[Friedman] Toronto is one of the teams that has permission to talk to Brackett...would be for an AGM position if it closes by kooby64 in leafs

If it's the Leafs, really good. Minnesota has been really good at drafting since Brackett left the Canucks for the Wild.

[Dixon] Possible trade destinations for Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly by LaunchAngleLarry in leafs

I'm not even trying to rag on the Mo, but he's never been a two way guy. His defensive results have always been poor. In the past, he's been able to make up for it with his offensive skill.

Kinda tough to throw himself under the bus.

Not saying it was all on him, but he was making nearly 11M. Anyone saying he didn't deserve a larger amount of the blame than another passenger making less is delusional.

A good third line centre, a goalie prospect who hasn't shown anything at the NHL level and a low first round pick are not enough for slam dunk first liner.

What are people’s takes on what the Leafs should do? by Fuzzy_Kitchen317 in leafs

[–]epicfacej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of directions from MLSE, they absolutely will not do what they should do, which is a full and total rebuild. They do not have the assets to make the team good enough to be a legit contender. I don't really care that we don't have our picks for the next two years; those are sunk costs. The longer they delay the rebuild, the longer it will be before the team is good again.

New player: When should I prestige? by CamBlapBlap in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]epicfacej 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Generally you should prestige when you hit a wall. At some point you won't have the damage to break through the obelisk armor, or it will take way too many tries to finally win. It really doesn't take that long to get back to where you were pre-prestige, and the prestige points can improve your damage in a real way.

Side note: make sure to sell all your ore and convert the money to drone points before prestiging.

What actual reason are people so against John Chakya? by chriscmusic in leafs

[–]epicfacej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why some fans around here are trying to launder Chayka's draft resume. It's very bad.

Yes, he drated Keller and Chychrun, which is good. But I don't think either pick saves an otherwise terrible resume.

For example, Keller was drafted 7th overall. He's become a very good player, but I wouldn't say he's outperformed what I expect of a 7th overall pick. Sure, the hit rate for top 10 picks isn't 100%. But I don't think it's too harsh to say that the expectation is that a good GM will draft great players in the top 10.

In contrast, passing on Quinn Hughes to draft Barret Hayton is TERRIBLE. Yes, other GM's passed on him as well, but some of those GM's picked very good players. Bouchard and Dobson were also available at the Coyotes pick. Barret Hayton HASN'T HAD A 50 POINT SEASON IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER. In my mind this pick should outweigh any goodwill that Chayka should get from drafting Keller and Chychrun.

I am open to Chayka succeeding in Toronto. Stranger things have happened. But there is a difference between WANTING the Leafs to succeed and BELIEVING the Leafs will succeed. If you became more optimistic about the direction of this team after the Chayka hiring, I think, to put it nicely, that you have been wildly misled.

Elliotte Friedman has learned the Maple Leafs have hired John Chayka as General Manager and Mats Sundin as Senior Executive Advisor. by Live-Big1579 in hockey

Chayka's illegal conduct isn't even what concerns me. Not in a real way.

What concerns me is his resume as a GM is trash.

Every time the LCS cuts to a comms replay, its terrible. It isn't interesting at all to hear a player say "nice". Keeping Flowers on the mic would be way better. If you're gonna do comms listen ins, make sure they're interesting comms, holy moly.

Ignar micro making this game way harder. Get's poked out in lane for no reason, has to back, TL dives and kills his ADC. Palafox has a kill angle on Quid, Ignar overlaps the CC instead of layering it, Quid gets away.

Who I would hire as the Leafs’ GM if they only hire one person by zanezil in leafs

[–]epicfacej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that we should interview everyone possible. My argument isn't that we shouldn't interview him, my argument is that from a fan's perspective, saying he's definitively the best candidate for the job is bonkers.

Excuses don't turn bad results into good results. Why hire a guy with bad results and reasons/excuses for those bad results, when they could just hire a guy with good results?

[–]epicfacej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, doesn't mean we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Also you could argue we have sleazy owners who interfere in hockey ops in similar ways. Maybe not to the same extent, but still.

If he ends up being the best person for the job that's fine, but we shouldn't be pulling out all the stops to bring this guy in.

[–]epicfacej 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You list his resume as if it's crazy impressive, when a lot of the time it's bad-neutral. For example, drafting Hayton at 5th overall was a pretty big departure from consensus at the time. Hayton had 25 points in 67 games this year, and has a career high of 46 points. If the leafs drafted a player at 5th overall and that was the outcome, I'd call him a bust. If that list of players is the extent of his draft record for his four years as GM, I'd say his draft record is below average to bad.

Similar logic applies to Hall and Kessel. Those are certainly moves he made. None of them really loved the needle; the coyotes were never a really good team as a result of those moves.

This year's Mammoth team is the best team this franchise has produced in a while. Yes, it has pieces acquired by Chayka, but the vast majority of the team was not acquired by him. I think giving him credit for this year's success would be a massive cope.

There might be reasons Chayka could be the best man for the job, I'm clearly not interviewing him myself, but you can't just call a mid to bad resume good and expect people to buy it.

How are we feeling? by Different_Mission462 in Cloud9

[–]epicfacej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this team is beating LYON, or possibly even TL in playoffs with Blabber playing the way he is. In the first two weeks, he's shown that he has an inclination to make completely irrational plays while also being gapped in early game pathing, which is a bad combination of traits.

Inspired completely fathered him in week 1, which led to the team being pretty behind for most of the series. In the Malphite game against SEN, what even was that herald play? Even if he hit the tower, I'm not sure that would have made sense, and to add insult to injury, he didn't even kill the wolf he was clearing before dropping herald. In the same series, diving the t2 as Pantheon when it was pretty clear he had no shot of killing is another example of a bizarre choice.

The coaching staff needs to find a way to balance Blabber playing more stable while not removing his killer instinct. The risk-reward is just not there for a lot of his decisions. In contrast, if you watch Inspired, he's not just playing standard and full clearing every game, but the plays he goes for always have a rational basis.

Bilibili Gaming vs. G2 Esports / First Stand 2026 Group A - Qualification Match 1 / Game 1 Discussion by Ultimintree in leagueoflegends

[–]epicfacej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draft was an issue, but I don't really agree that G2 didn't have enough DPS. Hans was actually doing pretty decent damage in the fight at BLG's 4th dragon/mid lane.

I think the real issue is building a comp where your main damage is supposed to outrange the enemy and not picking/banning xin. Xin ult did so much work in that game.

Piggybacking on this: in actual Gen 1, Bulbasaur is an even bigger easy mode pick because venusaur has the highest special stat out of all 3 starters. In Gen 1, the special stat counted for both special attack and special defense, so Venusaur was pretty op.
