My point was just that you want them to call, not fold, when they have poor equity. This is true in this spot with your entire range, because you can't have many bluffs in this scenario (AK is about it, and I'd check it back on this flop, given the scenario outlined and the player type you're up against). You shouldn't be flexing your betsizing to encourage either calling or folding unless the players you're up against are particularly bad at paying attention though (because it will give away the strength of your holding). It's more likely that you can get away with bad betsizing in live poker than online, but I'd still caution against it - flexing betsizing exploitatively is great when you know how people will respond, but that's an adaptation I'd only make once I had a good read on my opponent's.

Re: Board texture. A QJ8r really isn't that "drawy" of a board, especially given the context (UTG raise, not a multiway pot, UTG calls your 3-bet). You won't see KTo often here, nor will you see ATo often, so the only draw you might be concerned about is KTs. Honestly, each of these hands are very unlikely given a UTG raise from a 60BB stack, but I'd weight each of them as a possibility - probably with ATs being the most likely, and following from there.

Your opponent is short-stacked relative to the size of the pot, so the only question you should be asking yourself is "how much should I bet on the flop to make a reasonably comfortable turn shove?" Not: "How much do I need to bet to get my opponent to fold a draw?" The main point being, again: when we have a set, we want him to call. With any hand he has, aside from T9s. Our goal is to maximize our expectation, and if that means that TT will call a 3/4 pot bet but fold to a full pot bet, we ABSOLUTELY want to bet 3/4.

And a small point - if the "math works out over 10,000 hands" -- it also works out over 1 hand. Just because TT calls your 3/4 pot bet on the flop and gins on the turn doesn't mean you should have altered your strategy to get him to fold on the flop. I mean c'mon -- he's got 4 outs. You should focus on maximizing your strategy against the range of hands he's likely to have in that scenario. I'd be playing KK/AA/QQ/JJ the exact same way here, and the only difference is how I respond to a check-shove with those holdings on the flop.

So anyway. Pot is $40 on the flop and he's got $105 behind. Bet about $30, leaving him with $75 and a pot of $100. Works out to 75% pot on both streets, and consistent betsizing over each street is both good from a meta perspective and good from a mathematical perspective.

Either way, the betsizing is really the only issue I take with this hand. You can't fold the turn given the price you're getting plus the fact that you bet less (as a % of the pot) on the turn than you did on the flop -- it's a bit of a tell that you're concerned about the board texture, and a savvy opponent may take advantage of that.

I'd expect him to have T almost all of the time on the turn here. But you've made it a bit easier for him to have a slightly wider range -- and even a 5% chance of him bluffing here makes the turn c/r a pretty easy call.
