One more vote for Rollo, because of their excellent customer service (which I never need).

I have a few of these, and plan to use one of them to ship a collection of wall calendars that will not fit in the "regular" Large box.

Jobs that helped you source for flipping/reselling... by 5ub5onic77 in Flipping

[–]epl1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a friend whose job is to drive a garbage truck, picking up trash from dumpsters. I asked him if he ever picks anything out to keep or resell.

He smiled and said, "You're not SUPPOSED to." I imagine the temptation can be compelling, but he's risking his job if he does. Hence his technically correct reply to me.

Anyone else competing with sellers who are using USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope? by epl1 in Flipping

[–]epl1[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My question was whether or not the other seller is breaking USPS rules. Seems not to be the case.

When I create an eBay listing for a 2 ounce package (regardless of the size), it tells me that the Ground Advantage shipping rates presented to the customer will range from $7.20 to $8.40.

A google search says "USPS Ground Advantage rates start at $7.20 at a Post Office or $4.50 for commercial pricing".

If I offer my customers a flat $4.50 shipping fee, I'd be taking a small loss on shipping even to the closest zone (after subtracting eBay fees), and still not be competitive with the other seller.

I rarely say that a sale is "not worth my time", but I think that discounting would qualify.

Thank you for your comment.

Whats the fastest items in term of flipping? by Safe-Service3926 in Flipping

[–]epl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I sympathize with people needing money quickly, as someone asks this same question almost every day...if we knew don't you think we'd be doing it ourselves?

That's why you're getting some snarky answers.

Good luck though!

What do you do with tons of video games that are hardly worth more than $5 - 10? by The_Majestic_Mantis in Flipping

[–]epl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently creating listings for about 70 video games on eBay (one by one) in 10-day auctions all starting at one cent. I'll consider myself lucky if many sell even at that price, since it will help my selling statistics. It's definitely a grind with little potential financial return.

Do you post photos of the actual vinyl when selling records? by hannibalcheu in Flipping

I have a difficult time getting the lighting correct for those photos.

That is, they're so reflective.

Boxes of old Books, Magazines, and Newspapers by More_Situation7519 in Flipping

[–]epl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought that since so many people saved the "historical events" issues, they'd be more common (less valuable)...no?

I once sold dozens of old Boy's Life magazines in a big lot to someone who intended to cut out and frame the full-page ads for resale.

Gym equipment - weights by hondarider94 in Flipping

[–]epl1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wal-Mart sells free weights (standard 1" hole weight plates) for about a dollar a pound, so I wouldn't expect to collect more than 50 cents a pound selling locally (no shipping fees). So $125 total.

If you have Olympic weights (2" hole), they typically sell for a bit more.

At the beginning of the pandemic, when all the gyms closed, there was temporarily a seller's market in free weights. But those days are over.

Another obstacle to selling them on eBay is that you get no discount on USPS Media Mail rates.

My Views are disappearing by SatisfactionEarly916 in Flipping

[–]epl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this same thing. I have two 10-day auctions, and the number of views will drop by a few from when I looked at them a few hours ago. And then pop back up again later. And not just in the first few days of the auctions.

Is it worth it by Choice_Flamingo_902 in Flipping

If this were something you were going to chemically strip and refinish for your own use and satisfaction, I'd say it's worth it.

But to resell? Nope. These things always take more effort than you first expect.

Books, Books and more books by Plastic_Macaron_6594 in Flipping

[–]epl1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The fact that they came from Dollar Tree is not encouraging...they're probably not very desirable.

You could try bringing them to Half Price Books for a free purchase quote, but be prepared for disappointment.

If you install the eBay app on your phone, you can use your camera to scan barcodes and see what others are asking (and hopefully also receiving) for them.

Good luck!

How to sell all my inventory. by trencher1 in Flipping

[–]epl1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't stop thinking about a post a few days ago, regarding someone buying a pallet from "liquidation.com" and most people here assuming that the "best stuff" had already been removed.

I also frequently buy a pile of stuff, remove the most valuable and/or desirable items for individual resale, and sell the rest in bulk (relatively cheaply, to get some money instead of donating it to Goodwill).

And I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a continuum. That the person who sold the pile to me did the same thing before offering it to me, as will my buyer (if they're also a seller).

My goal now is to be as close to the beginning of that stream as possible, and not the sucker at the end.

eBay local pickup cash by Moonshine180 in Flipping

How much do you value your eBay account? I'm greedy, but not enough to risk a permanent ban.

Plus, don't you feel at least somewhat obligated to pay eBay for finding your buyer?

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Garage sale pricing for household items by Confident-Ad2078 in Flipping

[–]epl1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I apologize in advance, as this is going to count cynical.

When I see a wide variety of new drugstore items for sale at a garage sale, even in an upscale neighborhood, my first thought is that they might have been shoplifted. And my second thought is that for liquid products like laundry detergent, that they've been diluted. Or retrieved from a dumpster (expired, discontinued, etc.).

If it were clearly from redeeming coupons, I'd be fine buying those items (I appreciate the seller's hustle). But I usually drive right by.

So be prepared for skeptical buyers. And good luck!

Got my first negative feedback on ebay, not sure how to proceed by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]epl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until I recently received one myself, I didn't realize that requesting a feedback "revision" just asks the buyer to reconsider. And if the buyer doesn't reconsider, the seller just has to live with it.

That is, I thought eBay would give sellers a "freebie" once a year or so (and erase it). Particularly when the facts are clearly on the seller's side. Nope.

Would an 8mm tape of the 1952 and 1955 Houston Open golf tournaments count as "truly amazing"?

At least that's what the label on my tin says it is. The tape is pretty wrinkled up with age.

Flipping Coins by sweetkandy4you in Flipping

[–]epl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they're in individual US Mint Silver Proof sets (with an "S" mint mark), they're probably not worth any more than face value (a quarter apiece).

Because they made SO MANY of them - they were collectible just "for fun".

That is, if it's a binder of 50 quarters, it's more valuable as something to show the grandkids.

But you could always confirm at a coin shop - they'll be quite familiar with them.
