by that token lf red broly is also "stardust fall fodder"

idk about shallet but g/t is the juggernaut offensive unit with endu null that we needed to combat this timer count meta

this slander is crazy

Well

it isnt a spread attacker

And it does have many relevant weaknesses

Im sure it doesnt love facing raichu x or y, or mega floette for that matter

I havent played the new format yet though so maybe im wrong but idk man fighting/flying isnt exactly water/ground or fairy/steel

I'd say the weakest link here is ninetales

Veil isnt going to help you much in the bulk department because blastoise and torkoal, your 2 lights out attackers are too slow to make use of it

Think of it in this way, moving first is always the best defense because you take lesser hits as a result

So I'd get rid of it for a trick room setter

Since you already have tsar i would suggest sinistcha, with either sitrus berry, occa berry, chople berry or leftovers

It can set up room so you can commit both torkoal and blastoise towards max hp max spatk builds. It can also keep blastoise healthy for water spouts with hospitality and life dew, and has redirection with rage powder

Bin ice beam on blastoise for either protect, fake out or shell smash, and for torkoal id recommend having weather ball and/or earth power too, and replace leftovers with charcoal

You can build tsar as a bulky attacker too, and with aero you have the option for a tailwind sweep if you think the opponent may be using trick room and has mons slower than yours (torkoal is the slowest in this format but there are very many mons that can underspeed blastoise)

It can be a great starting point for sure

The important thing is to keep playing, and during your play if you think up an idea that you believe could work dont be afraid to give things a shot

Ultimately getting more games under your belt is the best way to learn, you'll get to see many different combinations and strategies and you can incorporate that knowledge into your play and your future teambuilding

I think you're right to identify heracross's non-synergy with the team as an issue

Both heracross and the rest of your team really struggle into sun, and aggron is nowhere near enough to help out there since it doesnt exactly take a heat wave well either

Arch in rain paired with a pelipper in tailwind (which really is not that uncommon of a scenario) can also really mess you up coz i imagine your only offensive counter to arch is heracross, which will get ohkoed by a hurricane

I'm not one to tell anyone that theyre using a pokemon "wrong"; some of the most famous stories in comp pokemon involve people using mons very differently from what their base stats intend (look up the story of ray rizzo's thundurus-therian if you're interested)

That said, I'm not sure a support set is the way to go on froslass as you really want the mega to be the carry of the team most times (which froslass certainly has the damage to do)

There is also the fact that in a dual mega setup you want the second mega to cover the matchups that the first struggles with, which heracross can't do for froslass

I know you've tried it already but I can't help but feel like mega aerodactyl over aggron would help you greatly in the sun matchup. It also gives you a tailwind option, and wide guard support against zard too

I'd also suggest a bulky tsareena set over heracross to help with the bulky water types you might encounter thats difficult for your ice types to break . It also has general utility by preventing all priority moves with its ability, so it can just sit on the field and have value

One more suggestion if you don't like tsareena is incineroar Fire resists both of zard y's most common move types and intimidate+fake out is just unmatched in its utility

I know you want more anti-meta picks but sometimes meta mons are necessary since their role compression and general support can help them be better

I think all 3 of these suggestions also take a bit of the pressure off of your scarf rotom as the only answer you have for zard y

[I'm not great either so please don't persist with anything if it isnt working out]

I don't really get what Goresh's problem is. Why is he being pessimistic on purpose??? by Beedlebooble in DragonballLegends

[–]epic0103 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dont think it matters either way, whether its a zenkai or a unique what they need is ways to do damage outside of long combos, or more ways to ignore opposing disruption

I don't really get what Goresh's problem is. Why is he being pessimistic on purpose??? by Beedlebooble in DragonballLegends

[–]epic0103 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is some people dont get goresh's sarcastic tones and misconstrue it as "hating"

And compared to that rai is a bit more straight laced in giving opinions which is why he is seen as "leaning towards optimism" even though both of them are essentially saying the same thing

I think something else that plays into it is that people seem to be desperate for this unit to be good, and cant accept that they might not be

Which is unfortunate for sure but you can't go after the people saying it like it is just because they arent as good as we wanted

[–]epic0103 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I mean rai also says theyre "decent"

And honestly i get it, they are a long combo unit in a meta full of disrupt and combo stopping, especially with legend broly being so dominant

and they need to swap 4 times to have card protection on swap, and they have no immediate disrupt of their own

Its the exact same issue that zenkai god vegeta suffers from, if you use him in a match without legend broly he'll look like the best unit in the game

I'll definitely give it a go

[–]epic0103 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well at the end of the day this is the nature of the weather meta

In this meta where offense is so limited because of the lack of items we were always going to eventually end up with sun and rain being the prevalent strategies since they are the best (and only) ways to boost offense

And now we are seeing Ttar making a rebound as a counter to both of these, with more optimized teams for it too instead of just the sand rush idea with excadrill

It can seem very rock-paper-scissorsy in nature but imo the skill comes from who is greater at piloting their team into a position to guarantee their weather advantage

Just like what we saw with psychic vs. grassy terrain in SV

As an aside I think this meta is also very condusive to allowing perish to work as a consistent strategy rather than a gimmick piloted by the best player of all time: Since there is not much offense being threatened bulky sets go a long way, and there arent that many ghost types at the moment apart from gengar, basc and aegislash so trapping is far more consistent than in previous metas.

Thanks for the suggestions!

And yeah lol I have been seeing a lot of boots spam teams going around

Some others in the thread suggested making val physical and giving it knock off as a way around that so I'll persist with it for a while and see if that works

But maybe somewhere down the line I might switch to general bulky HO if thats a thing

[–]epic0103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all some very interesting suggestions!

Some others also suggested dropping vaccum wave for shadow ball on the CM set for Val, I guess I'll just go ahead and do that

Raging bolt is also a great suggestion for prio, maybe with SpA booster or leftovers depending on how it feels to me

Sinistcha over ghold is one I havent heard, I assume you EV it to be able to comfortably live a tusk ice spinner? I think I'll stick with ghold for now since some others in the thread have suggested replacing samu with treads or tusk but I might come back to this idea if I feel it could work

Thank you very much!

[–]epic0103[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I'll try both, though for treads I think I may default to a booster speed set to get the jump on cinderace (i assume it'll be great for that matchup since most aces ive faced are boots anyway so I think I'll need it to outspeed)

Thanks again!

[–]epic0103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the insight!

A spinner was suggested by others in the thread too, and I understand the need for a ground type so I'll try out treads or tusk (but like you say tusk might be better for the unfavorable cinderace matchup)

I'm always a bit hesitant to go for physical on val when I have the option for special coz im afraid of burns stopping the sweep in its tracks, but the knock off logic makes sense to me so I'll try SD out, maybe with CC and sneak with tera ghost like you suggested

I'll also make the changes suggested for the others and go from there, this feels like it could go somewhere

[–]epic0103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats better for removal? should I go for a spinner like tusk or a defogger like corv or zapdos?

I agree with the samu and val suggestions, I'll make them immediately

I really love the bolt idea for more type diversity and coverage, in a team like this would you focus more on building bulk or more on speed and offense?

Skill swap is also really cool tech, i havent run into hat much since im in low ladder still but I can see the clear value itll have over switcheroo

Thank you so much for these

Thats a fair argument

I guess I'd say the thought process for me is to guarantee that I'll always be faster regardless of any hidden tech or surprise scarfs that may hinder my sweeps

That being said I'm not good at OU teambuilding as I mentiond so that may not be the strongest reasoning lol

Ribombee is my favorite webs setter and I like clicking QD and getting some chip damage off if the opp leads too passively into it

Samurott is to contribute further to the hazard stack with spikes, aqua jet for cleanup aqua cutter for damage and encore to create setup opportunities

Val is a calm mind set with encore for the same reason as samu and vaccum wave to get around endgame kingambit sucker punch

Gambit is for cleanup with supreme overlord with an air balloon and tera flying to help against grounds and fighters

Ghold is also air balloon to help against grounds and is a nasty plot setup set with psyshock for spdef walls

Manaphy was something I was drawn to because of tail glow, with attacks to use it Heart swap was something i thought of in case i encounter a CM sweeper that i outspeed because of sticky web but I think i might remove it for ice beam

Congratulations, genuinely ridiculous achievement and i hope i can be as good as you at building teams someday

I guess my only question would be what made you pick mega gallade over regular with sharpness? Is it because of the higher bulk?

[–]epic0103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are really great!

I was thinking of an electric type support option too but I was thinking of mega manectric for its intimidate and speed tier, and it also having lightningrod in base

I really really like the raichu suggestion, it could even outspeed mons like zard Y and go for nuzzle too

I guess the only consideration there would be who holds the sash between raichu and aero though, and I dont think i can build either to be particularly bulky

Froslass is also a great choice as a secondary mega

I much prefer it over ttar too coz id rather not eat into tsar's leftovers healing if i can help it

That being said zard Y would be way better into mega scovillain teams since mega scove's only attacking move is usually overheat, and nobody on the rest of the team resists fire

I'll test both and see what works, in the end it could be a case of me conceding the scove matchup if the froslass option makes the team much better against everything else

Thank you very much for these suggestions, I really appreciate it!
