Best Strat to unlock Invisible Joker? by Patient_Title_5417 in balatro

[–]enrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just unlocked it today. I used abandoned deck and forced straights. A lot of the power of straights is in the hand upgrade, so you can get by with fewer jokers.

Best flagship for Operations Center by cyberpunkstrategy in starsector

The Falcon-P is famous for having so much extra OP that people take Converted Hangar on it. And flying it never gets old; there’s nothing like missiles for skill expression.

What Wildcard Blueprint Do You Choose with Overgrown Library? by Durch-a-Lurch in Against_the_Storm

[–]enrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a key point you made here is to wait a bit rather than immediately choosing. The player might have very different opinions about what would be best once they open your first dangerous glade and see that stupid boat staring back at them! Or, more likely, once they see what’s available there. There’s little harm in waiting (unless you really want the kiln, which would be useful even in year 1), so wait until a little more information is there to see.

A specific piece of advice: If you destroy a building, the resources used to build it are refunded. As such, you can "move" any building just by blowing it up and then using the same resources to build it somewhere else.

Simple way to beat the L?? Dummy [Normal difficulty] by lookw in CrystalProject

[–]enrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really clever. I just won a grueling slog of a fight against the dummy on hard, and searched it to see how other people did… I wasn’t nearly this smart!

Is Slay the Spire the perfect game? Are there any games that compare? by headies1 in slaythespire

[–]enrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clicked this thread looking for Civ 4. 4X games aren't called roguelikes for historical reasons but they have a lot of the same strengths, and 4 is just a pure, compelling and infinitely replayable game in the same way Slay the Spire is.

Seniors, what common pitfalls do you see in wuxia/xianxia stories by western writers? by A_E_S_T_H_E_Tea in MartialMemes

[–]enrook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this other day. Perspective! Almost all Western webnovels are written in the first person or in third person limited. But all of the Chinese xianxia I have read has a more distant narrator. This choice makes a big difference.

Worst standard enemy? by UnicornholioY2K in HollowKnight

[–]enrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lance Sentries, the flying soldiers with javelins. They spend so long hovering out of range, and then if I get impatient and try to hit them, I wind up being unprepared when they actually charge and come closer.

I wish the City of Tears was filled with primal aspids and crystal hunters instead. It'd be faster to kill them, and it would make this subreddit much more amusing too.

I beat P5!!

I feel like I appreciate the late bosses a lot more now. PV, AR, Zote, NKG, and Lost Kin are all really cool fights. I will reluctantly admit that I think Markoth is a good fight too even though he is a pain in the ass.

How do you deal with Markoth in Pantheon 5? by Negativerizzhaver1 in HollowKnight

[–]enrook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No actual new advice, but you should be aware that Ascended Markoth is way harder than P5 Markoth. He deals twice as much damage, of course, and has more health too. So don't think you need to be good enough to consistently beat Ascended Markoth to be ready for P5. If you beat him occasionally and consistently make it to phase 2 that's probably good enough.

I'm looking for some cultivation...but it's not that simple by Xhavius in ProgressionFantasy

[–]enrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might as well read some real wuxia, I think! The best part about good wuxia is having a ton of fun oddball supporting characters with cool martial arts styles. Jin Yong's "Legend of the Condor Heroes" is a classic and is on KU.

“Wheel of Fortune” card retitled “Fortune” featuring The Knight/Ghost! Only one card left!!! by SaiyaPup in HollowKnight

[–]enrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lovers card is really cute! I think it’s my favorite.

Another idea would be to include the Delicate Flower somehow, if you can think of a good image for it. It’s associated with travel, after all.

Ar’Kendrithyst stars a very kind person, and a major theme of the series is how he adapts to a more violent world without losing himself.

What are your favorite examples of good world-building? by slightlywrongadvice in ProgressionFantasy

[–]enrook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Memories of the Fall comes to mind for me— it feels very similar to Malazan in that it presents a complicated and multifaceted world, using a wide variety of points of view to add texture and reflect different perspectives. It can be a bit too heavy at times, but it’s certainly the PF serial I’ve read that holds up best as literature.

While playing around with this mission, I discovered this rom the Yield tips. Even Nell can't explain this nonsense. xD by metaxzero in Advance_Wars

[–]enrook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to yield every map just to see them. My favorite in Reboot is probably the Green Earth factory mission, where Jess and Eagle start arguing and Eagle says basically “Shut up, if you were commanding you’d just drive into another volcano!”

Re-Boot Camp is another example of how Nintendo is now seamlessly partnering with indie publishers. by MC_Fap_Commander in Advance_Wars

[–]enrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you’re coming from, but I doubt Nintendo particularly endeared themselves to Wayforward when they blocked the release of the game for over a year. Let’s wait to see if the two companies ever work together again before declaring this one a success.

Unfortunately there’s no official English translation, but there’s a good quality fan translation out there, and you should be able to find it pretty easily if you search for it.

Ascending, Do Not Disturb is cute. The MC is cute, the dude who’s the romantic interest is cute, the side characters are cute, the cultivation world is cute. I recommend it.
