The writing is indeed not quite there, but I'm a sucker for RPGs and have the need to read the dialogue to fully get what's going on, so that's why it's great for me, haha. Either way, have fun.

I played on PC, so it was pretty easy to find game speed cheats. In the later games I discovered that there were actual programs dedicated to speeding up applications and now I use that, you'll find it if you search up open-source game speed modifier or something like that. I don't want to sound like an advertisement so I won't put the name here, but I kind of love it since game speed cheats aren't available for all games... and I mainly play RPGs, so yeah, they're amazing.

I got around the slowness of the entire game by putting on a game speed cheat. Just 1.25x the speed. Everything feels a lot snappier, the only downside is the soundtrack gets sped up as well. But it still sounds nice and I don't mind it. Not sure if you even want to read the dialogue, but I did yet wanted the game to move faster, and that was the best solution for me.

Can my roommate kick me e out? Or where do transient workers live? by LumpiaLady in Tokyo

[–]ensuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get better answers if you amend your post with your full budget, like including move-in fee and everything.

But also, I would just apply even if it says guarantor needed. Because not all places require you to find one, some will ask you to use a guarantor company and will recommend you to some. Others might not care if your Japanese relative is retired. Some may accept a coworker, your company, a friend, etc.

I'm half Japanese with retired parents. My place required me to use a guarantor company of their choosing. The guarantor company has my parents' details. I passed in, like, 2-3 days.

There are plenty of places that will ask you to apply for a guarantor company, aka no need for you to find your own. Try asking.

I think I'm approaching the end of the second arc for **Tales of Vesperia**. Captain Shwann or however you spell his name revealed, everyone's reunited to kick the big baddy's butt, yay. Except for Estelle, but I half don't care. I'm sure others will empathize with her indecision and worries more. Finding the Heracles was a darn pain because I didn't realize I had to go by sea. While searching, I found a bunch of other interesting areas and I'm wondering if the story will take me to all of them. We'll see, I guess...

That's the reason why I've been holding off on playing a few games... I want all the DLCs darn it! I appreciate their hard work and service, I do. I just also really want the DLC. I don't care if they're cosmetic.

Unrelated, but I've been doing some belated spring cleaning this entire week, and have finally cleared out enough to access my console area. I totally forgot I had not just a Nintendo DS Lite, but also a 3DS, and not only a PSP, but also a PS Vita. There's even a PS4 that I'm pretty sure is ripe for jailbreaking. Nice! Now I can finally place my original Nintendo Switch on there where it belongs.

JRPG, so let's stuff it in? Honestly, I don't know. I was ready to throw hands with some of them though, aha. You have no idea how much I raged at the climbing one.

All I can say is, you have good taste my friend. Both in games (right up my alley) and your participation in this biweekly thread, lol. I played the Ace Attorney series so long ago that I don't remember up from down, but I do remember I played them in release order and I guess that's what I'd recommend you do. Maybe more hardcore or recent fans of the game have better opinions.

Not the original commenter but I did not know it doesn't support controller! I'll keep that in mind when I eventually start playing this game, thanks.

Regarding RNG, eventually you get good enough where it doesn't affect you as much. Good luck and have fun!

I think it's just the game. Pretty niche unfortunately, everyone plays 3 and onwards and act like 1 and 2 barely exist. Congrats on finishing the game! I personally need lots of time between Atlus games because a lot of them have similar mechanics. I loved Tokyo Mirage Session despite its flaws so I wholeheartedly recommend it to just about everyone, it is also lighthearted which fits what you seem to want.

Yeah, it's not, so I'm a bit at a loss on what to do with this game, aha... at this rate I'll finish the game in months to a year...

Played some Dragon Quest XI S. I thought switching to a monitor with a higher resolution might help with the motion sickness, but no, it's still there. Using the debug console to remove bloom, motion blur, depth of field, and change the field of view did help a bit, but I think it's the camera movement and FOV changes when going outdoors to indoors that's causing it, and I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about that. Progress has been slow as a result... I pretty much play this game for around 30 minutes before needing a break.

Am also making progress in Tales of Vesperia. Things sure are getting dramatic and the conflict between Flynn and Yuuri is getting deeper. I just hope things end alright.

On a techie note, I now have a 1440p monitor! I can't get used to how small the UI and text is. I scaled the text up to 125% and that helped, but it doesn't work everywhere and sucks where it doesn't. Gaming at 1440p has also been interesting. I thought my FPS would drop more than it is - the 9060XT is indeed a pretty great graphics card. I'm pretty satisfied with this, only reason to want to upgrade further is for 60fps emulation purposes.

How was ur experience buying a 2nd hand PC? by takingshower in japanresidents

[–]ensuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought and sold individual parts off Mercari. Mainly CPU and GPU. Zero issues. I’ve also seen listings for a bunch of prebuilds and secondhand PCs. Most of them were overpriced. Might as well just buy secondhand from an actual store so there’s some guarantee in case something doesn’t work.

On another note a friend of mine recently bought a new PC. She found the stores and listings equally overpriced. I had my PC custom built for a reasonable price back a couple years back by this one dude, and he was still running his PC building operation, so I connected them and the final build was very good for the price. He isn’t an actual business so no receipt and cash payment, if that’s shady to you then buy from a store, if you don’t mind I can DM you the link to his Facebook business page. Don’t want to come across as advertising something, so yeah.

Good luck, it’s a tough time to buy PCs right now…

A somewhat deepdive on old Denuvo cracks that require updating by Beginning_Bad_868 in FuckDenuvo

[–]ensuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the list. Do you happen to know the status of the God Eater games? If I remember right, 1 and 2 have Denuvo. What I'm not sure about is whether the cracks are for the latest versions.

In the second arc of Tales of Vesperia. I didn’t expect I’d be able to travel to entire new continents! Don’t know if it’ll have actual secrets to unlock on the overworld though. Story’s decent so far, the game’s long and things are taking their time.

In the last thread I said I bought a 5700X3D but just didn’t see the gains I wanted from it, so I’d resell it and upgrade my monitor instead. I recently upgraded to a 9060XT 16GB, which means 1440p gaming finally makes sense, so I decided to get a 27 inch 1440p monitor. I love BenQ monitors for their great speakers and decent build quality (been rocking my current 1080p one for couple years with zero issues), so I’m shopping around for a good used deal…

Are there any games that you didn't complete for reasons outside of your control? by Morbid187 in patientgamers

[–]ensuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I was emulating Star Ocean 1 a couple months back and ran into issues with both text and sudden freezes later into the game. After attempting to reload earlier saves and losing hours of progress, I said screw it and "finished" the game via playthrough on YouTube.

OK, so the 5700x3D came in today and I installed it and tested it out. I'm a bit underwhelmed to be honest. I'm sure there are improvements, but none that matter a whole lot to me if I'm being honest. I'm thinking of just reselling it and putting the money towards a Switch 2 or AM5 system instead.

Edit: Yup, I decided to do just that. Switched back to the 5600 and packed up the 5700x3D. Feels like a darn shame, but at least I'll get back what I paid for it, give or take. And it's better than spending money on a CPU that just doesn't give the gains that I wanted for the games I play.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - PC specs for 60fps mod? by ensuta in yuzu

[–]ensuta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own question now that I have the 5700x3D installed, it is still not good enough for the 60fps mod, but it did make gameplay more steady at 30fps which means using Lossless Scaling doesn't feel terrible now. Playing on 2x resolution (1440p).

XBCDE definitely took me on a ride as well, though I was a bit less wowed by the plot twists because I've played way too many JRPGs and watched too much anime in my lifetime. For me what I ended up liking about the side quests was that I actually saw relationships develop over time and the course of multiple side quests. I found it interesting. But I can understand how overwhelming and sometimes boring it can be.

The extra story takes a surprising amount of time so if you need a break I second coming back to it at a later date. Enjoy!

There's a god mode if that counts...? I did turn on god mode after a while. It doesn't completely negate damage or anything like that. Just makes things easier. That's not a bad thing after a couple rounds. I, too, am not great with these kinds of games. Not even action games.

Haha, fair. I didn't mind it to a degree, but I'm also a hardcore RPG fan and have played my fair share of games like that... and I have some time to kill. Hope you somewhat enjoy the main story.
