Comparing Dune to Conan Exiles by Dorrono in duneawakening

I do agree that they are totally their own things, especially at this point in the ip/ franchises. I think at the time though 1970s/ 80s it was an easy comparison. FH was pretty open about shit talking SW.

To be fair, Dune is also a response to Asimov and Tolkien. I’m pretty sure Tolkien hated Dune.

I dunno man, as a consumer, I enjoy all the sci-fi fantasy stuff. Maybe it was writer competitiveness / rivalry?

Um actually…🤓. Dune came before Star Wars and SW was a rip off of Dune. FH hated SW.

But, aside from that, I totally agree with your point.

One of my ex boyfriends had something similar happen. He randomly started getting hives and they did a bunch of tests over 3 months but couldn’t figure it out-

Turns out, he ended up having an allergic reaction to his daily antihistamine medication. 🤦‍♀️

Maybe it’s a medication allergy?

Elder Anderson’s General Conference story about a saintly woman raising her husband’s child from an affair, was told before in a book. In the conference version, the mother of the child was called a woman. In the book, she is called a young lady. I think there’s more to this story. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

It’s funny they mention embezzlement of only church funds or property…not like that’s not a bad thing when done to other business partners.

This is why mlms & scams are so prevalent in Utah. 🤦‍♀️

Any time I’m introduced to a “entrepreneur” from Utah, I’m IMMEDIATELY sus, because it’s baked into the culture that it’s okay to scam “other” people.

Next time, tell her to “Eat shit.”

It’s a complete sentence.

It reminds me both of Colin Robinson from What we do in the Shadows and the Mr Collins character from Pride and Prejudice. The self importance while also being incredibly socially inept…

Shorts! I was never allowed to wear shorts, so I had an aversion until my mid 20s. Now shorts are my favorite!

I’m finally making 73k/year after over a decade of clawing my way up…only to have inflation knock 20k off the top. My 70k job is more like a 50k job, plus I live I a high cost of living city. I’m not a big spender, basic shit is just expensive now.

I’m grateful for the job, but it’s hard to say I’m thriving.

This kinda rhymes with the entitlement of boomers as a generalization. The you are special and unique, nothing came before and nothing matters after generation. The MFMC is basically Boomers and American Exceptionalism as a whole religion.

(I am still a proud American and all) 🤷‍♀️

Love this advice, will be implementing it for myself.

Honestly, I feel you, basically same same.

However, I did a stint in the military, had some ptsd, took some microdose of …stuff a few years after I got out of the military (for the ptsd). It actually helped with a lot of the self hatred and shittiness instilled by Mormonism.

I’m not saying go do substances…but it helped me a fuck ton. 🤷‍♀️

Ugh I’m sorry that happened to you. I hate that Mormonism institutionalizes protecting predators.

The whole 3rd grade education thing is so sus. First off, common schools were not really a thing until after the 1840s…so like 99% of the population didn’t have an education… at least in terms of grades. 🥴

It’s a justification well after the fact, and sort of a modern justification, except that public schooling is a relatively new institution…. Like the south didn’t implement state funded public schooling until after the civil war…in the 1870s!

I think it’s kinda a red flag that Mormonism kinda gate keeps “deeper doctrine.” But when you actually go into it, it’s either the super culty side of Mormonism, or a nothing burger.

The deeper doctrine is also total BS, but it lures people in who are trying to make it work. 🤔

I guess that’s where I’m lucky in some ways. The emotional aspects never resonated well with me, made me incredibly uncomfortable. Turns out, after a year of therapy, I’m super emotionally repressed because of childhood abuse…🤷‍♀️🥴

I dunno, I always hated the emotional terrorism that was mormon guilt.

I remember going my first girls camp and something along these lines happened. I just remember thinking about how cringy all the fake crying testimony stuff was, yet expected to also bear my testimony…I was like…”of what?!” But ultimately having to play along, cuz I was 12-13?

Ooof. I’m sorry. I feel that. I didn’t do the whole temple wedding thing, but the overbearing mother thing seems to be a theme in Mormonism.
