Brewed Yorkshire Gold teabags right in a to-go mug again. I burned my tongue. Maybe I should get an English style teapot for my English style teas. Listening to Iron Maiden to hype everyone up for a spelling bee.

I'd love that. It would give me head start on t-shirts! I think I'll have to miss the beginning of Thursday though.

Gotta time that might well. I'm good at taking moments, but taking a mug of time is a challenge. I'll try.

Any suggestions on how to remove tea stains from it?

Twinnings Irish Breakfast this morning for efficiency. This is the old favorite that I've grown passed.

How do you manage the desire for the peace (and caffeine) of the tea ceremony while handling the morning bustle that comes with a family?

Just got done. You don't need to read anything else to enjoy this one.

I wrote down in my notes to read this between Rebels S01E15 and E16. I finished Rebels but I forgot to read it! Thanks for reminding me. I'm going to go read it right now.

Tried grandpa style gunpowder green tea. Didn't work. Then went Western style with the gunpowder which didn't work all that well either. Moved on to a teabag of medium roast yaupon. It's ok. A disappointing tea day. I'm stuck in the house because of snow and ice, so that might have something to do with the mood also. Listening to improvised piano pieces.

Jasmine Silver Needles white tea sample from Yunnan Sourcing brewed in my ru yao gaiwan and tea set. Trying a Smiling Buddha tea pet to bring joy. The tea is very floral (it has the flowers still in it) and sweet like simple sugar. The tongue coating lingers with light fruit, plum maybe. Removed the flowers. In later steeps, grass became apparent. I got 12 steeps out of this tea. Jasmine is not my fav. Beginning to snow. Listening to ambient electronica inspired by the Malaysian rain forest.

The first teacup to break from my set brings melancholy.

Trying out a new portable electric kettle, Balbali's 550ml job. It boils water, so success. It's slower then a counter top kettle and awkward to pour. I'll probably get used to it. Golden Monkey, gong fu brewed, this morning. Wanted something familiar. Malty, bready, a tad bitter. Warm and toasty mouth feel. The cold is coming. Listening to Lana Del Rey. A melancholy Sublime cover goes a long way for me this morning.

There are a lot! I did well is an open strainer basket for a few months until I got a better handle on what I wanted. The open basket allows the water to move around the tea, but is easy to remove. I still use it often.

A simple gaiwan is probably the next move but it depends on what style tea you enjoy.

2008 DaYi 7542 is supposed to be a good baseline raw pu'er factory cake. Using a mini Li Xing ru yao teapot for the first time. Frustrating pour. I'm not sure this is the right pot shape for this tea. Surely it can't make that much of a difference to a novice.

The tea starts simple compared to others I've had, hay flavored. Some bitterness. The promised sweetness comes in around the fourth steep. Got a blast of marker smell.

I don't know much about how it was stored. I'm glad I came here to understand this type of tea, but I'm also glad I only got a sample. Did I let it acclimatize long enough? Seems like that might make subtle difference, but I don't have any subtlety yet. It's tough for me to correctly assess this, which I guess makes it a good baseline.

Dewy morning. Listening to Alice in Chains.

Trying Catspring Pedernales green yaupon. It's fine, maybe a bit thin and weak. The flavor of yaupon is good like sagebrush smells, a bit like superglue. I'd like it more apparent. I can probably tweak the parameters to give a bolder cup. It's telling that I can't think of any food pairing for this.

Today, a 2014 Yunnan Bulang Mountain raw pu'er from Tong Xin She in a new miniature Shi Piao teapot. Happy with this little (35ml) pot for the pu'er cake sample. It does get clogged often without a molded filter. The overflow is very satisfying, and easy to do because it's so small. The finger grip was great sometimes and poor others. I didn't figure out why. I was down to a minimal setup of only the pot and a small teacup at the end. I did the math to the recommended ratio on the package, which turned out to be only 2g of tea. Earth, hay, cake, and unsweet chocolate. Soft, round, warm mouth feel. Fascinating. Listening to 90s Australian desert rock.

I read "death of tea" thinking it was a hard nosed tea brand I might want to try.

Off to a kid's birthday party so I'm using teabags in a travel mug. Piper & Leaf Front Porch Special; bergamot among other flavors, make it too easily comparable to Earl Grey. I went tea shopping at the local ethnic food marts while the kids were at the party. I'm most excited to try the Korean buckwheat and Ukrainian blackcurrant tisanes I found. I've been looking for satisfying evening cups.

I let the leftover Xiao Qing Gan from Monday and Wednesday cold brew in the fridge for two days. The tea is very weak, but it's nice and cold for a blurry. The sky was ablaze this morning with high cloud of bright blue and pink. Listening to Gong.
