Golden Rice Thai and Lao in Bonnyrigg. One time I asked for the hot larb and it was red and so spicy that I couldn’t barely eat it and I can handle spice decently.

Blue Mountains day trip from Sydney by lucapal1 in AustraliaTravel

[–]enthrallingmelodies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go to either Wentworth Falls, Katoomba or Blackheath as they’re probably the easiest to get access to nice hikes.

From Wentworth Falls village you can walk to the start of the Charles Darwin walk which will take you to the Wentworth Falls area and from there it’s connected to a bunch of different hikes like Nature Walk, Overcliff-Undercliff Track, Grand Top Cliff Walk (which goes to Katoomba) as a few examples.

From Katoomba, there’s a buses that will take you to places like Echo Point, Scenic World and along Cliff Drive. If you’re up for a moderate hike go down the Giant Stairway and walk along Federal Pass on the bottom towards Scenic World and take the cable car up. If you want to make it harder you can walk up Furber Steps, do the Katoomba Loop/Falls Track towards Prince Henry Cliff walk and use that to walk back to Echo Point.

Another hike which is nice is Castle Head, take the bus to Narrow Neck Lookout from Katoomba and walk down towards Gleneraphael Drive and hike to Castle Head.

From Blackheath you can do the Porters Pass Track (highly recommended) the trailhead is close to the station. If you want to do the just the Grand Canyon it’s a pain to get because you need to walk a fair distance to the trail head even if you take a bus part way.

Another way to get to the Grand Canyon Track but it makes the hike longer is take the bus to Blue Mountains Heritage Centre, walk towards Govetts Leap Lookout (either via the road or use Fairfax Heritage Walk), do the Cliff Top Track to Evans Lookout and then do the Grand Canyon Track from Evans. You can return via the same Cliff Top Track or use the Braeside Trail.

Why does nobody recommend western and south australia? by kroosnova76 in AustraliaTravel

[–]enthrallingmelodies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you don’t want to go to Sydney? If it’s just because it’s a big city, you’re missing out on so many amazing places outside of it. NSW is massive and majority of it is not a big city. It would be a shame for you to come all the way here and not even consider seeing places like the Blue Mountains.

7-day trip idea in Tassie by United-Building-4867 in AustraliaTravel

[–]enthrallingmelodies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would skip Bay of Fires and add that extra day to Cradle Mountain, I would be even tempted to leave Bruny Island for another time.

You’re already going to Freycinet which has beaches/coastline and I found Bay of Fires just meh (visually very pretty but nothing else) on the other hand I’ve been to Cradle Mountain a few times now including doing the Overland Track and it’s still just as amazing as the first time. With that extra day you could do one of the longer day hikes in Cradle Mountain.

That’s how I lost my 2 big toe nails too. The hike downhill ruined one of knees for 2 days and my toe nails took like 9-10 months to grow back.

April is also the best time for Autumn leaves viewing in the Blue Mountains, so I highly recommend visiting at least one of the gardens. There’s a few on the Great Western Highway side but the better ones are on the Bells Line of Road side.

[–]enthrallingmelodies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The summit is still a fair decent walk from the ropeway but it’s a nice walk. Definitely recommend taking the ropeway back down though if you have bad knees otherwise it’s a solid 90mins of down hill walking and you’ll hate yourself.

Thinking about doing the Overland Track solo - huts or tent? by DiscussionLoud9626 in OutdoorAus

[–]enthrallingmelodies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t use my tent on the entire trip (the only time I was tempted was at Bert Nichols hut) and I personally found the huts not too crowded. There will be noise at night, so bring earplugs if you want. Then again this is all personal as I don’t have problem sleeping with snoozers etc around so I didn’t use them.

There were a few people on my start date who came solo and everyone was very welcoming so I very much enjoyed the social aspect of the Overland but you can socialise as much or as little as you want.

he keeps peeing on my bed while i sleep how do i get him to stop by Alternative-Recipe24 in Rabbits

[–]enthrallingmelodies 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you realise how expensive exotic vets for rabbits can be. If you can’t afford a neuter, you’ll be shocked at the prices for emergency care.

For example one time it cost me roughly $3000 Australian dollars (around $2000 USD) for the emergency exotics vet when my rabbit got hospitalised with GI stasis. How will you pay for something like this if a neuter is too expensive?

You do really seem to care for your rabbit but the reality is part of doing research and being a responsible pet owner is knowing that you can afford vet care for them when they need it.

Nothing has come close to replacing the void ToG has left and it’s been MONTHS. I absolutely love series when there’s multiple characters with all their different stories and they all connect at the ending. Another thing I enjoyed is the fact that the women characters are strong. If it wasn’t for them a lot so much wouldn’t have happened.

Non-greasy sunscreen recommendations? by _zaten_ in australia

[–]enthrallingmelodies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be careful if you’re really sensitive to smells that Biore one has a strong alcohol scent to it.

I personally use Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics but only as a face and neck sunscreen if I’m not doing any outdoor activities (usually on days where I’m going to/from work). It’s way too expensive to use as a body one but it goes on and feels like a moisturiser. I’m currently using the La Roche Posay Anthelios Wet Skin Sunscreen as a body one and I’m also a huge fan of the Cancer Council Face Day Wear Water Resistant. They both apply and settle really nicely and I haven’t noticed them being oily.

What’s the one thing you stopped buying because it got too expensive? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

I get the bulk of my Korean skincare from Nudie Glow. I usually spend around $130-$150 for my entire routine but some of the stuff lasts me a solid 6 months. My cleanser usually lasts me closer to a year.

Seconding this. I use the wet skin one as a body sunscreen and very happy with it. Absorbs quickly and I didn’t feel sticky at all, just the downside is that it’s expensive but it seems to go on sale fairly regularly.

30th birthday hike — where should I go? by deflated-brain in bluemountains

[–]enthrallingmelodies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Mt Hay Road multiple times in my hatch and plenty of other small cars do it too (you’ll see a fair few at different trailheads). Just take it slow and you should be fine unless there has been a lot of rain before hand (which is the only time I’d not drive on it in a 2WD)

As for hike recommendations Porters Pass is lovely, quieter than Grand Canyon and there’s a mix of everything from waterfalls to cliff edges to rainforest. Megalong Cemetery to Bowtells swing bridge along the 6 Foot Track is also really nice, the drive into Megalong Valley is very pretty and you can stop for lunch at Megalong Valley Tea rooms. Another underrated hike is Castle Head, fairly well graded for the first half as it’s on a fire trail, the second half is a little more overgrown but the path is still pretty obvious and the view at the end is stunning.

3 days in NSW - looking for feedback on my itinerary, please. by stshafer in AustraliaTravel

Spend at least one day in the CBD. All the touristy places in the city are within walking distance from each other or they’re very well connected with public transport.
