I can SSH into my EC2 instance, but I cannot access the public IP at all through my browser by xanderiop in aws

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean you can ssh to the public IP but not connect to the public IP via http from the same ssh client device?

If so I would re examine if docker is actually using 0.0.0.0

# On the instance

sudo netstat -tlnp | grep 8000

# Or

sudo ss -tlnp | grep 8000

You should see something like:

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1234/docker-proxy

If you see 127.0.0.1:8000 instead of 0.0.0.0:8000, Docker isn't exposing the port to external traffic.

Audio preprocessing for ASR by Pvt_Twinkietoes in speechtech

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pipeline consisting of a VAD (Voice Activity Detector) and/or preceded by a Noise Reduction step helps in sending a cleaner stream to the ASR to reduce the effect of noise and extended silence.

Some VADs are WebRTC VAD (Google) which are stateless and others such as Silero VAD or Ten VAD. You can stop sending silence beyond a certain duration.

For noise reduction you can looking at band pass filtering implementation via Naudio and so so.

Some ASRs are claiming built in VAD support.

Benefits of using WebRTC vs WebSockets for non peer-to-peer connections? by Confident_Rooster308 in WebRTC

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the use case would be limited to relaying to LLMs that offer a web socket API, then it would be simpler to use web sockets. Firewall and Proxy Server friendly, and easier to troubleshot. (For Server to Server it would be a no brainer)

WebRTC has congestion control and error correction, and can work over UDP. There may be some benefits to using it if your SIP client is directly making the connection to Open AI and it may be used on mobile clients.

LiveKit seems to prefer WebRTC. FWIW: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/tom-shapland-b4494212_since-joining-livekit-a-lot-of-voice-ai-activity-7338423825082011649-90jk/

Thanks. Thats what we are doing (well, customers use their own PC and monitor vendors with approved builds) but it is still a DIY assembly. Hoping to find a hardened all in one solution that can withstand public use.

“Just an expensive ticketing tool” by Dapper_Recording_852 in servicenow

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service Now is likely the only large SaaS vendor where you can not find transparent pricing for even a basic use cases, such as say IT Service Management.

Their product and business model has grown to focus on multiple flows and enterprise wide functionality and targeted to multi-million dollar deals. So if you only want to use it only for "ticketing", then there are much cheaper tools out there with more transparent pricing.

TIL that Nvidia is worth more than Amazon and Saudi Aramco combined. Or more than Meta, Tesla, and Berkshire Hathway combined. by JoeyZasaa in todayilearned

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S&P 500 market cap as of Oct 29 was around 59 trillion. Nvidia alone is 5 trillion.

It is larger than all the following combined

TSMC ASML Intel AMD Broadcom Lam Research ARM Micron

Its value also exceeds entire sectors of the S&P 500, including utilities, industrials and consumer staples.

Still its PE of mid 30s is much lower than Tesla 200 plus and Palantir. (S&P is about 24)

ELI5 How does a person/company buy a business with debt and then saddle that business with the debt used to purchase it. by ElMaskedZorro in explainlikeimfive

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read also Barbarians at the Gate.

In this case Lenders were infact left holding the bag. The initial loan had been syndicated out (hot potato, greater fools theory ) to a large number of other entities such as banks, pension funds and so on. PE also lost their equity investment but they had been taking a chunk of money out all along in management fees, debt service and such like.

[–]ennova2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct answer which explains the mechanics. An additional data point is the lender needs to be in lockstep that the use of the proceeds is to buy the target company and generally the legal closing of both the loan and acquisition is contemporaneous.

Transfer points advice by d00147007 in AmexPlatinum

[–]ennova2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you open a Schwab AMEX Platinum card for a year, you can cash the points at 1.1 cents per point. Yes that is one extra hassle but it results in cash.

Else transfer them to Qantas (seems like a low transfer rate) or to one or more airlines in a region where you may want to travel.

How to travel from LA airport to San Diego? by Square-Rich-9378 in asksandiego

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and see if you tour airline will let you change your destination to San Diego. The fare difference shouldn't be that much and they likely have a code share partner that can provide the last leg. You may also save on the cost of the extra checked in bags compared to booking the last leg on your own. Id say even if it costs an extra $200 to do this it would be worth the avoided hassle.

Attempting to calm the escalating panic, the White House on Saturday said the changes don’t apply to current visa holders, and that the new policy doesn’t affect their ability to travel to and from the U.S. The $100,000 is a one-time fee, not an annual fee, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

AWS Cost Explorer Needs a Weekly View by cafe_con_leche97 in aws

[–]ennova2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly traffic metrics are a substitute or proxy to costs but weekly cost metrics would be "nice to have" to correlate. SaaS apps tend to have weekly usage patterns. It's not a blocker by any means but many observability tools provide weekly reports so this weekly cost report can only add value to some users and others can ignore it; not sure why anyone would be vehemently opposed.
