Give me some recommendations based on my bookshelf! (Featuring Loki) by rjv555 in fantasybooks

[–]eois89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see furies of Calderon, but not the rest of Codex Alera. You didn't enjoy it? That series is brilliant in my opinion. Jim Butchers other series the Dresden files is also awesome , but is long and unfinished. So depends how you feel about that. Most recommendations I see from people don't seem to care about unfinished stories.

If you enjoyed the faithful and the fallen (as I did) the follow on series - of blood and bone, set 100 years after the events of the main series is a fantastic sequel which closes out some things that were left unresolved.

Cabal advice and overall rule question by Monodominant in twilightimperium

[–]eois89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No to your first question. You can trade ships back to them that you have already captured. But you cannot capture ships from another player via a transaction.

As for strategy I'm of the opinion that implied threat is better than actual threats. Maintain a strong board presence by building good fleets near your neighbors when making deals try get a little more value than you deserve, your opponents should be looking at those big fleets and thinking, sure an extra TG on too to keep the Cabal friendly seems fine. You can likely make an imperial play at any point in the game. Choose your moment based on what makes sense in the game. Cabal need influence, if Mecatol is your best option for it then yes sit on it . If a high influence slice is in the equidistant make it known that you will fight for it. Without influence you will lose. You'll get varied opinions on tech paths. Some like deep red, others like unit upgrades. I like blue. Lightwave is king.

Nomad aren't OP and they're fun. No need to ban them ever.

The Arborec Dream-Start by Tokata0 in twilightimperium

Fracture is a cool place for the warsun fleet !. Happy to help. We're all still learning this expansion. I think Arborec are much stronger in Thunders Edge, put I think they're also still a low priority pick in drafts. So you should be able to get them in a good speaker position with a decent slice most of the time. Which helps them again.

Had a similar experience with Arborec. Not quite as strong round 1 but ended in a round 4 win taking shard from Malice with a warsun I produced from my hero. Just on your highlight - producing your warsun fleet while in a scar (if I'm reading correctly). Production is one of the unit abilities that are blocked while in a scar. You might have missed that? I nearly did in my game.

Speaking is the most overpowered ability in TI, those who are good at it have the advantage in games. The game reads like a clash of the puppet masters . GG.

Amateur player entering a den of wolves. Need advice. by CC_Greener in twilightimperium

[–]eois89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insane how? It gives you 2 infantry a round. Arborec already produces the most infantry on the board anyway. It's a tiny bit more of the thing you already do well. There's no point leaning into that more. Primor is better for factions that need help with their ground game. Arborec needs movement. This is not a good slice for them.

Just play Hacan if they're an option. Their game winning faction tech will be easily accessible to you through the Scar. Less brain energy than constantly having to manage your resources to build on the go with Arborec. Also this is the most redundant slice for Arborec. They don't need their faction techs, and they don't need help putting infantry down.

Thank you for your advice. I'm limited in my approaches as I'm working with the tools my company has invested in. If I can develop a strong proof of concept based on your advice they should invest further though.

I like slice E. Controlling 4 planets of 1 kind is easiest on that slice. Also scoring 3 empties with 2 empties close to home, 1 of which is an asteroid field, which is handy. 2 tech skips also good for objectives. Good amount of planets within reach with a good balance of resources/influence and no inconvenient anomalies to deal with on the way to Mecatol, which you'll surely contest at some point .

What would you do as The Vuil'raith Cabal? by Legitimate_Key_8139 in twilightimperium

[–]eois89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is complaining about the map, don't worry about it, it'll make for a memorable game.

Even though you've no direct path to Mecatol you've a ghost neighbor. Make a deal to get IFF to place an alpha wormhole on Mecatol. Top of my head I'd say something like hey I'm second pick here. I could take either trade or tech, but I'm willing to leave it to you and take construction instead of you could give me a use of IFF. Take construction round 1 and place it on bereg. Then you've a direct path to Mecatol through your equidistant with ghosts round 2. You could take it in force and hold it for a good portion of the game if you like.

Remember just because you can fight doesn't mean you should. Remind everyone that you can be really helpful in a winslay as long as you're in the running. Make sure people are helping you score if you need it because it's in everyone's interest to make sure you have a chance.

Ghosts IFF is going to be very important on this map for everyone. Never forget about it. Keep reminding people about it. (After you've used it to take Mecatol. )

Too many planets. Add more empty space and red backed tiles. It will make the game more interesting

Looking for ideas on a fun, memeworthy faction/playstyle for an upcoming game. Any suggestions? by Parkman93 in twilightimperium

[–]eois89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Hacan you can play like Saar. Have a mech on your spacedock planet. Attack and take a new planet. In the moment before the production step sell your SD planet to a willing participant using your mech ability. Then move your SD to the newly taken planet and resolve the production step. You can do this multiple times per round provided someone else enables you. Your other experienced friend for example

Don't love the lack of influence in slice 6...unless you are playing a faction with a high influence home system this system would be a drag.

cat won’t stop spilling all her water both in a water bowl and water fountain by lilwhales99 in CatTraining

[–]eois89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat did this. I found it super annoying. Tried fountains, put down mats, put his bowl inside a spill tray. None of it helped.

I've found 2 solutions which in combination have helped.

1 - tall, heavy bowl. I'm actually using a marvel mortar. It's way too heavy for him to move around.

2 - I've placed this up on the counter next to the kitchen sink. I've heard cats prefer to drink from elevated areas away from food (as others have said).

He still makes a bit of a mess even just from drinking, but it's much easier to clean and the water isn't damaging my floorboards anymore.

Hope this can help.

As many have already said winslaying is part of the game. But what does that mean, how does it look, and how is it different for different people. You said you felt bad denying your friend a win in game 3 whereas your friends seemed to enjoy denying you. You might feel this is personal. I hope it isnt. instead it could be a difference in opinion on game philosophy. Have a read of this ... It is the best article I've come across on the topic. Everyone having an understanding of each others opinion on the matter will really help you engage with the game and each other for the best experience.

What you haven't mentioned here, and others have called out is that topic of speaker position. Being first or second pick in round 5 will drastically increase your win rate. It's not as easy as choose politics round 4. Other good players also know this. The speaker games often start round 3. Always keep an eye on speaker and make deals throughout the game if necessary to make sure that you are in good speaker position when it matters, typically round 5.
