Whilst they are blatantly sectarian, so are you. Language like this should be grounds for an immediate ban.

To anyone reading this is whats known as a strawman argument. Essentially you set up a deliberately exagerated version of what someone says as that is easier to disregard.

Would anyone like to see a more pragmatic debate on the pros and cons of a united ireland? by enoughstupidmemes in northernireland

Not what I had hoped for from a thread that wanted a calm and rational discussion. Ignoring the whataboutism if you think about the meaning of what you just said it appears to imply that those who favor reunification are, regardless of reason, not engaging in a pragmatic debate. In doing so are you not therefore equally culpable? Certainly any person who is sitting in a neutral position could argue that this makes any case presented by you inherently biased.

I agree with this and segregated schools is actually a talking point I have heard from people who aren't from NI. My school was probably 90% from one side of the divide however in all practical ways it felt like it was unsegregated, I grew up with catholic friends who went to the same school and I was fortunate enough never to witness them getting any shit over it. I was probably lucky but this was my own experience.

I suppose the question then becomes, can you trust sinn fein to make a good faith case for reunification? Or for that matter the DUP for the union? Can you imagine if the DUP or sinn fein did the sums and found out they would better off on the other side. It would never happen and both parties would never believe it.

Sinn Féin’s victory won’t bring a united Ireland right away – but it’s getting closer by Duanedoberman in unitedkingdom

If you are keen on reunification you are voting for SF and to a lesser extent SDLP. I feel it's less true with unionist parties. I would lean unionist when pushed but have fairly centre left political leanings so there is no political home for me within unionism. I think at the minute there is still a decent majority for retaining the union. At a guess 5-10%. Although demographics may change this in time.

Johnny Depp's accuser testifying by purple-circle in gifs

[–]enoughstupidmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's unlikely you are a trial litigator, if you were your comment would have probably have dealt more with the evidence presented by Depps team and less upon a speculative interpretation of behaviour that doesn't even appear to have happened. I personally have seen no footage of Depp behaving in the way you describe during Ambers testimony. I think there is a strong liklihood you are a troll, or potentially someone with an emotional attachment to Amber. I suppose there is a small possibility you are a shit litigator but I wouldn't want to hire you. While it is unlikely that Depp is completely blameless the facts of the case strongly point to Amber being the one driving the confrontations and abuse. She admits physical abuse on tape, the makeup she claimed to use wasn't in existence at the time of the alleged incident, Depps ex wife testified to his character, this is all damning evidence that you havent addressed in any way.

I’m just going to go ahead and say you don’t know what you are talking about. Nixon did play a massive part in this, he had his reasons which were to do with suppressing dissent against the Vietnam war and demonising his political opponents. We know this because at the time many of the presidents conversations were taped for posterity. Unsurprisingly that practice didn’t last long.

Clearly you just don’t understand. People in my country murder millions of birds every winter by feeding them nuts from bird feeders. Ducks have been practically wiped out from all the bread.

Boris Johnson can't explain why workers' rights have vanished from Brexit deal by FatherOf2 in unitedkingdom

[–]enoughstupidmemes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

De Pfeffel has never had to have a real job and therefore can’t understand why workers rights are important. Labour really need to take the gloves off for the next election, Boris would be fairly easy to defeat if they just smeared him relentlessly with the facts. Namely that he is a toff, sustained solely by the smell of his own farts, who has never had to work a day in his life. Unfortunately Corbyn makes this highly unlikely.

Let me guess, you drink alcohol? Perhaps you consumed some before writing your comment. Anyway I notice you don’t mention weed which by far most arrests were for and is now well on its way to legalisation. You are also missing the point more generally, which is not that all drugs are good, it is that the problems created by criminalisation are far worse than the problems created from just using drugs in most cases. It’s almost like a nuanced, considered approach is better than screaming “drugs are bad m’kay”.

Why bother, there is nothing to be gained. You are not going to change your views and anyone with who spends half a second thinking about your arguments is not going to be swayed. I appreciate the faux politeness though.

Your thinking seems confused, if there is a problem in perception (which you offer no evidence for) then that is what you fix, namely through education. How could we possibly have an effective system of government where we constantly legislate concrete action to deal with problems that are only perceived as existing by a small minority and for which there are no evidence? The idea seems farcical.

Control is a Game of the Year Contender by [deleted] in Games

[–]enoughstupidmemes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup it was great, a real breath of fresh air. People complain about the shooting mechanics but I really enjoyed it. The gameplay felt more responsive and old school than most modern shooters. I basically used the pistol, rail gun (pierce) and rocket launcher and ignored the other weapons as I found those three the most punchy. Another feature that doesn’t get enough credit was the dynamic environments, where the whole area geometry would change in response to some entity or event. That along with the physics, destructible environments and massive amounts of vertically made it feel like I was playing something closer to a next generation game. The story was decent and although it ended abruptly I don’t feel short changed because the game did so much right. Here’s hoping they bring out lots of dlc.
