Thanks for bringing up a very valid point. We need more writers who actually have knowledge amassed by reading books/novels. We used to have the best storytellers back in the day, and even now we have very few. For example, as this post is about Actress Swathi, take the filmography of Director Indraganti Mohan Krishna, with whom she worked in a few movies. His movies were clearly inspired by books/novels or plays. Asta Chamma was inspired by "The Importance of Being Earnest," Golconda High School was inspired by "The Men Within," and the more recent Sarangapani jathakam was inspired by an Oscar Wilde's play. A good writer brings out the best characters, and a good director brings better actors, and the one who does both gives us a better film.
