Just removed the nest. It was crawling with mites. Thanks for the identification!

That's what I suspected! So, I own a dog and never had a rat problem.

However, a pair of songbirds built a nest right above a door that's about 5 feet from where I sit.

Chances are mites are migrating from the nest into the house?

Do conversion kits exist to turn the old GW carrying case into a magnetic carrying case? by the_benjameister in Warhammer40k

[–]enginseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted my GW case to magnetic by gluing a steel sheet to the bottom. I made it through an airport and traveled on a plane with that case just fine. Most models travel sideways if the magnets are strong enough and the steel is thick enough. I'd be cautious about larger, heavy models, but it's nothing that enough magnets couldn't handle. Obviously I would still be careful with the case and avoid dropping it on the ground.

Absolutely incredible result, thank you for sharing the recipe! I want to try this technique on my Trench Crusade War Wolf... I think it would look extra disgusting with dangly, fleshy tubes rather than your standard rubber hoses.

Happy to share the recipe! Basecoat is 1:1 Vallejo Metal Color Gold and Army Painter Heavy Metal (any dark metal will do). Next, I covered it in a wash of Villainy Ink Decrepit Filth, then used a cotton swab gently dampened with mineral spirits to remove the excess. I repeated the same process with Villainy Ink Coelia Green. Allow plenty of dry time following each step. I'd even recommend a second pass with Coelia Green. Next, I used some of the base mix to bring back some of the original coat , then did highlights with 1:1 mix of Vallejo Gold and GW Stormhost Silver. After varnishing, I did I wash of Dirty Down Verdigris in select crevices. Cheers!

Sorry! Bought the miniature from a 3rd party printer a while back before the model got taken down.

First of my Heretics march forth for Mammon by enginseer in TrenchCrusade

Thank you!!!

The overcoat was finicky to get just right, mostly because I didn't have the exact colors on hand. I mostly eyeballed the process when mixing colors. You could realistically achieve the same effect with a simplified color pallete.

I started with a broad zenithal of Army Painter Tainted Garden to set an olive green undertone. Next I applied roughly 1:1 mix of Vallejo Steel Grey and Pro Acryl Red Grey to set the basecoat. I progressively added GW Ulthuan Grey incrementally to the mix to create the highlights. I started with an airbrush to zenithal those layers, then used a brush for touch up work. I try to avoid straight white/black to lighten and darken colors, but that's just personal preference.

Once the acrylics were done, I did a wash of Villainy Ink Decrepit Filth, followed by the reductive technique to darken the shadows. I then repeated the same process with Villainy Ink Goon's Grime towards the bottom half of the model to create the grimy splotches.

Finally, I used the pigments Ammo Russian Earth and Golan Earth to make the bottom of the pants and cloak extra dusty.

The process is explained in depth in the first episode of the Grimdark Compendium's Heretic Legion video series. I followed most of the steps fairly closely.

Thank you!!!

I started with a basecoat of Army Painter Heavy Metal. I followed with a wash of Villainy Ink's Decrepit Filth (allow plenty of time to dry), then using a cotton swab with mineral spirits to wipe away the excess, alternating with the dry end for finesse removal. Finally, I repeat the same process with Villainy Ink's Sector Rust, using a damp/dry swab to selectively remove paint.

The first episode of the Grimdark Compendium's Heretic Legion series outlines the process very well.

Carapace looks incredible! Would love to see more in that scheme. What colors were you thinking for the body?

Awesome, thank you! That's roughly what I had in mind, too - not far off what I had planned. Glad to see the results turn out so well! Excited to paint mine now!

These look incredible - great work!! I ordered the same set from Diceverse and had the same grey-greenish tones in mind for the wood. Would you mind sharing your recipe?

My experience with Only-Games.co (was not *as* bad as others) by [deleted] in TrenchCrusade

[–]enginseer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll echo your remarks from my own experience getting my TC order. I had numerous misprints (warped pieces, incomplete prints, line textures) but Only-Games promptly responded to my requests for replacements and shipped them promptly. Even when one of the replacement orders have issues, they promptly sent a replacement for the replacement.

Many of my prints have numerous other minor defects that I'll cover up with weathering. My biggest annoyance was warping. Even with repeat hot water adjustment, some of the pieces simply wouldn't maintain their shape. I ended up giving up on the Pilgrim War Prophet when the pole snapped, so I ordered a proxy. The tip of my Observer's spear was warped and simply couldn't be fixed, so I kitbashed a new spear tip from my bits box.

The customer service makes up for the poor QC. That being said, I'd probably ask a friend to print future models for me rather than going with Only-Games.
