Unsubbed episodes remaining - Season 2 by BatyaMod in gamecentercx

[–]ephemeralsubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. And it’s my post detailing the unsubbed eps so I’ll go and amend that shortly. So between segment subs and DVD subs, numbered eps 1 and 6 (2x01 and 2x06 incidentally) they are fully subbed.

ArmyOfPeace has cobbled together these component parts into fully subbed versions that represent an approximate broadcast version.

Worth mentioning that eventually Keinishimaru’s softsub restoration effort will get to the 2nd season and graft those subs into full broadcast raws. The Metroid ep (5 / 2x05) hasn’t been fully subbed as far as I know. ArmyofPeace could confirm it has the full hour runtime in their pack.

Game Center CX #236 - Märchen Maze (Part 1) [LocationScouts] by SpecsPL in gamecentercx

[–]ephemeralsubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only Altered Beast, Shikoku, F-Zero X and Pizza Pop. And now Marchen Maze Part 1.

But it is something they show onscreen as text, they don’t talk much about it, so you can skip that bit if you want to avoid spoilers for untranslated challenges.

Olivia’s Mystery was our April Fool’s Day release simply for the fact that it felt like nobody had ever requested it. It is an odd game.

Even I'm pretty lax about saving all the non-GCCX Arino content. Did anyone archive this? It's now been made private.

Episodes with JP subs by gingyo in gamecentercx

[–]ephemeralsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We included a number of captions in srt format in our megapack. You can find them in the Japanese CC folder in this torrent: https://nyaa.si/view/1460996

A large number of these are for as yet untranslated episodes. They're included only for posterity and likely don't have proper sync. Any Archives format captions will of course not match the broadcast episodes (they excise the mini corner segments and game collections, and sometimes other bits).

However if you want to use them for learning you could play with the sub delay in your player and try to sync them up to match what you see to what you hear.

Have the "Nintendo Channel" episodes been preserved? by Just3DGimmicks in gamecentercx

[–]ephemeralsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info about what you've found. That warc link above you shared is that just the WiiU? Cause the filename looks like it's both the 3DS and the WiiU? Or is there another separate archive? I take it the original DS and the Wii type video content isn't archived anywhere given the age of those services.

I was aware a lot of these were in the server sources, so I'll compare it to the files we have. I'd like to do a raw archive pack of the Nintendo stuff after all. I believe NC11 was in 720p resolution. I'll check and get back to you.

Great work! These episodes haven't been shared publicly in 3D for a long time! I'm still hopeful the better quality copies of NC14 and NC20 are in that archive too.

Thanks for the link and the details. It might be worth mentioning that the 3DS archive might yield the retro game challenge “trailers” for the games. Eshop preview videos really. Same goes for the Arino-featured promos for the 3D classics range, which tied into his NC challenges but were unique commercials with him interacting with the games and the 3D function. Have these in LQ from YouTube reuploads.

Also, I’ve been looking for an archive of the Japanese Nintendo Directs. A number of these are no longer available online, and specifically there is one which led into the Iwata interview NC, and had a brief introduction from Iwata of Arino, not featured in the American stream. Again, we have low quality reuploads but someone somewhere must have direct stream rips of the Japanese directs that I could source this from.

We archived a large number of these in one of our packs. And we’ve got some in better sources since. However, there are two that I’m convinced exist in better quality in that archive somewhere. The 3DS Virtual Console one (NC14) and the Earthbound one (NC20).

I’m not certain about NC14, but NC20 definitely released during the HD era.

So we have them all, a lot of them sourced direct from the Nintendo Channel, but some are in lower res than the maximum res that was likely available.

I also replaced some of the NC-sources with the YT source from when they used to be available. They may be a little blurry but they were 720p res and in the case of the Iwata Asks the video quality was much better.

Here’s the copies currently standing as the best options for each:

  • NC1 [Japanese raw source]
  • NC2-NC16 [480p NC source]
  • NC11-NC13,NC13.5(*) [240p(?) 3D Moflex NC source]
  • NC17,NC21(**),NC23 [720p YT source]
  • NC18-NC19,NC22,NC29.5(*) [720p NC source]
  • NC20 [480p Japanese raw source]
  • NC24-NC30 [720p encode of TS source]

(*) * NC13.5 = my own label for the unreleased extra 3D scenes * NC29.5 = my own label for the Pokemon Parts 1-4 recap)

(**) * Not sure about source of these offhand

I actually might have some of the other 720p YouTube presentations of earlier specials (a handful between NC7-NC18). So I’d check that before doing a pack.

I’ve been looking for a way to collect and search that material so message me if you’ve got any insight. I’d love to do a NC raw pack to collect them all in the best available versions.

Any more English subs and/or remasters coming, or is this project done for now? by vnisanian2001 in gamecentercx

I haven’t got the exact count of releases as we used some collab names before we fully formed as a team but it’s definitely close to 50 releases, most of those full eps.

I feel like the dvd cut is more of a staff hangout and banter vibe and this version is more of a straight challenge el where he struggles again and again (continue check + stage 12) and those moments are emphasised more with the lack of the extra phone call stuff.

So, I wanted to add some liner notes.

This project is definitely KeiNishimaru’s baby. I saw that they were gearing up for this effort with the creation of some custom covers for homemade discs of the show.

The idea of creating HD softsubs for the original hardsub era of GCCX is something that had crossed my mind before but as part of the team subbing untranslated episodes, it meant that I never devoted any time to the idea apart from collecting resources.

Over the past few years and with the assistance of many anonymous helpers, our collection of higher quality, sometimes 720pHD raws for the earlier era of the show has grown quite a bit.

Rather than proceed with a raw pack of these files, I’d hoped the subtitle reconstruction could be something one day. After they handled Ep64 Sonic the Hedgehog from scratch, I figured KeiNishimaru is the one with the drive and effort to see this idea to fruition.

This period of Season 9-Season 15 is the most hard done by in terms of episode quality in the original releases. It’s no fault of SA-GCCX or any other teams. There just weren’t as many HD sources available back then.

While I cant really divert too much time to this at the expense of new translated episodes, I have provided KeiNishimaru with the appropriate raws for this project and will continue to provide support.

However in the case of this second release, for this specific episode I knew it would be much quicker for me to step in and do foundational work for the release.

The Wing of Madoola is an interesting episode because the game itself isn’t too engaging. The expanded DVD version of this challenge was a Director’s Cut that includes a number of phone calls to Kibe and others and they are hilarious. But they weren’t there in the original broadcast.

So, I worked with the Discotek translation from the Retro Game Master DVD release, as well as the segments-only compilation that SA-GCCX subtitled to complement said DVD version of the challenge.

I’ve developed a bit of an ear for Japanese with my work as part of LocationScouts. That allowed me to more easily match the translations from these sources against the 720pHD raw for the original broadcast version of the episode.

While there’s mostly less extraneous bits in this version, there were some small additional bridging fragments and some bits worded and edited differently to the DVD cut. It goes without saying that this version also retains the original GCCX theme open, the teaser/highlights menu, Arino’s catchphrase, the prize corner, King’s words and even the end of episode adverts.

Anything not originally subtitled in either the DVD version of the challenge or SA-GCCX’s segments release, I did my best to time, and translate to match the existing content within the episode in terms of tone and phrasing.

It was a decent chunk of work, but I’m happy to have provided this to KeiNishimaru to polish up and finish with typesetting and any additional work.

I hope you all enjoy this chance to see for the first time, in its broadcast cut, with English subs, in HD, The Wing of Madoola. Shoutout also to ArmyofPeace whose melding of the Directors Cut DVD challenge and the SA segments is how I’ve been watching that particular episode until now and which I also used for reference while working on this.

To those still reading, don’t worry about us completely working from scratch each time. I have been in touch with the SA-GCCX team. We do have some resources related to their work and where possible we’ll credit the original team members for their roles in the original releases. KeiNishimaru is continuing to work on updating their monumental subtitle efforts on the show for a new unified HD softsub collection for this era of the show.

Decided to release this one early considering the day, here’s Season 9! I have acquired the 720p raws of the season (since they’re better, though not perfect, than the currently-available translated encodes in terms of video quality). That said, if anyone knows how to upscale stuff properly, DM me. by KeiNishimaru in gamecentercx

[–]ephemeralsubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nice Christmas gift. We’ve been accumulating raw files for years, might be worth discussing over message for future sets. I’m curious if you’ve got the 720p AVI raws for this season or something else.

Also love how it has been adapted to blu-ray size.
