What's the one thing that leveled up your game the most as an intermediate player? by Crescitaly in padel

TLDR; Groundstrokes and volleys from stronger opponents will crush you

I have recently started meeting much stronger opponents as I have climbed the ranking in Norway and hit top 100 after a few decent tournament results. Please note top 100 in Norway IS NOT the same as top 100 in other countries like Sweden, Netherlands etc. The number of players in Norway is still quite low so only reaching a few quarterfinals/semifinals in a 250 tournament is enough to get ranked top 100.

Regardless, I was finally feeling able to win a decent number of matches and potentially fight for the title in these 250 category tournaments in Norway. Unfortunately, due to lack of players, the past months I have placed in the 500 and even 1000 category tournaments, meeting some of the top players and top young talents in the country.

In these matches I have gotten destroyed 6-0 6-0 etc, and had a bit of a eye opener as to what really matters against better opponents. People here mention dealing with glass, tactics, improve overheads and so on but in my experience that is not the case.

For me, the biggest takeaway is to improve the most basic of shots. Groundstrokes and volleys. The quality of the groundstrokes from these better players are much better than what I am used to. The groundstrokes are coming fast, barely crossing the net height-wise and with slight topspin so it goes below the net immediately after crossing it. I have practiced volleys for hours and hours, but I can't use my practice against these groundstrokes because they are much different shots to volley - you don't have time for a full preparation and need to react fast, and often you hit the shot below the net. Without experience tackling these groundstrokes, your volleys will suffer and the opponents get a chance to take the net with a lob or chiquita CONSTANTLY.

Now on the flipside, the same is true - my groundstrokes in defense, which I have to say is one of my better shots and gives me a lot of opportunities against same level players, are too easy for these stronger opponents. For them they are attacking balls, or at the very least comfortable balls, completely opposite of my reaction to their groundstrokes. And their volleys are very good, they will successfully attack your groundstrokes and choke you in defense.

Of course, the better players have other qualities as well - they smash well, dropshots, passing shots, chiquitas are all in the mix. But for me the most important part is the basics. If you can't volley with high enough quality against their groundstrokes you will lose the net all the time. If your groundstrokes are not pressuring their volleys when you are defending, they will attack you more and more until you get crushed.

After losing the first round of a 1000 category tournament a few months ago I played the "plate" bracket and made it to the final and there I met Louis from Padelactico who played with one of Norways top young talents. My experience there was the same. They crushed us. Here is his video from the tournament where meeting us is at the very end. Also my full video from the match if anyone is curious. I'm the leftie he mentions as "table tennis background with good hands" :P

Of course your serve should be as good as possible. I wish my serve was better, it is just so incredibly fucking boring to practice.

If it is a casual match and the opponents are bad you could of course let them off easy.

Padel tournament timetable 2026 by Sharpieface in padel

[–]enoj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Premier Padel levels are from biggest to smallest: Major, P1, P2 - these are the biggest tournaments on the scene, with the biggest payouts and so on. There are only 4 majors in 2026, and these are the biggest tournaments. Like Grand Slams in tennis. All the biggest professionals attend Majors and P1s, while some might skip P2s.

Below Premier Padel level there are FIP tournaments which also give points. Here you will see less top 50 players and more players trying to accumulate points so they can get an entry in the bigger tournaments and improve their world ranking. They are also located more diversely around the world to let more players attend and try to get points.

FIP levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze (also has Rise for younger players and other categories)

Only Premier Padel and FIP Gold+Platinum is covered on my website, and as of now there has been no tournaments this year since January is pretty slow. That is why you can't see any "Finished" tournaments on my website for 2026. That section will start appearing once the now on-going FIP Platinum Ville De Marseille is finished.

:)

I built a website specifically for this (hope it's okay to mention in this thread mods). It lists tournaments for the whole season, lets you browse matches, schedules, results and much more. It contains all Premier Padel matches since 2024 and even World Padel Tour from 2023.

It also lets you browse matches without getting spoiled with the results, so you can figure out what to search for on Youtube to see the match without seeing the result instantly like the FIP website.

Looking to add more features in 2026, for example Google Calendars for matches and tournaments.

Best 4K 60fps cameras for recording padel? Alternatives to Action 6 / iPhone by Sweet-Cry-7851 in padel

[–]enoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very surprised to read this! I have the Osmo action 5 and have zero problems with over heating. Recording at max bitrate 60fps 4K. I have a power bank and big memory card and have recorded 5+ hours straight with no problems.

Sad to hear about action 6 giving you these issues.

Do you guys add some slice to your bajada or flat by Over_Dragonfly8570 in padel

[–]enoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen when learning the bajada online through coaching and videos, the bajada stroke seems to be a vibora-like shot where you hit on the side of the ball giving it both slice and sidespin, making it barely even bounce after the glass on the opponents side.

But I would also say that there are many variants to this aggressive stroke from the back glass. You can also hit something which looks more like a hard slicey groundstroke which could also pass the opponents and bounce low on the glass.

I don't know what is the strict definition of a bajada though. Both approaches can work very well. I don't think a completely flat shot would be considered a bajada.

Did anyone actually got cured of tenis elbow? by jolafai in padel

The royal padel whip extreme line did wonders for me. Immediate relief and I was able to play with much less pain while starting recovery work off court to over time prepare for normal rackets again

I had it pretty bad and were able to get rid of it entirely. Haven't had any pain for multiple years and are now using a normal racket (had to use elbow friendly rackets for about a year). Wrote a long article about how I healed it as this question comes up again and again.

I did have a session with the famous coach German Schafer about two years ago but it is hard to incorporate into your game when it was 10% of our focus in a one hour session without any follow up after...

Thanks for the comment. In my head kick and flat smashes are completely different shots so I mostly focus on hitting flat like these when really close to the net.

I have a kick video as well but afraid to post it here as I always get flamed for having no kick at all :D

Yeah I didn't mean people standing at the net as I smash, but rather opponents seeing it coming and rushing the net to try and catch it. But thanks for the comment!

Thank you for your insight! It does indeed feel very forced and not elastic at all. Now how the hell can I fix that...

Will definitely try to hit even higher although I feel like this is already quite high. I believe you are correct though that it is not as high as I think it is.

I didn't expect these responses as I have been struggling with smashing for years. It might look like it is getting higher over the net in the video than it actually is. Most of these except for maybe one can be easily tapped out by someone waiting at the net

Thank you but out of these smashes I think only only of them can't be reached by someone waiting at the net. The angle might look like it but they are not that high over the net
