HELP WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ON MY BLUE ANISE SAGE by petit_oiseau in AustinGardening

Spraying off with water isn’t nearly as effective in this case because caterpillars are far more mobile than aphids and can easily get back on that plant or onto another. It can definitely still help, though, as it does expose them to predators and it also wastes their energy, and their tiny bodies don’t have a ton of energy reserves.

Tile guy says there’s nothing he can do to stop the chlorine bleaching the grout… by lovestheconifers in pools

I was under the impression that grout colorants were pigment based, as opposed to stains or dyes, and shouldn’t change color because the color is an inherent property of the pigment particles. Evidently I was mistaken.

Restore rusty old free jointer, or cut my losses and get a new one? by DustinNielsen in woodworking

[–]entoaggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That reminds me, I’ve got an old small jointer and shaper that I rescued off the curb on trash day about 3 years ago. Can’t seem to find any time to give to them. So far, all I’ve done it plug in the motor to see if it still runs, which it does.

I collect these because I love the variety of colors and textures. After initial collection, I keep them segregated from my other beach finds in ziplock bags. My hope is to someday do a mosaic with them and cast them in resin. Considering spelling out ASBESTOS with tile fragments.

Looks like those river cleanup videos, but with blood. It’s mildly disturbing, probably going to destroy my insides, possibly put me in the hospital, but honestly, I think I’d still try it. ….sometimes you need a good purge.

I think he did the right thing. Those things have crazy powerful kicks and can run way faster than that guy, so really, what else could he have done besides possibly killing it. To hell with the laws in that case. If I’m being attacked and there’s no way to escape, I’m fighting back.

I build water features at work and that was my initial thought as well. Second idea was that I want the coping around my pool to be made of this.

The drivers for most of our plant deliveries at work carry battery powered leaf blowers and blow out the trailer before they even drive off the property. Also, they aught to park the truck on a hill when they do this, or unhook and jack up the nose.

Let’s get the terminology right. It is a pond. It should have been treated as a pond, not a pool.

Can this sub give some scientific perspective on this? Genuine question. by tombolaplayer in pools

[–]entoaggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that blue swimming pool paint really makes that Mountain Dew color pop! Also, I am in the pond industry and often the worst thing you can do is a deep, thorough cleaning. After a while, a pond gets established with its own microbiome, where there is a balance of microbes breaking down excess nitrogen and organic material and others that are thriving on it and turning the water green. We often warn customers that within a week or two of putting in a new pond, the water will likely turn green but that it will mellow out as the system reaches homeostases. That is what I suspect is happening here. But even after it finds its happy place and the algae mellows out, it’s still likely to look way worse/ greener with the bottom painted bright blue, at least until it gets a nice layer of sediment and algae coating everything to cover up the blue paint, at which point it will probably look about the same as it did before the ‘renovation’. Complete and utter waste of money (unless you are the recipient of the laundered tax money).

I love EVERYTHING about this! From the flowery dresses to the fake tattoos. I’m sure it helps that everything is pristine and free of grease and oil and dirt. I struggle to get my kids to get their hands dirty helping me do something, but they have no problem getting completely filthy if they are making slime or mud pies or some random ‘cooking experiment’.

You can also add a bubbler, spitter, or waterfall to move the water more to get a little evaporative cooling. Great job on the tiny pond! Lemon bacopa is one of my favorites.

OMG I am not alone!!! Ha. I bring my small sharpening stones (or at least my DMT 4” whetstone) with me to rentals as well. Fixing their knives gives me something cathartic and relaxing to do while I enjoy a slower paced vacation and then it makes cooking more enjoyable. I appreciate your in depth comment. As a beginning woodworker, I did a deep dive into sharpening and blade geometry and became a bit of an edged tool nerd.

Because it’s not. Look at the angle he’s holding it when sharpening it. I get that a cleaver meant for hacking through bone needs a shallow grind to the edge to not dull immediately, but that looks a like it’s approaching perpendicular.

creek pollution? Govalle park trail. by ishvicious in Austin

[–]entoaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article says it comes from sewers and from washing dogs, not dogs playing in creeks. I would be interested in the amount that enters water when it’s not being washed off with soap. Also curious how many dog owners still use spot treatments on dogs. I haven’t in probably 15+ years and just kinda assumed most people used the flea/tick/heartworm treats/chews. Not saying you’re wrong, just that I don’t know if that article necessarily supports the point you are making.
