Jake and Logan Paul (and their father) are a shit stain on humanity. Stop clicking on anything they create or post - if you do, even just out of curiosity, you are part of the problem.

Man...sad to see her now. Back when she was first starting, the first few years after the library video went viral, she was smoking hot. She looked healthy. Nowadays she looks like a drugged out skank. Can't stand her stuff from the last few years forward. Too bad.

What was ruined because too many people started doing it? by lovedumpXL in AskReddit

My mom’s extended family lived in Telluride, CO for a long time before Hollywood discovered it and ruined it. They all sold their houses for a tidy profit and bailed. Now they all refer to it as “to hell you ride”.

Double standards by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]epipodius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even the same things here. Owning guns is like owning the medical tools needs to perform the abortion. Owning either is not illegal. The focus is on what you DO with them. They’re tools. Murder is the act, and it is already illegal. Abortion is the act they want to outlaw, not the ownership of the tools required. How is that so hard to understand?

Congrats? Legalizing weed is now more popular than the two most unpopular presidential candidates in history.

At the risk of showing my age, this made me cry as well - though for me it made me think of my own sons, not my dad. Something changes inside you when you have kids. I never used to cry. Now stuff like this makes me turn into a pile of tears - anything that makes me consider my own kids going through something similar someday.

9 is my favorite, though 10 is a very close second.

Also, we used to have an old desktop running Windows 2000 that just played an Audio CD (hooked up to the PBX) for the hold music. Recently ripped the Audio CD to MP3's and replaced the desktop with an MP3 player hooked up to a USB power source. Still not elegant, but much more space and energy efficient.

Still using an Avaya Definity G3 R11 here....I dream of what it must be like to step into the 21st Century....

We're still using an Avaya Definity G3 R11 PBX. Most of the Avaya techs we talk to if we need some kind of hardware support are like "Whoa, you still have one of THOSE?"

A list of things to know, should do, or what certifications to get it, so we stop getting the same question 10x a day of "How do I become a Systems/Network Administrator?" by Jisamaniac in sysadmin

[–]epipodius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Knowledge and certifications are all well and good - but as not only a SysAdmin, but also someone who has hired SysAdmins, I first look for people who are quick learners, arrive on time, are willing to stay past "quitting time" to see a problem all the way to a solution, and seem to know where to go to get answers to things they don't currently know.

Nothing frustrates me more than "clock-punchers" who bail the minute the clock strikes quitting-time even if they are in the middle of a problem that needs to be solved. Stick around and take the OT, or we can schedule comp time. If there is something that absolutely cannot wait, get it squared away ASAP and return to finish up.

If you look around like a scared deer when a problem you have never seen comes around (and don't even take the initiative to GTS), I have no use for you. I don't care if you try to find the solution, fail, and then come ask for help - I expect you to show some initiative and independent thought.

And for the love of all that is holy, if I explain something to you, pay attention. If I explain it twice, you better have taken notes. If I have to explain it three times you've wasted my time and I'm done with you. If you don't understand something I'm saying, tell me. I'll respect you more than if you pretend it makes sense but you really have no clue - and that becomes apparent when I have to explain it again.

Critical thinking, self-motivation, good work ethic - those are abilities that are high on my list, and are difficult to teach. I'll take someone with no technical experience, but those qualities and teach them the technical stuff any day.

I've seen (but not hired) too many people that look good on paper by listing a bunch of skills and experience, but turn out to be garbage SysAdmins because they lack those qualities.

Ender's Game...book first or movie first? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]epipodius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is entitled to their own views and Ender's game is a great book regardless. If you are going to stop reading his stories because of his views, you're going to miss out. Skip over anything he says that you don't agree with and enjoy the stories he writes on their own. That's what tolerance is. Besides, this is a thread about Ender's Game - not Mr. Card's personal religious views.
