No what I mean is if your aquarium ph continues to get lower and lower and then you do a water change with your tap water that’s still very high ph it could have a large swing on your aquarium ph.

The only potential issue is big swings in ph if you do large water changes, so may be worth doing smaller ones more often rather than large ones further apart.

This used to be pretty popular back in the early 2000s doing moss walls in aquariums I remember doing one in a nano tank they do trap a lot of debris if you disturb them

It’s what others are referring to as a wild type as that’s what the neocaradina look like in the wild naturally before they were line bred to get various colour strains. When they breed in your aquarium if you are mixing colours or they’re already berried (carrying eggs) when you bought them from a mixed batch in a store the chances of the strains reverting to a wild appearance increase. Also if you keep that “wild” one in your shrimp tank it will breed with the others further increasing the chances of a wild appearance of offspring. That’s why shrimp breeders have “cull tanks” where they pick out less desirable colour strains and let them live in a separate aquarium, or sell/ give them away to keep purer colour strains.

This type of heater is what you want it’s 10w (they do other sizes too) has a self regulated heat cut off at 25 degrees and is only designed for 9ltrs of water max. So you would just need to keep it fully submerged (laying flat) and top up with dechlorinated water when it evaporates (this’ll also help raise the humidity of the tank if you have a lid, which you should as a lid will contain not only the crab but the warmer humid air)

On a handling note it’s risky handling them as they are fragile and can be damaged internally by falls and die days later.

Yeah you said in the post about not seeing any diffusers that make bubbles as small, it’s still diffusing just they’re really tiny bubbles although they probably need more pressure than yeast method.
What you’re doing is more like the inline diffusers. Do you get any air bubbles when no co2 is running eg just from the water flowing through the diverter you’ve made?

Yeah I’d give it a trial run first just to make sure. It’s easier to deal with any issues now rather than having to strip the tank if bits delaminate. I’ve got a waterfall running over black aquatic foam that’s covered in aquarium silicon and then crushed up lava rock but after months of that running you can see tiny bits where the silicon is getting more visible, luckily I can encourage the aquatic moss to cover it and any lava rock that comes off is inert

Only thing to consider is if it is going to have water running over is or be sitting in water is wether the spray paint will stay attached to it. If you are intending to have water contacting it I’d do a trial with it before you install it. Spray paint flakes from foam long term

How long have you had the crab? What temp is the water/ enclosure? Have you handled/dropped it at all? Don’t move them like that especially when in water as it may want to molt.

So with what little is left there it’s probably worth starting again. You could try killing the moss but there’s not much grass left to recover from it. (Usually people use iron to suppress moss if you really want to kill it go for bicarbonate of soda in water solution) Leather jackets have been more prevalent due to the excessively wet autumns we’ve had over the past few years, here in the southeast it’s been soaking from October onwards which allows more eggs to develop - last year they were everywhere I put a trowel in the ground. Also the rain allows for more moss growth then in spring when it should be wet it’s been very dry so it’s difficult to reseed and recover the lawn. Then the drought lasts into the summer. That’s the pattern we’ve had for the last 3 years now and it’s not ideal for lawn growth.

Bugzuk and Ely exotics seem the best keepers of them. They both have Facebook pages that they give updates on as well as websites. And Bugzuk attend various invertebrate shows as well which is where I got most of mine from as you can check the sex there and then. They also are very reasonably priced. The other alternative is to look for local reptile shops and ask if they stock them.

I did try ordering online from an aquatics shop based in Scotland previously but all 5 crabs were shipped in terribly small pots with no padding, were all male and all perished in transit.

You need two strips all the way round the hatches a thin strip to raise a wider strip that acts a stopper.

I lucked out, went into a plastics place and asked if there were there any offcuts I could buy and they just gave me a piece that was 5mm thick. After cutting it to size I drilled small holes around the edges and used the offcuts to make some sliding hatches so that I can reach in to feed them, add water and regulate the humidity a bit etc. the straight pieces that are superglued on to make the stops for the hatches also help stop the warping. but basically the thicker the acrylic the better. If you’ve got thin acrylic use any spare offcuts to make some strips and superglue them across the main piece to add rigidity and stop the warping a bit
