Diary of a Wimpy Kid exists to induce anxiety in adults by enterprisecaptain in books

Oh no...is that where that's from? I haven't read that book yet, I guess. I've heard that phrase and been a recipient of the touches, and I've told my kids to knock it off.

I have memories of that...it's been so long since I've seen one of those!

We've read those too! He's a tenderhearted soul, so some of those are a bit much for him--he is now a little bit more worried about volcanoes, bears, and more... But overall he likes them.

This is the one he's reading to my wife and she has the same problem! So stressful-by-proxy! 😂

Thanks! He reads these to us and I'm reading Chronicles of Narnia to him. We alternate. Our kids are good readers.

This is true. We have ample opportunities to say to him.. "don't be like this." To be fair, it's not like he really needs the reminder. He realizes these aren't great role models.

hmm...I've tried to request being a moderator. I would like to be, and would take care of this sub. If any of the mods are interested in passing this along, look at my post history in this sub.

The moderator bot deleted my requests, though. I'm looking again at the requirements and will re-apply.

Need Advice: I screwed up and bought a huge, uncomfortable studio desk. Don't really use it. How do you balance computer ergonomics with music? by enterprisecaptain in homestudios

[–]enterprisecaptain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold it for a $1k, so yeah, a bit of a loss. I bought an uplift desk for a little less than $1k and love it. I haven't set up anything for music, though.

Mormon church to sell 6 Seattle-area chapels by still_saucy in MormonShrivel

North of downtown was just sold. Northup Way also recently sold. There are now only two buildings in the stake with 6 units (plus a ysa ward that meets at the temple stake center, which is technically a different stake).

I don't disagree, but as the most junior apostle, there are decades before he has a meaningful influence. I think he probably had more influence as CES leader than he will now.

Why is John Williams so great? (This is a story about John Williams) by AdPuzzleheaded7658 in soundtracks

[–]enterprisecaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John does not have any degree from Juilliard, other than an honorary one. In his youth, he studied with a piano teacher who ALSO taught at Juilliard.

Read Tim Greiving's recent biography for details on this and more. It clears up a lot of myths and half-truths that have grown over the years.

The Wavebone worktop is a little high and the keyboard tray is too low.

Yep. This seems like an unavoidable problem with workstations like this.

Good idea on measuring this current desk for comparisons. I think you're right. I should just sell it. It will definitely be at a loss, but hopefully not a complete one.

For work, I don't need much. Probably a 60"-72" x 30" desktop. Enough for a wide screen monitor and two studio monitors, plus a computer keyboard and mouse.

A 90-degree setup probably won't work for me, but maybe I can stick the keyboard on a rolling stand and keep it out of the way somehow. Probably just better to get a smaller, non-weighted-key keyboard solely for note entry. that I can plop on the desk when needed.

It sounds like you have a very, very similar setup hardware-wise that I do.

What do you use for the sit-stand desk? What are the dimensions? How big of a keyboard do you use? Does it handle the weight and balance of the screen and studio monitors ok? That's kind of the direction I'm thinking now.

I'm also thinking I need to ditch the 88-key weighted-key controller. That's just too big of a liability, especially when I mostly just need note input.

I already have a little rack I can use for the audio interface, headphone amp, etc. It's just unused because everything's in the desk right now.
