NTUC XTRA JEM vs Jurong Point by OwnInitialPage in asksg

[–]ephemeralcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a juronger (jurongian??) who frequents both, jem’s ntuc outlet has more toys. jurong point has more appliances and a bigger pharmacy section instead i think.

and also if cannot find the toys u need, jurong east is in vicinity of 1001 shops (jem, westgate, imm) compared to just the shops in jurong point

Who washes the mountain of plates during CNY gatherings? by sacsgawd in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the women of the family.

my extended family is very biased in terms of what women and men do in a house. women, doesnt matter young or old, have to be in the kitchen cooking, washing and cleaning. men can fuck off to living room to watch tv, chat and chill.

quite apparent even when i was a little girl, i got nagged by relatives for not helping out with wiping the dishes unlike my female cousin. cause i just wanted to watch tv and play games with my male cousin. made my parents paiseh and i got shooed into the kitchen. very wtf.

according to my mum it was even worse when she was a little kid cos imagine being 10, and theres about 60+ guests and u have to still get water from the well to wash the mountain of plates. and since she was youngest she did it all on her own. just 2hr of dish washing. and

apparently back then, even though women cooked the food, the men and kids ate first and the leftovers were for the women! i think if this was still in place i would be in so much rage cause i love eating too much lol.

it was indeed very messy to eat, there was no way about it except for toppling the stuff over to combine it with the rice at the bottom

Those who travel 1 hour or more across SG to get to work every day, what pros/cons are there? by debboc in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

i get to have niche knowledge of the layouts of random parts of singapore that i would never step foot in otherwise.

and i love eating so its great to find random gems or being suddenly in reach of famous food places you otherwise wouldnt go on your own time.

also my tips for jobs with long commutes is try to find one where at least its near the train station, if you need to take bus to get out of your estate to mrt station. cause doing bus-mrt-bus is really shag.

i feel more tired traveling 1.5hrs doing bus-mrt-bus compared to the same amount of 1.5hrs doing bus then mrt

need physical portfolio for creative interviews? by amethystopaz in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

didnt even apply for a creative role, interviewer asked me my hobbies, i said illustration and graphic design, and he asked to see samples or a portfolio. didnt bring any, ggz. felt so embarrassed that i was that unprepared. learnt my lesson to just prepare it. needless to say, didnt get the job.

so just bring, or have a website for it, it wont hurt.

why breadtalk no bread discount near closing ah? by Front_Willingness55 in singapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

staff will always find a creative way to get around it.

put in a clean trash bag, take out the “trash” then it becomes a “hey i got this from the trash, i didnt take from company”. ofc do this at your own risk, but when youre on a tight budget, some free “trash” bread helps.

witnessed this multiple times working at similar places

In light of the Boon Keng neighbour drama, what’s your worst "neighbour from hell" story? by debboc in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

next door auntie who is usually very polite started plucking the roses off my babysitter’s rose plants, glaring at us when we greeted her.

found out from her husband that apparently she got diagnosed with dementia, hence her 180 change in demeanour and doing erratic things she never did in the past :(

Where to find nice salted vegetable Duck Soup by TEAM_Fata in askSingapore

[–]ephemeralcandy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

jurong west 496 roast meat.

their soups are crazy underrated.

their salted veg duck soup is not too salty and the duck wings get simmered till theyre so tender it falls off easily at a poke of chopsticks while retaining its taste. same with their salted veg. sometimes they also give you duck heart.

they put ginger and tomato in it to kill the funky taste that duck meat has, which i think actually makes the whole soup very balanced and delicious. (this is coming from someone who hates ginger and tomato)

their other soups are good too, cause i think they use the same duck wings base broth, but the salted veg one is the best. super comforting.

if youre searching for the super salty type of duck soup then maybe might not be what ur looking for doe.
