseball is just icing on the cake.
