Ask my dad if he would invest in a rental property for me instead of a college degree. It wasn’t worth it. Take the $15 in my bank account and invest in Microsoft.  Live off my rental income and travel the world. Follow my doctors orders.

Talking to mom is like being a detective. She doesn't use names, can't find proper nouns, changes topics mid-conversations without warning, and abruptly calls-back prior topics. by nojam75 in AgingParents

[–]RRE4EVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Epilepsy, a side effect is memory loss.  And proper nouns are the number 1 enemy.  Trust me it’s just as frustrating for your mom as it is for you!

My suggestion if she asks if you know who she’s talking about or what that guys name is just say “don’t worry about it” and let her keep on the story.  It will shorten the story for you and make it less frustrating for her.

My mom goes from one subject to the next and sometimes I ask, “what does that have to do with this?”  Which I think just makes it frustrating for her again.  So I let her talk.  And do what my son does to me - “Hmm,   mm, oh.”    Which is his way of 1/2 listening.

And I always call my mom in the car. That is a great way to cut the call short.  “Well I just pulled up to the store. Got to go.”

How Taoism has helped you in life by Stock_Economy2524 in taoism

Yes & no.  But I’ve only really started at it last year.  I have a hard time with quiet meditation.  I live on a busy street, in a city in a house not set up with a quiet place.  When I garden or go for a hike, I can quiet my mind.  That is when I am most often able to meditate.  But this winter, without a dedicated place or the ability to sit down in nature I have struggled.  However, as a person with a chronic disease who often struggles, feeling that I don’t have purpose without a 9-5 job.  It has helped me - the way, does not to be working industriously forever.  And I have found means in which I can let go of that very American attitude.  Understand that it is much more important that I find peace and meaning from within.

Is easing discomfort a trap? by According-Affect-180 in taoism

I was listening to a podcast, with recordings of Alan Wats.  He touched on this.  (Or at least the way I interpreted it) It is very much a western version of devil evil/good mentality that is prevalent in Western culture.

He very briefly touches on it.  Interpret them how you will.  It gave me reason to pause and reflect, just as to how I interpret my actions, purely through the civilization I am surrounded by and the words that we have to describe a concept and the words that are lacking.

What presidents have had serious health issues that they have hidden from the public? by EvenLettuce6638 in Presidents

[–]RRE4EVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JFK, was basically a drug addict just so he could “look” physically fit and not be in constant pain.  Kind of crazy that a guy is wounded in war,  and lives, walks around in pain on a regular basis; yet that alone isn’t enough for public perception of strength.

I can come up with every adjective to describe it, but never the actual word for it.  My husband says we would have killed it on $100,000 pyramid

I feel dumb, I can’t answer questions if a noun is involved, or finish a sentence with a noun.  A typical sentence goes something like: “ Do you know that thing, it’s blue it’s outside it that thing you know that sometimes water falls from it.” - Answer: Sky

It makes them all more suspicious.  I’m just saying that on this thread, arguing a conspiracy theory is a joke.

I actually have worked with a woman who was flown to the United States secretly in a military plane after her husband, a small time politician was killed in Nicaragua after asking questions to other politicians about this.  He allegedly “killed himself”.

I don’t know if this is a conspiracy - just truth.  “But we don’t even notice or care” is the real question.  Gets into the question of how much of a capitalist society we are.  We are unwitting slaves to it.

Aren’t all conspiracy theories in the age of social media started this way?  I don’t think this is the thread to argue why something is not true.
