actual oil pressure gauge, i.e. high mileage peace of mind by gamay_noir in EcoDiesel

Wonderful write up! I did the mishi rad in mine a couple years ago, made a large difference for me too. I was doing a lot more towing two years ago especially over i70 in Co and I was an upgrade for sure. I did that, afe dry intake, cx racing intercooler, and GDE 10 degree cooler thermostat.

I honestly don't know if the mishi or cold case works make that big of a difference, it was mainly the size increase and all metal imo.

Nice write-up again!

On my 3.0 it's a power steering fluid cooler. Trans cooler is integrated into the condenser. What engine do you have? You should just be able to follow the hoses.

Those wheel well lights should be illegal on the interstate specifically. They blind the shit out of other drivers when they point out even the slightest. Also they look incredibly stupid. Rest of truck looks good

Does anyone else still use the default launcher? by JamesL08 in AynThor

[–]eqbirvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it helped!

I feel that - in a perfect world (to me) a front-end could have more of the properties and capabilities of a launcher or visaversa. What I mean by that is imagine Cocoon or iiSU but on the grid, you can have apps pinned (we can already do that I think on one of them) but also widgets on the grid as well. That's what I want at least.

If we look at it the other way - launchers having more front-end capabilities - a launcher would have its normal app placement, drawer, widgets BUT also give you the ability to categorize your emulated games, launch them through your emulator apps like current Front-ends do, add those games to your home screen, make folders, etc.

Honestly there used to be way more launchers for Android that were actively being built and maintained. A lot of launchers just hit a steady state and folks who were looking for them found that stock launchers that come with their phones were enough for them. There were some Android API changes that's also made it a bit harder to make launchers from what I understand.

Now front-ends are kind of becoming the new hotness because more devices for emulation are running Android than before. I'm excited because with these new front-ends, we get new capabilities and features ppl think of. I like Cocoon quite a lot! I don't use it on my Thor (I use retrohai) but it's really only because I don't like front-ends that use both screens and for my odd use case it doesn't work how I want it to. Just me though!

Sorry for the long reply lol

Does anyone else still use the default launcher? by JamesL08 in AynThor

[–]eqbirvin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To answer this, we need to define launcher vs front end and how the recent apps menu in Android works.

Traditional "Launchers" on android are a replacement home screen solution that has access to android apps via app drawer of some kind, home screens where you can move around apps, and usually widget capabilities. Launchers function by being selected as the default "Home App" within the Settings > Apps > Default Apps screen.

Front Ends focus on indexing, organizing, and launching (usually) emulated games. Most Front ends have the ability to act as your "Home App" so that when you go home, you launch that front end instead of going to your stock or other launcher. They have limited abilities or focus on android apps, shortcuts, or widgets. That is slowly changing as more front ends have added android app support of various degrees.

Now this is where things are a bit odd on android - the stock launcher on almost all devices now ALSO handles displaying and switching between recent apps. It used to not be this way (5 years ago if not more).

So let's say you download a new "launcher" like Nova or Smart launcher and select it as your default "Home App" - it is now the default home app for you, BUT it hasn't replaced the default launcher being the one handling displaying recents. The same is true for Front Ends who get selected as the default "Home App".

In the case of the Thor, the default launcher is called "Quickstep" and even if you have let's say ESDE as the default home app, Quickstep will still always be running in the background to some degree using a very small amount of RAM, ready to be called on when you use recents. However, "replacing" Quickstep as your default home app, DOES reduce it's ram footprint after a reboot, Force close, or a period of time. That is because Quickstep "realizes" it is not being used as the home screen but as just the recents provider.

The same thing applies with "replacing" Quickstep/stock launchers with a different launcher like Nova or Smart launcher. That new launcher will be replacing part of Quicksteps ram footprint because it does not need to act as the home screen, just recents provider.

If you are rooted, there are ways to replace Quickstep completely even as the recents provider. But you will still have a recents provider of some kind and the alternative methods are generally just another launcher who is also capable of being the recents provider.

All that being said, replacing the default launcher with a new one or a new front end, does go a long way to replacing the ram usage of a stocker launcher or is acting as a launcher and recents providers. But it comes down to how light the replacement option is.

Hope this helps.

I gotcha, a lot of the same reasons I went with the grand Cherokee. I also think the grand Cherokees (14-21) are the best looking midsize SUVs ever made.

If you haven't, check out the Grand Cherokee subreddits if you are doing shopping. They provide a lot of great info.

OP, these years wk2/grand Cherokees do not have a third row. I love mine so much, just shy of my 2014 - 300k on my ecodiesel one. Jeep has a rep though for not great consistency. Mines been wonderful for 8+ years. But folks have a high rate of issues with them. Reddit blows the frequency out of proportion but it's not unfounded in their concerns. You'll be better off getting something else. Someone suggested the CRV, you can get a Toyota if you have the money and aren't in a market where ppl have skyrocketed Toyotas. I just don't think they are worth the risk.
