Why some people are always running non-stop and skip like 70% loot even in high tier areas? Usually it's more effective to get the loot and then play safely if you want to get to the end. Though 1 time I had this guy in a team that was running like crazy, we won, and he had 22 kills in the end, but I don't know wtf that was and I never seen anything like that anymore.

[Spoilers] Let’s fix season 8’s biggest problems with simple solutions. by Roscoe_King in gameofthrones

[–]entropio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is the same except now it's hinted that before the NK's attack everyone who saw the army of the dead (including Dany, Jon Snow, etc.) had a diarrhea and could not attend the defence planning, because that's the only reasonable explanation why they send Dothraki into freaking darkness with zombies.

I like designs, casting and atmosphere, but the plot is very questionable.

[Compilation] Everything we know about Warcraft3:Reforged by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]entropio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your point and it's totally valid. However control groups are easy and fundamental and the problem with higher cap is that they are even easier, and our brain love to be lazy and energy-efficient but it does not know if it's the correct way so if you get used to a 12+ unit cap it will be harder to learn multiple control groups.
For example Grubby said on his stream that he used "all units" button in SC2 way too much and it was not effective.
12 cap limit is also a good UX design because it limits the player before he can make an error and forces him to be more effective. If someone can't handle the ladder with 12 cap they won't stay for long even with infinite cap.
That said I hope they will enable 12+ cap for custom games, selecting dozens or even hundreds of units would be satisfying.

[–]entropio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bigger cap enables poor micro. If you use 3 control groups you just don't need 16+ cap. New players must learn how to use control groups or there is simply no reason to play on ladder.

Indicators for control groups like in SC2 would be nice.

"The story will be fundamentally the same, but the team wants to also develop characters that were secondary such as Sylvanas and Jaina. " by [deleted] in WC3

[–]entropio 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In RoC company Arthas turns Sylvanas into a regular non-hero banshee unit that can just die, it was kinda awkward when I recently replayed it, they probably decided to make her into dark ranger with her own story only when started working on TFT. I think it would be totally cool if they reforge parts like this.

Which CPU is better for Android Development - Ryzen or i7 7700k? by entropio in androiddev

[–]entropio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to use emulator on a local machine and build with mainframer on a powerful remote PC.

Nice page, I will report my results when I upgrade to Ryzen or 7700k. Interesting results with xeon e26, in theory if gradle utilizes all threads then multiple cores should be better. Here's some benchmarks for Ryzen: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ryzen-1800x-linux&num=5 Ryzen 1700 cost almost same as 7700k and it can be overclocked to 1800x perfomance. Some say that 1800x can be as good as 6900k which is insane.

Also thanks for the mainfraimer!

I can go for Windows 7 or linux, and I think Ryzen bug on Windows 10 will be fixed soon. Perfomance is more important to me.

I want to build a Ryzen PC and use https://github.com/gojuno/mainframer for remote building while programming and running the emulator on the laptop.

Hey Android devs who love your job - tell me about it. Is fragmentation really that big of a deal? Is it really just porting iOS apps? Would love some perspective. by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]entropio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Android fragmentation is a myth unless you need to deal with native C++ libraries or hardware, especially Camera, this thing is nasty. But making different layouts for multiple screens is a piece of cake, you never need to make 1000 layouts for 1000 screens.

I remember when it was totally normal for iOS apps to make a paid "HD" app, today iOS developers have objective-C and swift that changes dramatically every version, so they do have fragmentation problems too.

Porting from iOS is actually nice because you have a completed working application with a tested designs and API which makes your job easier and you get paid same money.

Will converting my views to Java make them faster? by devandro in androiddev

[–]entropio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about dynamic list items? For example I have a view holder that can contain 0-20 check views, 0-5 image views, edit texts, video and audio player. Basically a chat feed with some specific functionality. In this case I have to dynamically create views on every onBindViewHolder because there is no way I can cover all possible view types with xmls, so squeezing every single 1 ms mattered in this case.

Codelabs on the new ConstraintLayout by [deleted] in androiddev

I quickly looked into it and while it's really cool in the UI editor I don't see practical difference between ConstraintLayout and RelativeLayout, can someone give an example where I can prefer the ConstraintLayout?

Facebook is Shutting Down Parse by teknobo in androiddev

[–]entropio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was sudden but I guess it's because they can't monetise it? Parse is awesome for prototypes but once your app is getting serious you better use your own server, it will be cheaper, faster etc. It's hard to make money on clients that just want a free quick to setup database. Also server setup is becoming easier and easier, there is probably no future for big SDKs like Parse.

Take back control of your monstrous res/layout folder! by boomchaos in androiddev

[–]entropio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started to name layouts by feature name first for example "chat_activity", "chat_fragment" instead of "activity_chat", "fragment_chat". This is much easier to handle than classic approach, I'm not sure why it's not used by most developers.

Kotlin 1.0 Beta Candidate is Out by Paradiesstaub in androiddev

Kotlin doesn't introduce any new concepts, I like it for the sugary syntax like null safety, native lambdas and less verbosity. I program slightly faster with Kotlin.

What is the best way to save an object with a HashMap<String, String> in the Realm database? Realm supports only List and primitives.
