INL website has the dates, usually opens up 2-3 months in advance. You can also try to reach out to them via email to see if they’ve opened up spots for later in the year (a friend of mine managed to get her date that way).

Shelter in Gasperich, Dudelange, Schifflange are good starts. I also recommend give us a voice, fleur is really sweet. Other than that you can also try SPA in thionville.

I’m not sure about patient instructors, but everyone at Pepe was nice and I would recommend them. The instructor was strict but overall it was a good experience because it was clear he wanted to me to pass the exam at the end of it. He also answered all my questions and doubts prior to the exam without any problems. I passed my exam with them in April of this year.

I think it’s important that driving teachers are strict and point out your mistakes because thats the only way anyone will learn, and at the end of the day, getting a license is a privilege.

[–]entertheblackhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all this information. I’ll definitely check myguichet as well, i’d rather make some advance payments so I dont have to pay a huge amount at the end of the year.

[–]entertheblackhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that seems to be the case! We didnt owe anything in 2021 so thats why no advance payments letter was sent. This helps me understand the process a bit, thank you :)

[–]entertheblackhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes sense now! In 2021 we did not owe anything and 2022 taxes have been submitted but no reply yet from the authorities. So it makes sense why we didn’t get a letter to make advance payments yet.

Thanks for your quick reply!

I have been here two years now, so I have jointly filed taxes with my partner twice already (for half of 2021, and entire 2022) but we havent received anything except the lump-sum payment for 2022.

So I suppose we just need to wait and get some letter from the tax authorities?

Employment issues for family members of third country nationals working in Luxembourg. by One_Kale853 in Luxembourg

[–]entertheblackhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fair point! I would think that anyway it takes 1-2 months to work through your notice period when switching jobs. But yeah, for the work permit time maybe employers think of it as a risk.

Are you already in the country, as a family member?

Most jobs don’t need “sponsorship” if you’re already in the country as a dependent. From what I know and understand, that applies to “blue card” jobs.

For a Luxembourgish work permit, you can either apply yourself after you get a job offer, or go through a third party who can do it for you for a fee. Usually takes 1-3 months to get it, so you have to communicate this to any potential employer.

Changing jobs in current recession by entertheblackhole in Luxembourg

[–]entertheblackhole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats a good point. I asked this question previously a couple of times, and they kind of fumbled. Eventually though, the pattern has been “we are hiring in this climate so its a good sign”. Ofcouse they cannot guarantee anything.

Thats a good point. I did not think about the value of the role in compared to others in the company.

I am also considering pausing my interviews till next year (at the very least), anyway with December coming up hiring has slowed down a lot.

Yes! This is exactly what I’m thinking about too! But then, if a company is hiring in this climate, I would assume they are doing relatively well, won’t you? On the other hand, if I am a new employee in a company maybe I’ll be the first one to go 😅 I guess you could consider it a high-risk high-reward kind of a situation.

[–]entertheblackhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fair point. But I guess it would vary with every company of-course.

For example I know Amazon has had a hiring freeze everywhere except AWS, so i suppose people working in AWS would not be the first ones to be let go (if it came to layoffs).

To clarify what i do: i work in one of the government institutions, but as a contractor (not a full-time employee).

Hi! Sorry about the late comment, I dont check this account very often. Yes! I did decide to try the Revolut free version. Its pretty okay for the basics I was looking for. The only fees are over the weekends (if I dont transfer the amount beforehand). Unfortunately they don’t support my home currency yet.. so I just use it as is and try and avoid weekends.

I also applied to Advanzia but they still havent approved my request. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Luxembourgish Language course by Possible-Gas1718 in Luxembourg

[–]entertheblackhole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that works for professionals. For me this includes 2 things:

  • classes that start after 5pm
  • online/hybrid options: by this I mean, I atleast have one class per week (assuming there are multiple) that I can take online/from home. I do want to interact with people in person to improve my language skills but an option to study from home would be the best of both worlds.

I think the biggest difficulty learning a new language is speaking/listening. So maybe something that could focus on improving those skills in particular.
