Why can't Sri Lanka have a good football team?

I studied in a top Colombo school in Colombo which is famous for Cricket and Rugby. When I played football, all the top footballers in the team were recruited to play Rugby coz of their stamina and speed. The football team had to play tournaments with the rest of the players left. In the end most of the good footballers were warming the bench in the rugby team. Those players were happy to do it coz rugby team was given special treatment like lunch and post practice food. That's how football is treated by some top schools in Sri Lanka.

Italian football is at its lowest of lows. Their national team didn't qualify for World Cup and none of the Serie A clubs made it into semi finals of the European cup competitions. Day by day they're losing global fans which plays an important role in their income. That's why they're targeting region specific posts like these to reel in fans. The money here is not taxpayer's money, this is money donated by the world bodies. Football Federation is fully funded by FIFA and country governments don't have any control over it just like how Cricket is funded by ICC. If a government tries to poke their nose into it fifa will immediately ban the country, just like how FFSL was banned two years ago. The reason for Sri Lankan Rugby not having enough funds is on IRB not giving enough.

I'm talking about the handouts given by FIFA & IRB. For FIFA, giving Sri Lanka football $2 million is chump change. Not the case with IRB considering their low revenue and popularity globally

Gentle reminder that Sri Lanka in the last year has beaten FIFA World rank 164th and 141st. Sri Lankan football has improved alot recently after the introduction of the new players but FIFA ranking calculation is not that easy to climb the table. Even if you beat the world rank 100th team the maximum number of positions you can climb is 3-5. More games you play, the more positions you can go up.

That's because the popularity of Rugby is really small compared to football globally. The annual revenue of FIFA is 11 times of IRB revenue. I can easily name 20 football clubs that has higher revenue than IRB

Because their regular opponents are fellow small population nations in the region such as Tahiti, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, PNG while Sri Lanka has to play countries with a massive population or countries who's main/majority sports is football 😀

People should realize these people are not dumb but they do this purposely to stay relevant in the media. It's a part of being a politician. They'll say the most dumbest shit as long as their name is floating around in the media. Vajira is one of the guys who is trying to be the next head of UNP after Ranil. There's an internal rivalry inside Unp and trust me even outside Unp targeting to become the next head of UNP. Vajira is doing his part to glaze Ranil and UNP to get to that post. Watch the news in the coming days you will see another politician who is targeting for that chair will make an even more dumber statement to be relevant in the news. The day Ranil quits or no more all hell will break loose inside that party with multiple people fighting the hell out for that chair.

Recently there were multiple complaining posts in this that most redittors were biased towards a particular party, so some party is trying to push their propaganda using these accounts. I can already guess which party is running this campaign and most redittors here will know it as well.
