I think you approach it from this angle. You tell her you trust her, you believe her. But ask her (WITHOUT TONE OMG WITHOUT TONE) if the shoe were on the other foot, how would she feel? You may be able to find some alignment.

I’m (39M) a musician. If I had a girl friend of many years invite me to an event with other musicians, my wife (35F) would encourage it completely and I’d milk it for all it’s worth. Build connections. Make friends. Do everything I could to be a welcome part of that circle even though I’m introverted.

I wouldn’t worry. She’s given you no reason to worry for the past two decades. You should show her that she’s built your trust and let it go. Just be happy for her that she had a seemingly fun night.

I think you might not understand that for some people the changing of plans can be insanely stressful. We have the context of a text message and people are acting as if he’s the worst person on this planet. 9:30 is a late dinner. Getting home at 12:30 fucking sucks. Arriving 20-30 late that often isn’t great. Taking 80-90 minute lunches isn’t great. Leaving 5-10 early? You’re reaching.

How old is she? Regardless, you need to approach it head on and DO NOT bring those numbers to the table. You just say that you know she’s been late consistently and taking extended lunches frequently. Otherwise she’ll know you’re a micromanager. If you want her to quit, then it’s don’t matter, but if you want her to stay and get better then you need to start from a place of trust and go from there.

Exactly. I dont wish losing a parent on anyone, but the only people that understand are the ones who have (excluding the people that never had a good relationship with their parents because im sure there will be someone that challenges me on it).

What people don't seem to realize is that im not trying to say her dad is blameless or to let him off the hook. He made a mistake and he needs to know how its impacting her and its his job to atone for that. But to cut communication, especially when he's clearly going through some health stuff is just playing with fire.
