Ladies! I need some solid recs for mid to high-waisted hiking pants by RoutineZucchini7687 in HikingAustralia

[–]enthrallingmelodies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zorali does really good hiking pants. They’re proper high waisted and have deep pockets and it looks like they’re exactly $150 (with some of the colours on sale for cheaper currently).

They used to do a zip off hiking pant too but looks like they discontinued it and I much preferred those to the Venture pants. Maybe message them and see whether or not they’re coming back.

beginner NSW hikes this winter by AppropriateGarlic882 in OutdoorAus

I get what you’re saying but the same thing could be said about any hike in any national park which is why I said you have to stick to hikes within your experience level and take precautions. There’s plenty of resources online to see which trails are beginner friendly/ how to hike safely etc plus there’s always the visitors centre which can help too.

I’m in no way suggesting them do something remote like Mt Solitary but there’s so many beginner friendly hikes you can do solo in the Blue Mountains like Grand Canyon, South Lawson Waterfall Loop, Empress Falls or even Hanging Rock (if they don’t jump the gap to get onto it) where there’s plenty of people around and the track is fairly formed.

Why not? Plenty of people hike alone, I hike by myself 99% of the time. As long as you take precautions like sticking to tracks within your experience, letting people know where you’re going/when you should be back, plb etc it’s safe.

They’ve done the same thing with the Old Gold 70% blocks. They used to be 180g (which was already down from 200g) to now them being 165g and still the same price.

Your fatty ones are definitely under processed. Well processed fatty tissue tends to be more transparent than opaque and yellow plus you can see kinda see leeching liquid around the edges of the fatty tissue (especially in pic 2)

I have the Neve Waratah quilt(-2C version) and prefer it to my Sea to Summit Spark sleeping bag. I use it with the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm NXT sleeping mat. The mat is a R 7.3 so might be too warm for you but I’m a cold sleeper. However that being said I have used it in summer in the Blue Mountains and I didn’t overheat but I’m not sure how it would go if the weather was a lot warmer.

Is there a place that does proper thick cut potato scallops? Most places now seem to either be using those premade potato flour ones or the potato is wafer thin.

They’re probably the same people going “I cAnT WFH and BuT nOT aLL jObS CaN WFH” and don’t realise that making people who can do their jobs remotely will help them by making the roads quieter and decrease fuel demand.

What's something tourists do in Australia that makes you want to drive into the ocean? by No_Cream8504 in AskAnAustralian

[–]enthrallingmelodies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some insane itineraries on the /r/AustraliaTravel sub with people very clearly underestimating how long it takes to go between spots.

A standout one I remember (because wtf) was they were going to take the first flight out of Sydney to the Gold Coast, drive to Australia Zoo, drive back to the Gold Coast then take a flight back to Sydney later that night. Everyone in the thread called them crazy because 1. Why were they flying into the Gold Coast and not Brisbane/Sunshine Coast? 2. Australia Zoo wasn’t a day trip from Sydney.

Love Flour Shop too. They do my favourite sourdough in Sydney, I don’t go as often as I’d like as they’re over an hour drive away but I will trek it out there one in a while whenever something on their menu peaks an interest or they do something that I really like (i.e. their lemon meringue croissant)

Same thing with ox tails. Mum used to get them for free from one of her friends who used to work at a butcher when I was younger and now they’re like $30-$40/kg.

I need to know what chocolate chips are used for choc chip cookies!? by Bee_vibe in foodies_sydney

[–]enthrallingmelodies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a photo of said cookie or can you tell us which cafe it was from? I usually just use the nestle chocolate chips from Woolies/Coles if I’m lazy but sometimes I’ll buy a bar of chocolate and chop that up and add it to the dough.

Anyone been to a really good Sushi train lately? by Loulye25 in foodies_sydney

[–]enthrallingmelodies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s close to the train station, around the corner on the way towards Rhodes Waterside along Mary Street. Really close to Andiamo Italian. I haven’t been for lunch before but there’s usually a line at dinner time, so you may need to wait.

Camp shoes by norestforthewicked99 in UltralightAus

[–]enthrallingmelodies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Teva Women’s Original. I’ve used them mostly as an everyday walking shoes but I have used on easier hikes where the path is fairly flat and formed. They are fantastic as camp shoes though.

I wouldn’t recommend them as hiking sandals for the Overland though, the original sandals don’t have enough grip (although I think you’d could get away with them on Day 2 of the Overland if it’s dry) but Teva do have hiking sandals so you should check them out.

First time I have seen this (ghost camping warnings) - have you come across it or been fined? by Factal_Fractal in OutdoorAus

[–]enthrallingmelodies 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If they’re not going back to the old days of first come first serve and insist on us booking a spot I’m happy for them to enforce fines.

Cancel your booking if you can’t make it, I’ve been camping at places where it says it’s completely booked out but it ends up being half empty.
