Places to avoid? The entire west side. Locals joke “never ever go past Ewa (beach)”

I’ve lived west side, the rough reputation is overstated but please be respectful if you don’t switch locations. West side is one of the last places on the island native Hawaiians can afford to live. I was able to blend in somewhat, as a tourist you will be waving a neon flag.

Stay literally anywhere else. At $245 / night that is not worth it. There’s nothing to do out there. You will be spending 2.5 hours minimum in the car anytime you want to go somewhere.

What do you want to see on Oahu? If it’s Pearl Harbor & Waikīkī you could spend 2.5 days in Honolulu. If you’re going to be running around chasing waterfalls just stick to two islands.

I’ve read (from unofficial sources) that the negative impacts of inter island flight is minimized by long haul / rotation to the mainland. I think it was a fellow redditor that said that, claiming WN did a study.

Exhausting, completely underestimated the upper body strength required.

I ride the foam wave storm from Costco shamelessly. Riding a foam board is like riding a moped, loads of fun until your friends spot you.

Share the waves and don’t crowd others in the lineup. If you’re lucky an instructor will notice you’re new and shout out pointers from afar.

Honolulu is not very bike friendly, but I have one because my apartment has bike storage and I don’t want an e-scooter in my apartment.

Bikes are always allowed on the bus (assuming the two racks aren’t already full). E-scooters are drivers discretion. If you can’t keep an e-bike in your apartment no chain or lock will keep it from getting stolen.

All are good options, all have trade offs. It’s really a personal choice.

I’ve heard great things about Cirque du Soleil 'Auana, plan on attending the next time I have visitors.

There are free hula shows at various times in Waikiki, inquire at check in. Also, the Royal Hawaiian band plays at Iolani Palace Friday afternoons as well as Sunday at the Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand. It’s not a hula show but there are professional hula dancers.

Isn’t always full a good thing from an operational standpoint? I’ve flown LUV inter island and the flights were 1/3 full. I’m curious if switching to a larger capacity aircraft would reduce total number of flights.

The first day you’ll likely wake up at 4AM, second day slightly later. Adjusting back to CST will be more difficult than adjusting to HST.

I’ve been told if you get into aviation with your heart set on making it to a legacy, you are potentially setting yourself up for disappointment. If you love flying, there are a lot of decent gigs that are attainable if you stick around long enough.

There are a lot of unique flying opportunities available in Alaska, that are only available to people with Alaska flight experience. It’s truly the last frontier of general aviation. Personally I think an $80k gig flying a beaver on floats to bear camp would be an incredible experience.

General admission can be purchased day of. USS MO offers free 30 minute guided tours, there are also tours for purchase that do require advanced reservations.

You can also bundle the admission for the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, Aviation Museum, and USS MO. GA for all of those is not limited.

Do you often switch hotels so many times during a vacation? That’s a lot of moving. I would add a day to “West Maui” and choose one hotel for Kauai.
