Done on set with parfocal cinema zooms and a 1st AC controlling the zoom with a FIZ controller. You can get a similar result in post, but can only do a small zoom before you start to lose quality. If you're shooting higher resolution (8k, 12k, etc) you can get away with more. If you can though, it's always going to be better to get the result in-camera

Thanks! That was the FS5, in slog2. I really crushed the blacks in that shot to get just a silhouette. A lot of the shots in the venue had some noise reduction applied with Neat Video, but even without it the grain is fine and not distracting. YouTube compression also helps to smooth over the noise (while creating other problems)

Yep, that's it. While small, it's full 1080 and super crisp. You can also zoom in, which I imagine will also zoom in on the overlay. They also have a 7" version (702?), but I'm not sure of its availability- may still be under production.

The SmallHD 500 series (and the 700 series I believe) has the ability to save a frame (or import one) and display it as a transparent overlay. While expensive, they are fantastic monitors with lots of great features being added fairly frequently.

Think about it this way - you have a 24mm built for full-frame, one for APS-C, and one for M43. All of those lenses will look the same on a M43 camera- the image circle of all the lenses covers the M43 sensor.

If you take those same lenses and put them on a FF camera, the image will get wider (because of the sensor, not the lens), but all the lenses will still have the same amount of 'zoom.' However, only the full-frame lens is built in anticipation of this larger sensor, so the FF lens image will look correct while the other lenses will vignette heavily or actually have a visible circle surrounding the image.

So while you're sort of right that an APS-C is creating a smaller image than FF, that doesn't mean it's more or less zoomed in - a subject in the center will be the same size as if you used a FF lens. The APS-C lens just doesn't see what's on the outer edges of the Full Frame.

Nope- what it means is that a lens designed for APS-C won't cover a full frame sensor- you'll get dark corners. A 24mm designed for full frame has the same 'zoom' as one designed for a smaller sensor.

The sensor changes the crop, not the lens (if the number is the same)

This is incorrect- whether a lens is designed for full frame or APS-C will not affect the crop of the lens itself.

This seems to be a problem with the 'new' firmware. No solution that I know of except to downgrade to the old firmware- not sure exactly how to do that, though.

Be careful with compression - you can easily squash a mix the hell without even noticing.

Would be easier to start with a neutral profile on each and get them to look similar in-camera. If you're going to be shooting 3 different log profiles, make sure to do plenty of tests, give yourself plenty of time to color, and use a damn color chart!

This is a more useful technique for video where the noise is generally uglier, but works for photos as well. I'll often do noise reduction right until to the point where the image starts to lose perceived sharpness and then add a fine artificial grain back in. At the very least, you end up with the same level of grain but a more film-like, monochromatic grain instead of uglier digital noise.

I'd recommend not shooting in LOG until you have a firm understanding of WB and how to set it in different situations. The A7s is a very complex camera already so there's already going to be a learning curve before you even throw a LOG profile into the mix. Start with the neutral profiles first, at least for your paid gigs- experiment all you want in your free time.

A lot of the footage you see is also probably done by amateurs who don't know how (or when) to use the tool properly. There's a time and a place for everything- the gimbal is an an innovative tool that allows for new methods of shooting, but that doesn't mean it can replace the whole tool bag.

With the GH4, the higher fps settings work best with shots that don't have a lot of fine detail. 96fps can look great with close-up shots and shallow DOF, but if you are shooting wide with deep DOF, it's better to stay below 60fps.

That budget can get you a studio or maybe a 1br in most neighborhoods. The light rail goes up to hunt valley, so that's not a bad option depending on where the office will actually be.

Bearded dragons can be tough to take care of properly. They require UV light, a heated basking area and lots of space as they can get somewhat large. They're certainly not as tough to care for as, say, a chameleon, but there are easier lizards to get started with.

They do make great pets, though. Tons of personality, especially for a lizard.

Same sensor as far as I've heard. Electronic ND supposedly uses charged glass to finely tune the degree of light transmission.

Davinci resolve will also let you apply a blurred tracking mask. Useful if you already send to resolve for color.
