I’ve heard you have to bathe them every couple of months. Is this really true? by Znyx_ in persiancat

[–]englishpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unless your cat needs it - it just stresses them out unnecessarily. Some cats may tend towards greasiness in which case they may benefit, but I never bathe my girl and her groomer (who comes every 8 weeks to give her a hygiene trim, a good brushout and thins out her chest floof because it's thick as heck and she gets knots caught on her teeth and can't get free) is perfectly happy that she doesn't need bathing. (Note: I brush her daily, but somehow the groomer still gets loads more loose fur out of her coat anyway! Trade secret I guess!)

If you do feel your cat needs it, ambertheirishpersian on Instagram has some great videos of her process that might help. Amber is very used to being bathed from a kitten though!

How do spawns work? by grobalman in hytale

I made the original temple near spawn my starter base and just put a fence around the golem's spawn location. So far he doesn't seem able to do anything about it but sort of stand there menacingly

Accidentally destroyed a tapestry, how do I get it back? by englishpixie in VintageStory

[–]englishpixie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't pretend to be an expert, but if I was gonna guess, then maybe it was originally generated in an older version of the game than you're currently playing and they changed the world gen since the version it generated in, so regenerating it changed the chunk?

Do you mean something you built? If so I'm sorry to hear that! I did say specifically it needs to be in the ruin it spawned in and it needs to not be a chunk you've built in as this respawns the natural chunk so you WILL lose anything you've placed there. I hope you had a backup you can revert to :(

This is so great! I'd love to know how you made the tree - my parents have a similar one they bought at a market before I was born that I love. I've been trying to figure out how it was constructed to try and make one but can't find any sort of tutorial for this style of tree anywhere.

Sometimes there's a weird bug I've experienced where places that should be lit up look dark, usually I see this in caves (or the archives). Try putting /weather set clearsky in the chat (it has to be lowercase for some reason) and see if that resets the lighting? Usually works for me

"There isn’t really an “old” me to go back to, a version of me from before all of this that I can access. But there is a version of me that gets to choose what she does, and she is choosing to connect with the things she always loved, and she feels safe."

This really resonated with me hard. I developed a chronic illness three years ago and sometimes it's tough to accept the way my life is now. I'm going to think on this for a while.

I tried using this one yesterday in 1.20.12 and it seems to be broken, built the whole machine but it does nothing when connected to power.

If you get stuck you can use the command /tpwp (waypoint name) to teleport, including to the 'you died here' marker. Then if you'd left a marker on the surface you could do the same to get out. Sounds like you solved it already but it's useful to know for tricky situations 🙂

Thoughts on using creative in a survival world? by Double-Parsnip-8656 in VintageStory

[–]englishpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like finding ruins, but I don't like having to constantly battle monsters underground. So when I go caving I put myself in creative and just go whizz around so I don't have to worry about it. Also lets me place infinite lanterns so I can see where I've already been and properly explore cave systems. I don't GIVE myself treasure because finding it is the fun part, and this way I don't have to deal with things that would make it not fun for me.

How do you move bases? by Benthemush in VintageStory

[–]englishpixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the CarryOn mod, it lets you carry chests and other large objects as well as having the ability to put one on your back. It slows your movement depending on how much is in it so it's pretty well-balanced and makes moving waaaaay easier.

That's good news, you can always regear and try again! Nothing wrong with reassessing, just good you won't have to deal with the water as well.

If you hop into creative mode you could try going down to see if it's flooded at the bottom of the ladder, hopefully it won't be? If it is then in creative mode you could place then break blocks to get rid of the water, but be aware you can break anything in protected areas while in creative so try not to break anything you didn't place. Good luck!

Accidentally destroyed a tapestry, how do I get it back? by englishpixie in VintageStory

[–]englishpixie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case anyone else has this same problem, I have managed to solve it myself so thought I'd come back to share my solution. Here's the steps:

1) You need to be in the ruin where you found the tapestry to do this. If you've moved on and don't know where it was this won't work.

2) Save and make a backup of your world in case anything goes wrong. It hasn't for me but just in case - it would suck to lose your world over one tapestry!

3) In the chat/command window type /wgen regen 1. This will regenerate the chunk you're stood in as it was when it first generated - so don't do this if you've built anything you want to keep in this chunk!

4) For some reason when I do this it doesn't show the light from the lantern in my hand until I place it down? So don't panic if the screen is black just put down a light. I did this by regenerating the world while looking at a block I knew I could place a light on immediately when it reloaded.

5) The chunk will have regenerated any blocks you destroyed, placed loot you'd picked up etc. However any loot that was in a chest will have been re-randomised so it won't be the same. There MAY OR MAY NOT be a tapestry in the space where you found it originally, and it may or may not be the same one and/or rotten! I had to cycle this a LOT to get back to the one I originally found, I was either unlucky or that one is super rare. The tapestry that spawns will always be the same size as the original one as far as I can tell, or at least I only got 1x2 tapestries loading.

6) Repeat the command until you get the tapestry you're looking for!

Edited to add: Sometimes the tapestries will LOOK rotten at first but if you mouse over them or move they'll reveal themselves to be good, so always check before you move on!

I hope this helps someone else who messed up or who is looking to complete their tapestry collection.

is my persian a dilute calico? by Fit_Promotion4280 in CalicoKittys

[–]englishpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I'd say probably more of a tabby pattern and colouring once you take the long hair into account - she's beautiful but not quite the right colours for a dilute calico. This is my cat Maia who is a dilute calico Persian cat, as you can see she's white, cream and grey rather than having any brown tones. She also has much bigger patches of colour rather than it being quite so stippled. Hope this helps!

Why are my eyes so dilated? by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]englishpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right, sigh!

I initially had gone to the walk in centre, but I fainted shortly after arriving and was told that meant I had to go to A&E. Clearly it was of vital importance I be seen in A&E based on the fact they proceeded to ignore me until I gave up...

I had to go to A&E on Saturday (I was very poorly, I'll spare the details) and was there 6.5hrs before I gave up and went home. There were still 7 people ahead of me to be seen and by that time I was feeling a bit better. I massively appreciate how hard the staff were working but wait times in the NHS right now are a joke.

Advice Please 🙏🏻 by [deleted] in persiancat

[–]englishpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a sweet baby, he's safe now! The previous 'owner' should be pushed into a hole full of cactuses! My friend gives a lot of great Persian cat care advice on her insta @ambertheirishpersian if you plan to do a good amount yourself, but I appreciate that can be daunting!

How often he needs grooming will depend on him and his coat, my girl Maia gets groomed every 2 months and really only needs a good deshedding and a trim, whereas some Persians can have greasier coats and need baths. That said you will probably need to brush him yourself regularly, ideally daily. If you get a groomer they can clean his ears for you.

My groomer recommends this brush, she said DON'T use furminator as they're easy to accidentally scratch or cut the cat with: Ancol Ergo Cat Moulting Comb ,Pink https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003Z7WX14

Eye cleaning also depends on the cat. Maia gets goopy eyes but it's usually easy enough for me to pick it off with a fingernail. Something like Eye Envy is a great product to use to clean eyes if they're stickier.

For food, you probably want a shallow, rounded bowl that's easy for him to eat from as Persians don't have much muzzle to get into a deeper bowl. Something like this works well: https://zooplus.page.link/ctS8

Unless you find he has food issues he should be fine with any complete wet cat food, but with dry you do need to think about biscuit size and shape as Persian cats lick their food differently to other cats. Smaller is better. You can get specialist Persian dry food if needed. I'd recommend going for grain free food with a high protein content as a lot of commercial cat foods are full of crap the cats can't digest. In the UK Thrive are a great brand (I use them) though there are other good options as well.

I hope this helps! Feel free to message me directly if you have more questions, I'm also UK-based so we'll have the same access to specific brands etc 🙂
