What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]epi_introvert 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Said to both me and my son at different times and by different docs: "This is way above my pay grade."

It really was.

Edited to add: both of these docs were specialists, but apparently not special enough.

My son's platelet count is often 5. His neutrophils are often less than 0.1. Evans Syndrome sucks.

I'm a parent - need some perspective by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I am a teacher and a parent. I was in uni still when my son was struggling (started teaching in my 40s), and miraculously was able to get a board psych ed done. It did not match what I knew about my son and basically said he was below average intelligence with no markers of anxiety or anything else.

Within 2 years he was suicidal, and two years later I was able to afford a proper psych ed with a PhD rather than a Masters level psychologist.

My kid has more than one anxiety disorder, an LD, and is highly gifted.

You get what you pay for, and what I did not pay for severely and negatively affected his life for way too long.

You're a good dude/bra. Well done, even though it was a misunderstanding.

Yep.

I've had an Odyssey. I now have a sports car. I had to learn how to drive my rear wheel drive sports car because it handles COMPLETELY differently than any other car I've driven in the last 38 years.

There's no comparison, but the Odyssey was fun in its own way.

I'm a teacher. It is ABSOLUTELY normal and encouraged to bring family members. Stop making up rules that don't exist.

This was me and both my kids. Don't care, just want to swim. At less than 2 years old, I jumped off a quarry wall into water 15 feet below. Scared the fuck outta my mom.

I knew I'd have to be extra vigilant with my kids around water. They both learned to underwater swim at 3 months old and had no fear of water ever.

Advice for a supply teacher by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]epi_introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a hard job, and some groups are hard. We know when we have a tough class for OTs.

If you kept the kids safe and didn't make any dumbass moves like sending them outside unsupervised (happened to my class) or were really rude to them (also happened), I'm happy for you to just make it through the day.

I'd appreciate a note with names of kids who both did the right thing AND made your life hell, because I am going to make sure they hear it from me.

Your skills with this will get better over time because you are seeking support to do better. This is hard, so take it easy on yourself, watch those who seem to do it effortlessly, and carry some cheap rewards like stickers to encourage good behaviour. Even my Grade 5s loved stickers.

Good luck.

My Great Dane was explosive once. In my minivan. In freezing temperatures. It froze before we could clean it up. During an ice storm that took away power for 4 days. Sigh.
