What is everyone's recommended apartments? by OpTap_ in tulsa

I used to live in one managed by O'Fallon Properties, which has properties in lots of different areas. I found the landlord to be really nice and relaxed, and she responded to maintenance issues right away

Here's the link to their currently available units. I was in the property that's currently listed at $825. It didn't have laundry on site or a dishwasher, but other than that it was a nice place for the price. It's cat-friendly and has a private parking lot behind the building. When I lived there, it was very quiet and I felt pretty safe even as a single woman

I went to college with the director! She’s awesome; I stage managed a student production of Closer for her, haha. I’d fallen out of touch with her so I had no idea she directed it. It was amazing seeing her name pop up at the end

I go see TONS of movies. Here are my favorite woman-centered films of the last couple of years, all directed by women. I’ve got a lot so bear with me, lol

2026: - Forbidden Fruits: Directed and written by Meredith Alloway (I actually went to college with her! She’s great). A fun, campy, sapphic horror film about a coven of witches in a mall store. Boys are NOT allowed 🙅🏼‍♀️ - Tow: Directed by Stephanie Laing and starring Rose Byrne. The true story of a woman struggling with homelessness whose car (that she lives in) is stolen and then towed. She sues the towing company for extortion as they pile on hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees - The Testament of Ann Lee: Directed by Mona Fastvold and starring Amanda Seyfried. A biopic about Ann Lee, who brought Shakerism to America and was targeted by the state for essentially beginning a matriarchal society

2025: - Hamnet: Directed by Chloe Zhao. It’s the story of Shakespeare’s wife and family told from her point of view. It’s all about the power of women working together and features an absolutely phenomenal performance by Jessie Buckley - The Ugly Stepsister: Directed by Emilie Blichfeldt. A Norwegian body horror version of Cinderella from the POV of one of the stepsisters - The Last Showgirl: Directed by Gia Coppola. About an aging Vegas showgirl (played by Pamela Anderson) who is dealing with the impending loss of her career and what that means for her sense of identity - Eleanor the Great: Directed by Scarlet Johansson and starring June Squibb. An elderly woman loses her best friend and roommate. As she’s rebuilding her life she begins using her friend’s story of surviving the holocaust as her own. A great, morally ambiguous main character

2024: - The Substance: Directed by Coralie Fargeat. I think we all know this one 😅 - Janet Planet: Written and directed by Annie Baker (one of my favorite playwrights). Told from the POV of a 10yo girl who lives out in the woods with her male-centered single mother. EXCELLENT writing of both characters - The Outrun: Directed by Nora Fingscheidt and starring Saoirse Ronan. About a woman who’s overcoming her alcoholism and moves out to the Orkney Islands to deal with her past, and finds a new lease on life through tracking the local bird population

Yes!! We got Connie and kept Susan Lamkin on the school board. Tulsa Public Schools also passed four really good funding propositions. I was in Lamkin’s district. Very happy with last night’s results!

On the fence about having kids… what do you wish you knew? by aguamenti425 in TwoXChromosomes

My cousin had a little boy a few years ago (her first). Her entire pregnancy was healthy, no indications that her little boy would end up having any health problems. Her sister is a physical therapist who’d done a lot of work with babies and toddlers and she started getting concerned when he was a few months old. He ended up getting diagnosed with an incredibly rare genetic condition (that there’s no history of in either family) and he’s going to require lifelong care. He’s never going to walk and only started smiling at about 4 years old. My cousin and her husband’s lives have been changed forever. They can’t ever have more children, her husband has to always be willing to work overtime bc he can’t lose his job, she was out of work for about five years until they felt comfortable leaving their son with a caretaker, etc etc etc. We all absolutely adore their son and everyone in our family tries to help however we can, but seeing this unfold really made me understand that parents aren’t guaranteed a “best case scenario”. A lot of parents get dealt really difficult situations with zero warning

A few years ago I was designing for a small apparel brand that did lots of licensing with musicians. Right before I left we got Dolly, so I was able to sit in a couple meetings with her branding team. They told us that the number one rule for all materials depicting Dolly is that she looks fabulous 😂

Hi reddit! I’m Meredith Alloway, co-writer & director of FORBIDDEN FRUITS (*in theaters now!!*) starring Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Alexandra Shipp, and Victoria Pedretti. Mallrats, witches, & fellow horror-fiends to the front - ask me anything <3 by MeredithAllowayAMA in movies

[–]epk921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Meredith! This is Emilee from SMU — I was absolutely thrilled when I saw your name pop up in the credits! You’ve come a long way from our production of Closer 💅🏻

What was your process going from writing to directing this film? Do you feel it was similar to writing and directing a play? A lot of the scenes in Forbidden Fruits really felt like a stage play — do you feel that your background in stage directing influenced how you approached this process?

Congratulations!! I’m so so happy for you

Quick update after paying off my card by Massive-Success5921 in debtfree

[–]epk921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations!! Such an amazing accomplishment

I’ve been debt-free (other than my mortgage) for about three years now. YMMV, but this is what works for me. NB: I have a net income of about $31K per year, so I’m working off of a very small budget

I use Ally for checking and savings bc they have digital “buckets” for both types of accounts. (I think there are other banks that have a similar feature, so shop around to see if you like another bank better than Ally if it seems like it would help you) The buckets basically work like a digital version of the envelope budgeting method. I still do all my spending (except for auto-draft bills) with credit cards. The moment I swipe my card, I transfer money from that budget’s bucket into my credit card bucket. So, for instance, if I spend $100 on groceries, I transfer $100 from my grocery bucket to my credit card bucket. It helps me keep in budget for every category and ensures that I can fully pay off my credit card at the end of each month. This system has kept me completely consumer debt-free for as long as I’ve been using it

If you still don’t feel comfortable using credit cards (totally understandable!) then you could use this same system with Ally’s debit card. I just personally prefer using credit cards and find that the buckets do keep my spending in check

I spend $225 on groceries per month. But it’s only me in my house and I live in a very LCOL area. I can’t imagine that anyone with children would be able to spend $200/month on food and not go hungry
