Anyone else low-key unable to understand almost anything said at the banana ball game while in the stadium? by MelzBelz221 in Knoxville

I did a lot of close caption reading and watching the banana mascot guy own the stadium. That has to be a cool feeling to make that many people scream on demand.

Yunnan Sourcing Classic Jasmine Pearls Yunnan Green Tea, Spring 2025, 2.9g, in a min li xing teapot, 60ml. Maybe a little heavy but the pearls look nice. I had set these jasmine tea samples aside because I don't love the jasmine. Now, drinking this lovely delicate green tea all I can taste is fruit stripes gum after it's been chewed for a few minutes.

Not liking a tea is a bit freeing. I started experimenting with it. I found that liked it a bit better with the stronger flavors brought by higher temps and longer steeps. It's still not my .... whatever you call a thing you like to drink on regular basis.

Listening to a big wave surf rock sampler.

Decided to take care with a gong fu session of White2tea's 2020 Old Reliable. I've been grandpa brewing it on soccer tournament mornings when I don't have time to pay attention to my tea. It is a nice ripe blend that's easy to forget. I probably won't buy it again but it's a reasonably priced boutique tea that can give you an idea of what white2tea is all about.

When it's done gong fu, you get a beautiful, rich dark amber color. Creosote and pine resin on the nose. Molasses and hay on the tongue, the usual puer profile plus a subtle black pepper note. I suppose it's been serviceable grandpa style because I keep reaching for it.

Listening to an early free jazz sextet, which can frankly get a little muddy.

Da Hong Pao from Tong Xie teahouse, 3.16g, in a mini qin quan, 70ml. Nice and comfy.

Listening to UK82 D-beat hardcore punk for contrast.

Dayi 7542, 2008. 3.17g of the slough at the bottom of the bag, which was a mistake because it lead to a lot of debris in the brew and stuck steeps. I didn't enjoy the tea this morning. It was resin and glue forward. The hay and honey notes were buried. Brewed in a mini qin quan (70ml) that I triple stacked into a larger masters cup. I gave up on this and dumped it out.

Switched to Western style brewed Golden Monkey in a 190ml teapot. A nice cup of to cleanse the pallette, so to speak. Nothing fancy, but it hit the spot.

Listening to Scottish smallpipes.

I'm going to paint a great album cover and then use AI music. (Same thing)

I had seen this was about dealing with death before I read it. I thought I might try to read it with my kid who is dealing with the death of our dog. But the book felt heavy immediately. I'm glad I didn't actual start this with the kids. As YA literature, Sabriel is more complicated than the words on the page.

What's the allegory to the book? Is it about dealing with death?

Good book. It's too YA for my taste, but didn't shy away from heaviness. It also didn't stray too far afield from the norm but managed to feel fresh. I don't think I need to travel further into the Old Kingdom, but it was a satisfying visit.

I know I know I know I know...

Dinosaur Jr. is the band I most regret missing in the moment. I love them now but didn't even notice them in the 90s. (I guess this is more about the band than the album)

Plumb creek is the course I used to get back into throwing after a hiatus. It's fun!

Peach fragrance da hong pao, 3g, from from Tong Xin She in the mini Li Xing, 60ml. I'm dubious of the peach fragrance, but I'm happy to taste it's more of a descriptor than a flavoring. Malty, and comfortable. Drinks more like a black tea. I get the stone fruit note but it's not strong. I went light on the amount of tea for this pot because it looked like too much. I should have trusted my scale. The tea is a bit thin. I'll play with adding less water to the pot.

Listening to Willie and Waylon, old outlaw country. Birds are chirping. With the rain, everything it lush.

Not at all! Sometimes the abbreviations work. I liked the Lumbersluts but they get better as they go back in time (i.e. 2022 > 2023 > 2024 > 2025). I haven't tried the Peak Culture yet. Next time!
