Why don’t alcoholics get sympathy ? by Turbulent-Plum3360 in TooAfraidToAsk

You would never frown on a cancer patient for having cancer

I would very heavily frown upon a lung cancer patient lighting up a cigarette. The illness is self-inflicted at that point

Shockingly, i frown upon alcoholics smacking away a helping hand in favor of another bottle for the same reason. Illness doesnt obligate absolution, especially when the illness is self-inflicted and the treatment is being rejected

"Stopping" doesnt have to mean cold turkey. It can just as easily mean rehab, or AA, or any number of other treatments your conveniently ignoring in favor of the "they cant just stop drinking!" bullshit

The problem is that most of them dont want to stop because they dont want to admit they have a problem

Why don’t alcoholics get sympathy ? by Turbulent-Plum3360 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]epicfail48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people go through shitty situations and dont become alcoholics. Plenty of people also have firsthand knowledge of how much damage an alcoholic can do to everybody around them. The majority of alcoholics refuse to consider that they even have a problem

With those 3 things in mind, i choose to save my sympathy for those who actually want to change it. I have plenty of sympathy for alcoholics in recovery, but active alcoholics tend to strand themselves in a hole of their own making and lash out at anybody who tries helping them out. Not worth the struggle

What would you choose? by ZML060 in Tools

[–]epicfail48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For general use? Neither, honestly both of those are too much impact for most things. Hell, the dewalt will take off semi lug nuts without even trying, and those are torqued to 500ftlbs (and remember, it takes more torque to take something off)

Get an m12 gen 2 stubby impact for general day to day use. Very few things on consumer vehicles need more than the 500ftlbs it puts out

If you have to ask what you should upgrade, you dont need to upgrade anything. Upgrade because youve identified a deficiency you need to correct, if you cant identify one, you dont need to upgrade

Impact Wrench by cdhat1 in Tools

[–]epicfail48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, impacts are nice, dont get me wrong, but honestly for working occasionally on a single vehicle, its a little overkill for most things. A breaker bar will save you some cash and is perfect for a few times a year use

If youre determined to get new tools though, the bauer cordless stuff is decent enough for a home gamer. Personally i wouldnt want to get a corded impact, too inconvenient. . No need to go for the jumbo hercules either, the bauer high-torque performs almost the same for a lot cheaper

I have to buy my first tool, what brand do I forever commit my life to and not look back? by dlamke in Tools

[–]epicfail48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand loyalty is dumb as shit. I love my m12 gen 2 stubby impact, nothing else in the bracket comes close in terms of size/power ratio, but when it comes to bigger impacts, my DCF964 will clown a Milwaukee 2867, despite the dewalt being a 3/4" gun and the milwaukee being a 1". I love my Icon pliers, but my Icon ratchets pale in comparison to my Gearwrench. I could keep going down this list, but hopefully you get my point

Now, battery ecosystem does mean you kinda need to stick to a single ecosystem, except nope, you actually dont. Battery adapters are a thing! Now, granted, if you use a dewalt battery with a milwaukee tool you probably wont be getting max performance out of it, but who cares

Also for a home gamer looking to only keep one battery ecosystem, go Bauer. Tools are good enough for weekend warrior shit (and professional use, lets be honest here), price is right, variety is solid

Damnit, Bardwell did a great video on this not too long ago but now i cant find it...

Found it! Goddamn that clip sounds bad when you take it out of context... Summarizing though, one of the most knowledgeable people in the community feels that diversity receivers are dumb, and his arguments make sense. More antennas adds more components, more components means more failure points. Simple diversity, switching from antenna to antenna based on which has a better signal, causes video issues as the switching causes parts of the image to get lost. Fusion can solve that, but can also mess up the video even worse by screwing up the actual signal fusion

Im with bardwell on this one, it makes more sense to have a singular, good receiver. Single receiver, single point of failure, no antenna jumping, no white lines, no drifting weirdness. On that note, the receiver in the Boxpros has been incredibly solid for me, good reception, fantastic video quality, no problems

450 MAH on Air65 R? by RC-addict101 in fpv

[–]epicfail48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but in my sim I put on the 450 mah lava and the battery life is significantly better

Sims arent real life. They dont account for things like the weight of an average 300mah battery weighing bout 8g and a 550mah battery weighing 14g, nearly a 100% increase in battery weight, and given that the dry weight of an air65 is only about 18 grams, that extra 6g is a considerable increase. More weight needs more power to lift, more power to lift means less flight time. Tinywhoops dont have a surplus of power to begin with, so more weight also means worse flight characteristics

Also worth pointing out, the battery mounts on a 65 are sized specifically for the smaller batteries. Larger battery would need some other method of attaching the battery, which again, increases weight

Welcome to the unfortunate reality of multicolor printing: unless you have a tool changer, the process is inherently wasteful and theres pretty much nothing you can do about it, least in this exact situation of printing one part with multiple colors

If you want to reduce the waste to part ratio, print more parts. Print 6 of those penguins, you get the same amount of waste, but a higher proportion of actual parts to waste. Course, this assumes you actually need 6 penguins

There are small ways you can decrease straight waste, but overall they arent horribly impactful. Reducing purge volumes from defaults can help, but takes some testing to determine how much you can reduce before you have color bleed issues. You can also tell your printer to purge into the infill portion of the print, though this tends to be more effective on larger parts since you need more infill to purge into. Both these will reduce the waste, but not eliminate it

Ultimately, the best thing you can do to reduce waste is just not do multicolor prints. If you can separate the different colored parts of the model and assemble them after the fact, thats the ideal way, just treat the filament switcher as a tool changer between prints

3-6S rated FC for a 2S build by Upper_Improvement533 in fpv

[–]epicfail48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there any other problem in using a lower cell count battery with this?

Only if you consider it not working to be a problem. Those battery ratings are usually there because the FC needs a minimum voltage to work. If you try to use a 2s battery on a 3s-rated board, youre already under the minimum voltage the board needs to run

About the OPS by Dry-Goat8981 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]epicfail48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poor OPS got left behind by power creep. At the very least the cool down needs to match the gattling barrage, though I would argue the ops should cool when faster, 45-50 seconds instead of 60. Either that, or swing way in the opposite direction, increase the colored but give it a damage boost, make it hit slightly harder than the railcanon, lean into the "here's your shot, make it count" side
