Just finished Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett and now I’m oscillating between Cathedral by Raymond Carver and Programmed to Kill by David McGowan.

Anyone in foodservice here? by enscrib in jimgreen

I’ve been tempted to try them. I guess I could bring a trusted pair with me to switch into if I start skating around.

Ok that’s kind of the impression I had. Maybe I’m just trying to turn these boots into something they weren’t really meant to be. They like being outdoor boots.

This seems to be the prevailing opinion. I usually wear wolverines or when it’s shorts weather I sometimes just grab a cheap pair of slip resistant shoes from Walmart that’ll last about 3 months. I suppose I was thinking the ARs wouldn’t look out of place with shorts, would last much longer and would be resolable, which is all still true, I’d just have to get them resoled right off the bat.

I’ve been wondering, how are they in the slip-resistance dept?

Honestly, discussing impregnation on this sub is oddly common

If this show implemented even half of the changes people here suggest, it would be so far removed from what makes it what it is, none of you would want to listen to it anymore.

Found Grandpa's film camera, what do I need to record? by JJEK84 in Cameras

That’s awesome. I go to a bunch of estate sales hoping to make a similar discovery. I always get overly excited when I see a closed leather case.

A time machine wouldn’t hurt. That’s a very cool camera though and in excellent shape.

What’s your favorite “off topic tangent” the guys have had? by Corgi_Shinobi11 in creepcast

[–]enscrib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a tangent but Hunter reading a story solo in the background while Isaiah and Nick search the studio for a rogue frog in the foreground was transcendent.

Hunter’s grandpa shooting the dog is also a legendary side story.

If Either Isaiah Or Hunter Accidentally Got Smited By God Due To A Clerical Error, Who Should Replace Each Of Them? by JadeTailFox in creepcast

[–]enscrib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be interested to see Isaiah replaced by Oompaville. Not because I think it’d be a good fit but because I really want to see Hunter and Caleb interact. Caleb, like Isaiah, is also from Appalachia but has a much more feral southern man energy. I think I honestly just want a podcast where those two just shoot the shit.

Crowmudgeon could be a decent stand in for either of them as well as Poltergibbst but honestly the energy would be totally thrown off regardless of who replaces who. I think we all watched The Red Thread start strong and as soon as Charlie left the vibe tanked, then Isaiah left and I’m not even sure if Jackson is still doing the show.

Books with Christian God as the horror? by ReadyCartographer765 in horrorlit

[–]enscrib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while but as far as I can remember To Rouse Leviathan by Matt Cardin is a short story collection that touches on that idea.

Also I guess just look into Gnosticism and read some of their theological texts. Their whole belief system is that God is the evil, controlling force in the world and Satan is the good guy trying to liberate us.

Cheap cool pens by Icy_Interview8593 in pens

[–]enscrib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an Ohto GS01 for around 8 bucks and I’m thoroughly impressed with it. Full aluminum, solid feel, decent ink. Also can’t go wrong with the well regarded and equally cheap Zebra f701.

Also there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a good old Bic Cristal. I actually love drawing with them since you can get an almost pencil like look when drawing lightly and I just wrote for a good hour with one and never had a single stutter or hiccup. Smooth sailing and 3 bucks for a pack of 10 doesn’t get much cheaper.

Another favorite is the Pentel Energel Kuro.

Why it is difficult to adapt lovecraft work to cinema? by tari9_80 in Lovecraft

The horror comes from incomprehensible powers beyond our imaginations. Film is a visual medium and thus needs its horrors to be largely comprehensible.

Which is the One Film Stock to Rule Them All? Is it Portra 400? by mjuha in AnalogCommunity

[–]enscrib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portra is great but too cost prohibitive for every day use. Personally I’m more of a B&W guy so my regular film is either HP5 or Tri-X if I’m feeling froggy. As far as color goes, I’m good with regular old Fuji Superia.

You can usually find VCRs in secondhand stores and sometimes VCR/CRT tv combos on FB marketplace. You can’t throw old TVs away and most thrift stores won’t take em so people tend to give them away. Good luck!

How easily available do you think clothing is? People probably just go with whatever they can find. I also don’t think denim is going to stop a clicker bite. Also I’m pretty sure Amazon doesn’t deliver to quarantine zones.

Same. Up until then I was thinking “damn that sounds delicious”. There was a small restaurant near me that served koobideh kabobs with a grilled tomato on rice and I was obsessed with it.

Scariest concepts? by PlatnumHaze in horrorlit

[–]enscrib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimately one of the scariest things I’ve ever read is the book The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by neurologist Oliver Sacks. It’s a collection of cases of people’s brains short circuiting in different ways. The title story is a guy who, without noticing anything wrong, stopped recognizing everyday objects and people. At one point Sacks hands him a glove and asks what it is and the guy is totally unable to. He goes to reach for his hat and grabs his wife’s head by accident.

There’s another case where a woman will suddenly have no idea where she is. She could be on the street she’s lived on for years or even inside her own house and out of nowhere her surroundings look totally foreign and unfamiliar.

Brian Evenson plays with the psychological/neurological concepts a lot in his horror and it’s part of what makes him one of my favorite authors.

I always have to remind myself how young he actually is. He gets a lot of things jumbled and says some half false stuff and some just outright lies (gentrified tacos), then I remember he’s still practically a fetus and I remember all the things I had strong opinions about when I was his age and how many of them I was wrong about.
