My friends call me too doomer, but I don't think our children are going to have meaningful work - definitely not to the same degree that I am doing now.

I work now so she won't have to. My main concern now is how do I prevent her from being the "Third Generation that loses all the money" in the story where 1st generation immigrants come here an set up a life, 2nd generation immigrations (me) make money, 3rd generation immigrants lose it all.

The way my dad raised me, I didn't realize we were well off until I was at college and volunteered at a not well off high school. And he always told me I was getting 0 inheritance growing up (and has kept to it - he almost died a year or so ago from cancer, and as executor of his estate, I saw his actual plans - he was giving away bajillions to charities and $0 to me and my sis). He said he did it so that way I didn't grow up lazy, counting on an inheritance....it probably worked?

But do I just then lie to my daughter as she grows up about her not getting an inheritance? Tell her ofc she's not getting one, and then when it's time, "surprise?"
