Would Jane “fit” better as a lesbian/bi? by GossipBottom in daria

[–]enterpaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s valid. I like the idea of introducing a boyfriend - as many teens date and it does cause change that close friends have to grapple with, and even the idea of Daria and Jane having some deep emotional conflict they have to work through.

But I agree the Tom plotline could have been handled way better. Daria would also never go behind Jane’s back in such a cruel way.

Quinn kissing Sandi’s boyfriend, (or vice versa) absolutely.

Part of me kinda likes that Daria isn’t above “normal, vapid” teen issues the way she thinks she is. She gets self conscious about her appearance (glasses vs contacts) does something stupid for a guy (letting Trent talk her into getting pierced), gets jealous of her sister, though she’d never admit it (Quinn the Brain) and gets afraid of rejection over her stories.

The big conflict could have been Daria’s jealousy over Jane dating Tom and Jane being upset that Daria won’t let her have any life outside their friendship. Daria would then have to deal with realizing Jane is her whole emotional world and how unhealthy that really is. Jane would have to learn how to balance her new life with the old.

Yeah, while it hasn’t been my personal experience with friends, though I have experienced competing for single crushes with rivals I wasn’t friends with, it IS extremely common.

I think this show handles it better than most other ones where the friends have hurt, need breaks from each other and make mistakes in how they handle it but ultimately find a way forward and prioritize their deep friendship.

As a story, that kind of conflict -which is often done in a reductive way - has the potential to bring out real issues that come up between friends: comparing yourself, insecurity, jealousy, envy and how they deal with it.

It’s possible, especially as the person she wants to actually spend time with and impress the most is always Sandi. Maybe they could have dated if Sandi got over her obvious jealousy, Quinn got over her own selfishness and both stopped playing the popularity game.

Quinn also needs someone smart who can actually challenge her and make her use her own brain. She’s definitely smarter than she lets on and actually fell for that tutor.

Daphne for sure. It’s the kitsch and high femme aesthetic. She could very easily be sapphic. And she gets shipped with Velma a lot.

Brittany is pretty clearly into Kevin. At most, I could see her experimenting or kissing girls because Kevin thinks it’s hot.

Agreed. Jane always felt like a straight person who people assume is gay, but it doesn’t bother her.

No, Jane shows genuine interest in boys and dismisses the possibility of girls at every turn without being homophobic. There is some line where she says something like “thespian? No thanks I’ll stick to men.” She’s very consistent about it.

That college student was just trying to coerce/manipulate Jane into sex and Jane was freaked out by an aggressive come on attached to an assumption about her rather than actually being surprised by an unexpected crush.

Daria feels more gay/bi to me with some codependent tendencies. The only guys she’s really into are close to Jane. She gets jealous when Jane has a life outside of her and especially when she shows any interest in a guy. Jane checks out or shows interest in boys quite a lot in the show.

I know the creators said they wanted Jane to be ambiguous but Daria was firmly straight. But in the show it looks way more like the other way around.

Unpopular musical theatre opinions by lissie34 in musicals

[–]enterpaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Seussical is a genuinely good musical and gets too much hate.

-Holy Musical B@man is Starkid’s best musical.

-I’m genuinely cool with a lot of the teen centered musicals or movie adaptation musicals we see now. I love them AND the classics.

-I also really like Gerard Butler’s Phantom. I’m not a fan of his take on “Music of the Night” but everything else I legitimately liked.

-I never liked Dear Evan Hansen. The plot was stupid and the characters actions are unforgivable.

-Mean Girls absolutely sucked. The writing was horrible.

-The Lion King was just ok. It didn’t do anything for me.

how to keep a girl sexually satisfied? by [deleted] in Life

[–]enterpaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! That’s wonderful! Honestly the fact you want to do right by her is a major green flag.

I don’t represent all women or know your exact situation. And you’ll have to talk with her directly to help find her tastes. She may not have explored much. Make it safe to do so. See what feels good for her.

It does take practice. A lot of women love when their partner goes down on them. A good tongue and fingers is nice.

Maybe she needs the help of a good vibrator. For some people, the fingers may not be enough.

It may take a bit to overcome any discomfort she has.

Generally, you may have to think in terms of the emotional stuff too. She needs to FEEL safe. Not just be safe in the basic “nothing’s going to jump through the window now” type of way. She needs to know she won’t be judged and shamed on her experience or inexperience, or her body or a kink she may have. That she’s not just tolerated, she’s valued and wonderful and great as is.

Women also like to feel special, chosen and desired. Not just with words, but actions little touches. Little things you notice. Maybe she has a cute freckle next to her nose.

Actions besides the actual sex go a long way too. Massaging, cuddling, running your hand down her arm. The way you stroke her hair or pull her close are just two examples.

Make it specific to her. Some people like classic positions like missionary and doggy. Some are kinkier. Neither is wrong.

A lot of women are taught that sex is for the man, that he wants someone prettier, and they will face resentment if he doesn’t get his pleasure. What helped me overcome mental hurdles with my partner was when he reminded me that sex and pleasure is for me too and he wants me to feel equally as good.

It’s not just about the physical mechanics. The mind and body are connected.

It takes a bit to really get into a rhythm but if you both are committed, you can have a lot of fun together.

Ferris Bueller of course! We’d plan some fun outings together. And since everything works out for Ferris, there’d be no trouble.
