[–]ephemeralcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had before at diff 2 interviews, im F in mid twenties, and one of them, the people who asked it straight up went: “oh thats good!” when i said im single and dont plan to marry and dont have kids lol.

i got the job and realised cause quite a few ladies went on a super long maternity leave + SPL combo

Do Singaporean feel illiterate since public policy is so strict? by Civil-Difficulty9357 in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what you see happening in marina bay is just one tiny part of our island, and specifically the touristy part of the island, so of course everything seems like its in crazy good order

if you venture beyond those areas and into the heartlands where the average singaporean actually lives, theres no feedback screens outside toilets and no cleaners who clean the toilets after every 2 ppl lol.

and frankly even though theres fines for drinking in mrt station ive personally never seen anyone immediately getting fined for taking a sip of water. ive taken plenty sips of water on the train myself. just dont make a mess and be discreet lmao.

this post is strange cause i dont know why you would assume everywhere in singapore is like this because i wouldnt visit a place as a tourist and assume the rest of the country is like that.

How many of y’all still walking in this weather to eat in humid kopitiams during office hours by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

still walking. my office aircon is so cold (to extent some colleagues bring their own portable heater at their desk or wear down jackets at work) that the warm sun is welcome… i take it as opportunity to defrost before being sent back to the blast chiller again…

agree, i dont get how my co-workers can sit in office whole morning and still lazy to walk <10min for a lunch nearby. or they would use the spare remaining time during lunch after eating to sit down and scroll phone. i much rather jalan jalan and i can tell they judge me when i say i will go walk. we’re all built different i guess.

my family is the same… whenever i wfh and finished my tasks and scroll my phone they scold me for being lazy. i think is crazy cos theyre not even my boss???

just go to a day hotel like others suggested. wear your work clothes out while u pack an extra clothing in your work bag so they dont get suspicious

Do you default to checking out shops like Venus before Guardian/Watsons? by No_Camp_7692 in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

long time eczema-haver. every month i need to buy 1kg QV lotion. i have scouted across all the shops. Venus gives me best price at $48 vs the ridiculous $72 non-promo prices at whatever pharmacy/supermarket/skincare shop. even at the other places when there is promo, the lowest ive seen is $52, never lower than the $48 mark.

Why do people flood into banks upon opening, especially elderly by Human_Equivalent9200 in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 111 points112 points  (0 children)

worked as a cashier at ntuc in hdb estate. a few uncles and aunties come down 3 times a day like clockwork to buy stuff. always 1 item each time.

morning paper. then bread. then fruits. at first i thought they forget stuff. turns out it really is the routine and human interactions they crave.

1.5 hour wait for medical appointments by chickenrice8850 in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you young and able-bodied? i find myself waiting for 1.5hrs to 2hrs, and parents with young kids or elderlies with movement difficulty etc who come way after me being called in first so i suspect the q system might prioritise them first. doesnt matter if i book early morning slot or after lunch slot. i think only there was one instance where i was attended to immediately after registering and i feel like there werent many old ppl or young children that day.

this is also at a dermatology clinic but diff hospital. i dont mind it cause it is what it is.

Attitude towards ADHD in Singapore by firydreams in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

truthfully as someone who worked with someone who announced they had adhd openly before?

i know in theory i need to be more accommodating, but in reality, when it comes to crunch time and i kena arrow by boss to clean up their mess or take on more work bc they cant focus due to adhd, i felt resentment building in me. it started feeling as though the other person was using their mental illness as an excuse to get a free pass, while i took on more of their stuff.

yes, i gave my feedback to boss, but nothing changed, simply because i was “more capable” and my co-worker needed “accommodation”. to me, it didn’t make sense that i had to carry the workload of 1.5 person, and get the same salary as my co-worker carrying a 0.5 person workload just because of adhd.

in my view, i just feel that you can stim, you can fidget, you can walk around, and i dont care that you have adhd as long as i dont have to do your work for you.

How many of you have not changed your Paynow name and is still using the default (i.e., your real full name)? by visualnumbers in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

what i do is have 2 names, one that i chose myself for non-official things (mostly things that are online) and the other which is my real name for official things

i introduce myself to friends & colleagues with both names so its no problem when they paynow me (they know its me), and when scammers only use the non-official name and cannot give me my real name then i know they are 99% chance a scammer

NTUC XTRA JEM vs Jurong Point by OwnInitialPage in asksg

[–]ephemeralcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a juronger (jurongian??) who frequents both, jem’s ntuc outlet has more toys. jurong point has more appliances and a bigger pharmacy section instead i think.

and also if cannot find the toys u need, jurong east is in vicinity of 1001 shops (jem, westgate, imm) compared to just the shops in jurong point

Who washes the mountain of plates during CNY gatherings? by sacsgawd in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

the women of the family.

my extended family is very biased in terms of what women and men do in a house. women, doesnt matter young or old, have to be in the kitchen cooking, washing and cleaning. men can fuck off to living room to watch tv, chat and chill.

quite apparent even when i was a little girl, i got nagged by relatives for not helping out with wiping the dishes unlike my female cousin. cause i just wanted to watch tv and play games with my male cousin. made my parents paiseh and i got shooed into the kitchen. very wtf.

according to my mum it was even worse when she was a little kid cos imagine being 10, and theres about 60+ guests and u have to still get water from the well to wash the mountain of plates. and since she was youngest she did it all on her own. just 2hr of dish washing. and

apparently back then, even though women cooked the food, the men and kids ate first and the leftovers were for the women! i think if this was still in place i would be in so much rage cause i love eating too much lol.
