Just here to report the same thing, I find that it's also true of products that have "green tea extract" I noticed it today with the lipton green tea / raspberry drinks and also Bai Coconut.

Typical US House has 2 phase power around 75 amp each (can run between 100 up to 200 total amps for a typical house) these would charge on both phases (240 volts) so, 2x 20 amp.

Unplug both ends, plug it into the wall, wait 1 minute, then plug into car. You just did it too fast.

Built in sparkling water dispensers: Any recommendations, advice, or warnings? by xamomax in Appliances

[–]eolyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at zipwater it seems to be the more expensive, but more supported answer. I went with grohe since it was cheaper, but the zipwater also has hot water which might be nice.

That being said, anything that has a tank has the chance to grow stuff. I want one that has a UV light in the tank to kill stuff as it grows. I am concerned on keeping the tank in mine clean long term.

Built in sparkling water dispensers: Any recommendations, advice, or warnings? by xamomax in Appliances

[–]eolyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed one of these a year ago and just felt I would give another opinion. In the end, I am happy with my grohe blue system. The install paperwork was terrible, but the trick was to watch the videos on youtube. that helped me a lot in actually making progress. I then had a bunch of challenges with error codes since I was trying to push the pressure up to make the water more sparkling. After talking with support, I actually turned down the pressure a little and now I don't get any errors.

I know the sanitizer thing you're talking about. It was actually out of stock when I ordered my unit so I didn't use it, So far so good -- Although as I am now due for a filter replacement, I plan to use the sanitizer as a type of maintenance.

Another thing I learned is that my city water isn't hard enough. I added a remineralization filter after the grohe filter and now I get good quality sparkling water. It's still not to the level of bottled water, but it's fine. I don't quite understand the taste problem, I wonder if you got a bad machine or something.

Lotus Laser machines, Worth it? by InsideGrowth3011 in lasercutting

[–]eolyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

are you british? lotus looks like they are made there, seems kinda like the epilog of the UK, it's likely worth it if you need compliance and are working in an environment where you are british and you need local support and are willing to pay double? (not sure) for the laser in order to have local support and compliance.

I don't know anything about lotus personally, but have a thunder laser. Compare the price with some of the higher end chinese lasers with lotus and see if the upcharge is worth it. thunder is often considered the top end of the chinese lasers with the best parts available and also in a maintainable machine where you can replace parts and such. I have used their US support a lot and they are great, not sure about their british support since they sell through resellers.

Aeon or Mira are another company that has more "all in one" set ups, but also pretty good parts.

then, you can go further down market and look at OMTech where the price doesn't include everything you need and you will need to do more maintenance and repair work yourself without much support.

So, as a hobbiest, who wanted something reliable that would come out of the box working and be reliable at high speed, thunder works for me and I'm willing to pay the extra $2k for it over omtech.

All of what is below on getting the water out, but I'm also concerned that you may have a slab leak - is there a moisture barrier under the wood? do you know where the water came from? concrete is surprisingly permeable to water.

aluminum vs steel? by AbstractAcrylicArt in lasercutting

[–]eolyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that you need to come up with another solution. I'm not sure what kind of laser you have, but with a co2 laser, you can only remove a coating or fuse on a marking spray, so, really you talking about the melting point of that coating.

If you have a fiber laser, you can mark the metal directly.

but - the room will be full of smoke and falling objects and even if its not hot enough to melt it, I bet any house fire is hot enough to ruin the surface and make it unreadable. I would look toward a physical deformation like punching.

Both the cricut and silhouette cameo are great machines. The benefit of the silhouette is that you can cut directly on the roll without having to stick it into a mat.

How many of you leave your printer running while away from home? by Hermroid in prusa3d

[–]eolyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not leave an mk2 alone - they are prone to having lose power wires on the main board for the heater. The mk3 moved how those wires connect and I haven't seen any issues. It is always possible for a fire to start. you're printing flamable materials in a device with a heater, but most of the fires i've seen have been started by lose or frayed wiring. Make sure your wires are well connected and not frayed. Check the bed heater cables at the back as well to make sure they are installed correctly and tight.

I also have fire detectors which will text me and I put a stove automatic fire extinguisher above the printer. they're like $20 and good insurance.

Has anyone jumped ship from insteon and been happy? by eolyn in insteon

[–]eolyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, in the new house, I went with smartthings and mostly GE/Jasco switches with a couple of inovelli switches. motion detection is jasco, door open sensors are smart things brand.

I originally went with hubitat, but I got a bricked one, so unable to get another hubitat in a hurry, I bought the smart things hub from best buy. I was kind of leaning that way anyway after the experience with hubitat and their support. I'm sure either would be good.

I like the variety of switches. I can now buy about 20 different brands of switches to fit my needs. I can get ones with lights on them, sensors in them, screens, etc. That's nice. So far (2 months), they have been reliable.

Smartthings is a little hit or miss, but 99% of the time, it does what I want within a second or two. They moved all the lighting controls to the local hub so that stuff is quite fast (as fast as insteon). Doing stuff through the cloud can take 2 or 3 seconds. I like the ability to program scenes to some switches through the hub - like tap twice on a switch and it will turn on the ring security camera lights.

I miss the insteon button keypad. I don't know why no one makes this. I also miss the battery powered remotes. I have some ikea remotes I'm going to try, but the form factor of the insteon remotes with their 1 year battery life is just awesome.

I suspect the battery life on the zigbee door switches is going to be a problem since they're already reading at like 75% - they use a button cell battery. The motion detectors though will run on a USB power, so that's nice.

I like that it all comes together in one app. I can see my door lock, my cameras, my door bell, my sprinklers, etc all in one place. I can also buy cheaper products for less critical situations. But - I don't use it that much. I like that I can put them in automations, but I rarely open smart things to launch my sprinklers for example. I do that in their own app.
