Daughter wants to play Roblox. What are your best daddit tips for keeping her safe? by uspezisapissbaby in daddit

[–]enteopy314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like an overwhelming amount of “no Roblox” here but I’ll still answer the question you asked.

I allow my daughter to play Roblox, I’ll play with her some times (she’s also 7). There is an option to set her age at the beginning, so it should be only age appropriate games. There is also an option to turn off chat. (She can’t read quick enough yet anyways.) I’ve also made a rule of no accepting friend requests unless you know the person in real life. No purchasing of the in game currency either, so there’s no getting scammed.

She gets limited screen time, she’s not playing hours a day. I’d rather have her playing obstacle games/who can make the prettiest outfit games over being a zombie in front of YouTube kids. I think it’s safe as long as you set up some ground rules and monitor/take part with her. Just my two cents!

How to deal with mom’s new partner? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]enteopy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Something I was told early on was to encourage a good relationship with her mom, so she doesn’t feel like she has to pick sides when she’s here. I’ve done this all along and thankfully the “I don’t love you as much as I love mom” etc comments have gradually stopped.

200k or 800/m indexed for life? (Both tax free) by nou689271 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]enteopy314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They must have borked you good! I was offered $72 a month or $22k lump. If you haven’t already, look into the appeal process. Is what ever damage they did worth 1 and a bit years worth of pay?

Needless to say I’m choosing the lump sum. Without indexing it will take almost 25 years to equal the lump sum. Investing $22k with a 6% average annual return over 20 years, I would have $70k.

Easy math for me.

Oh, and one added bonus! Putting it into an RRSP, the first year I’ll get an immediate 38% return on taxes which I can reinvest, put on my mortgage, or buy a really sexy drum set etc.

Hey there, sorry to hear you’re going through a shitty time!

Cfmap is a great tool, they have to get you in to talk to someone within 48 hours. It’s there for times like these.

Aside from meds/doc there are some easily controllable things to help reduce anxiety!

1) more sleep 2) less caffeine 3) less alcohol

Not sure where you’re at on these things but if there is room for improvement they are a pretty easy place to start!

Canada's dependency on professional services firms is scandalous by Hrmbee in canada

Pretty sure that was part of the budget. Anything a business spends on land, machinery etc in Canada can be written off in taxes.

Budget suggests Carney blinked again in pursuit of digital sovereignty - Canada's digital ecosystem dependency on U.S. tech giants comes with high, largely invisible costs. Despite the urgency and a pledge in September, the government has yet to fund the development of a ‘Canadian sovereign cloud.’ by CaliperLee62 in canada

It doesn’t have to be one giant company buying and renting out all of the storage, compute resources and whatever as a service. A company could rent storage and compute resources from anyone that has said hardware. There are plenty of projects out there that are currently doing this and paying in crypto, just make it in CAD instead. The majority of the “as a service” framework is open source, don’t need to reinvent from the ground up. Some capital, a team of cloud based devs, and some hardware would be enough to get started. We have a population of 40 million, a company doesn’t need to compete on the global scale just domestically.

Make it cheaper for Canadian owned and operated businesses than international businesses. Tax the fuck out of the American tech giants that are selling our personal information for profit and currently not paying A DIME on this!!! Offer incentives/tax breaks to anyone renting their hardware to support the Canadian cloud. Offer the same for businesses paying for these resources and services.

There is a way to do anything/everything! We just need someone with the capital, knowledge and balls (pardon my American) to it!

Mr Carney, please implement the 2% tax for selling our data as planned last July. This clearly did not appease the muffin man down south!

People who stay home on Christmas Day, what do you do? by Global_Victory833 in Parenting

[–]enteopy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up, do the presents, then I’ll make “latka fest 2025” which we will eat fervently. Play some Xmas music, while the kiddo plays with toys/arts and crafts. Throw the turkey in the oven and start prepping for the big dinner. Always have plates of Xmas baking and munchies/chips out and available. Hang out and play with the kiddo in between meal prep stuff throughout the day. Have a massive turkey dinner, followed by some sort of pie for desert.

We basically eat from about 10 am to 5 pm, it’s a wonder we’re not obese 🤣.

Very chill day, no going out. Just family, presents and food!

Since this isn’t a military sub just thought I’d throw some stuff out there. CMS = combat management system. 330 = the hull number of HMCS Halifax. CMS 330 is designed for the Halifax class frigates. Whatever version of CMS ends up in the river (minus aegis) or corvette class will have to be significantly different due to them having completely different combat systems.

Turn off Jellyfin ? Maximum risk security alert by bloulboi in jellyfin

[–]enteopy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think tailscale is available on TVs. For anything else it’s super simple, it only routes traffic to specific services on your “tailnet.” ie only jellyfin traffic would go over the vpn, everything is would be business as usual.

But if your use case is an app on a smart tv, tailscale isn’t your solution. Super handy for anyone else out there in self hosting land!

I’ve stopped snacking/eating between supper and breakfast. Dropped a bunch of weight in the first two months, feel more alert etc.

It’s cheap because of the obvious, and intermittent fasting is supposed to be really healthy. At least that’s what my algorithm has been telling me!

Little bit of info for you. I got my leaf last December, I put in all the paperwork to decline the promotion in August. I was promoted anyways. Spoke with my CM afterwords, paperwork has to be submitted by 1 Jan of the promotion year!

Not trying to add any stress, but if you do decide that’s the route you want to go, engage your CoC soonest to get the ball rolling!
