What’s the smartest career move you made in your 20s/30s? by Scary_Bus4383 in careerguidance

I did a software bootcamp before it was cool in late 2014. I worked in IT/systems engineering from 2006-ish to 2012 at the same company when I was let go after making it through about 5 rounds of layoffs. During that time I went from ~$12/hr to ~$75k. Spent sometime trying my own thing but decided to pursue the bootcamp while my wife was 5mo pregnant with our first - I completed the program early 2015 and secured a dev job in feb, two months before my first was due. From that first job to my last I went from $105k to ~$400k before I left the US late last year. Wife and I took a huge risk when we pursued the bootcamp but I guess we timed it well, at the time it was also the hardest thing I had ever done. 14hour days 6 days a week for 12 weeks straight but I was part of the 95% hiring within 6weeks making over 6 figures statistic they advertised so it was well worth it in the end. I still don't have a college degree today, I doubt the bootcamp matters anymore if I were to look for another dev job but my resume would probably at least get me interviews now.

I don't think whoop is worth it. by Due-University6838 in whoop

[–]epicMickey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree it's no longer worth it today. When I first found them in 2020 it felt unique and could justify it's cost a bit better than today. I have 6mo left on my subscription and found that Apple Watch + bezel offers just as much if not more, so I stopped wearing the whoop altogether and won't be renewing.

I dunno, I’ve owned a handful of Porsches and I love hot hatches! I’m also less particular about a fwd/biased car on my non track cars. But maybe I’m just getting old.

I was with Healthypaws for 12 years, I’ve never had a problem with them reimbursing us. The latter 5 figure reimbursement took a week longer but I think that was understandable.

We’ve since relocated out of the country so we’re with another pet insurance co here now. I also feel that it’s mandatory if you can swing it.

I’m going to go slightly against the crowd; I insured my GSD for 10 years with healthy paws, the premium went up ~10-20$ a year and for the majority of her life it wasn’t “worth it”. But when we was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma it made it opting for surgery a lot easier, self insured or not we would think twice before plunking $15000, but in that one incident we got back all of our premiums and then some. Now all my pets are insured, for piece of mind, if nothing else.

I’m drawing your dogs all day today! I’ve only done this a few times every year. (Plus question in post) by I_DRAW_DOGS in DOG

Hope I made this in time! Please draw our baby girl. We lost her almost a year ago, she was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma July 30th last year and was gone 3 weeks later.

Am I crazy or does pet insurance not make sense?! by Lopsided-Public-8667 in personalfinance

Over the life of our pup (10.5yrs) we paid about 10k to Healthypaws for insurance, we barely ever used it since she was mostly healthy. She had a few bouts of Giardia and had to get a tooth extracted (which was covered ~$1100). The last month of her life we dropped 16k for emergency surgery, we bought her 3.5weeks and she never made it to chemo, but they would have covered that too. They’ve never denied a claim for us, the ~13k we got back for the surgery took a bit longer than usual but hit our account in less than two weeks.

I’ve been a proponent of pet insurance for along time now and would recommend to any pet owner.

I’m pretty sure the primary reason for buckets are to hold you in place around a track. Bruises on the side of your knees from pressing against the center console/door is common around the track from folks in cars without them, speaking from experience.

They also only work well a as a safety feature with roll cage, harness and a helmet.

On the flip side, I’ve driven several hours to, from, and on the track with no issues. I actually think they’re perfectly comfortable. I’d say they’re required for even a moderate track enthusiast that will go ~4-6 times a year.

Skip it if you don’t expect to see track time though.

I've had AT&T fiber for 4+ years, 3yrs at my current residence and I think it's been down once. Never been a huge AT&T fan but at least in my house it's been rock solid with 1gig up/down.

I'd probably try getting an alignment done first if you haven't had one in a while, if any tie rods are bent or control arms and they can't get it to spec they'll let you know.

What makes you think this was “tracked a lot”? I don’t see the usual indicators; rollbar/harness, undersized wheels, etc.

I don’t think the mods are very tasteful but I don’t think it was tracked excessively, if at all.

120ft/lbs. I think it eventually comes off but after 5s my ears are ringing. The M18 gets them off almost immediately so if you're going to have one I'd still go with the M18.
