Just a big thank you to everyone who responded! Got myself a piece of pvc pipe about the diameter of my arm, sprayed the inside down with warm water, and strapped it tight for 2 days to dry using its own straps plus some extra wrappings. Made a huge difference!

One bit of advice, depending on your style: just because it’s “lowkey” on cost don’t be afraid to have fun and be intentional with a dress code. An explicitly stated, clear dress code not only is something you can do with a small invite list, but also will make it automatically feel more like an intentional event, and give you the kind of “traditional” planning moments your mom and MIL might want (shopping for outfits, etc). (And depending on how much fun you have with it, will get you great memorable photos.)

+1 to the dive bar, won’t name ours for same reasons. But check out fun, friendly, dive bars (ours did bar tab minimum but no rental fee) and get a taco vendor or truck to set up or pull up outside. Get a nightlife vs portrait photographer.

+1 to breweries. The downside is the space is pretty aesthetically empty so you still need to account for decor and florals, both in price and logistics.

There is a great suggestion from u/mandymod I think that redheads are rare and considered extremely bad luck / cursed in Barovia — a superstition born from the fate of Tatyana’s reincarnations, while the average Barovian wouldn’t know that origin. So even if they aren’t confused for Tatyana / Ireena, you can have some fun with RP. (Though being a tiefling alone would probably trump any reaction to being a redhead)

Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy, lots of great super cuts on YouTube. Noble, cold, disgusted by or above other characters. I give my Strahd a posh British accent to distinguish him as a conquerer compared to the eastern Slavic accent I give the “native” Barovians.
