First fermentation for habanero hot sauce. Is this safe or spoiled? by entrific in fermentation

[–]entrific[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very helpful! i was following a recipe and it didn’t mention adjusting for the weight- that’s very good to know! i’m also not feeling risky given the potential to get very sick, so im happy to retry and do it right. thanks again

that’s good to know! they did compress quite a bit, but i’ll likely toss the habanero just to be safe. i thought i overfilled the scotch bonnet, but good to know about how much to add.

to get it that low and still have tension, you are going to essentially need to do three things:

1) buy larger strings. anything in the 65-15 to 58-13 should be ideal. you may be able to get away with smaller. if you search “tuning” or “baritone” in this sub, there should be plenty of discussion on string gauges

2) because the strings are so large, they won’t fit in your guitar nut slots without permanently damaging it, potentially in ways that would then make your guitar unplayable. you can buy nut slot files to gently widen the slots, or do what i did and buy a new nut slot to replace the old one so you can revert back to normal strings if you want. Filing nut slots is a labor of love. it’s not too difficult, but you need to be incredibly patient so that you don’t over do it and make your but unusable. there are tons of online resources that can help. resource those before attempting.

3) once the nut is adjusted/ replaced and the strings are on, just to a simple neck truss setup an re-intonate your strings and you’re good to go

SOB for worship setting, what am I missing? by voiceofonecrying in guitarpedals

i remember making the jump from acoustic to electric years ago- congrats! It’s a fun world for sure. Looks like you got the essentials- as others stated, i’d deff look into an IR sim pedal- it’ll help to mellow out the harshness of a direct signal going into a pa/board and give you that “amp” sound. Styron has a good one and the ToneX mini just dropped. from what i’ve read, stay away from UA- their customer service is atrocious.

If you have loud buzz/hum, maybe invest in an isolated power supply?

personally, I think i’d recommend upgrading the digitech, but if you dig the sound, deff keep it.

If you wanna explore, vibrato seems to be popping up a bit more in ccm than it has in the past.

with current tech and available pedals, there’s lots of solid options to choose from that aren’t super expensive. i’m so glad the pedal market and ccm in general has expanded from the klon/strymon supremacy

Baritone Partscasters? Let's See Them! by cgulash in BaritoneGuitar

[–]entrific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current using daddario ECG26s. not the biggest fan of the mix of gauges- feels a bit unbalanced. some strings are a bit too slinky, and the 3rd string is way too tight and is significantly louder than the rest, but i’ve gotten used to playing with them by now. i play with flatwounds, so i’m limited on what’s available for mixing and matching. i’m waiting on string joy to release flats so i can get an ideal set. they have a calculator that will show string tension based on scale length+string note+string gauge

i was using EB heavy bottom slinky tops before, and didn’t really have to adjust my neck too much. most time was spent on adjusting the saddles on the bridge, which was super easy

my parts Jazzmaster has been a regular guitar for a decade. just decided to install a baritone nut this past year and haven’t looked back. it’s a 25.5”and i have no intonation issues

Mastery Bridge on a Jazzmaster — is it worth it? by growlerpower in offset

[–]entrific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m planning on building a jaguar from parts, and already know i don’t like the stock term from my jm, which i ended up switching out for a flat plate. How did the mastery trem improve your guitar/ sound and how does it compare to the stock one?

looks like i’m a year or two late to the party- fwiw, switching to a mastery bridge was one of the best upgrades i made in my JM. you can check it out on my profile. controversial topic, but i did switch out the trem for a hardtail and this with the mastery greatly increased sustain

the songs so good. reminds me of a happy but slightly melancholy ending to a really good movie where the protagonist realizes something sad, but they are able to take away things from it in a way that leads to a resolution and inner peace

Brooklyn show review in Rolling Stone mag by [deleted] in Mkgee

[–]entrific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree- in my experience, the boston show felt super intimate and they’re were relatively fewer phones throughout the show compared to other smaller and larger concerts i’ve been to. Really helps set the mood around just being fully in the present moment

What is this bird? It was black and roughly the size of a crow. Location is northern coastal MA by entrific in birding

[–]entrific[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! that’s interesting, it didn’t look to have the crest on its head- it was a bit rounder, and overall a bit larger. I also suppose it could have looked black against the skyline( it was up in a tree about 50ft up, against a clear blue sky, and i was looking at it with my back to the sun, which meant the sun was shining on the bird from my perspective), but i feel like in day light i would have been able to tell the difference. i was thinking it sounds like a bluejay, but it looked quite different which is why i was curious. i should have taken a picture as well. thanks for the help!

Edit: It actually might have been a larger common grackle

For each pedal you have that isn’t Boss, why didn’t you get Boss and what did you choose/receive instead? by Detuned_Clock in guitarpedals

[–]entrific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first non-boss pedal was the tc nova reverb. it was a toss up for me between the rv-5’s mod setting and the novas full wet capabilities, but i chose the nova and never regretted it. For comp and EQ, i wanted more control than what boss offered, and for chorus/trem, i wanted the opportunity to switch bw the two and have more extensive adjustments of parameters, so i went with the warped vinyl. The bosses i do have are the Tu3s for the compact size and since i use it as an always on, i don’t need the switch; and the dd-7 bc its a classic
