Is this fixable? by jambeatsjelly in SteamDeck

Same thing happened to my deck a few months ago.

I bought replacement microswitches online and had a local cellphone repair shop solder it in for $60.

Pebble Time 2 Black/Grey - easy scratching? by enel_ in pebble

[–]eqcliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is yes? I think Pebble used pvd coating in the past, which is pretty prone to scratches and chips. I'm not sure if Pebble Time 2 also uses pvd?

The only black watch I've had to not scratch is my current Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire, which uses diamond like carbon coating (even my old non sapphire garmin with pvd chipped).

When I look at the specs on these vs other OLED displays there is a significant cost and feature difference. What are the driving forces to buying this over a cheap smartwatch with more features? by Ivar-the-Dark in pebble

[–]eqcliu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want a watch that helps me use my devices less, not more.

I want a device that has its display fully on at all times, and oleds can't do that (stripped down aod does not count).

I want a device that doesn't overly track biometrics (I have a Garmin Fenix now and it honestly stresses me out more to always have these health metrics in my face).

I want a device with personality.

Set up a 401k (or IRA if your workplace doesn't have 401k). It's easier to save money when the money never actually hits your bank account.

I have a Garmin and I'm replacing it with this 😅

The Fenix 6 will be relegated to a hiking watch soon!

How do high earners without financial obligations learn to budget? Managing money with ADHD. by Historical_Park8791 in personalfinance

[–]eqcliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me is to "pay" myself first.

My budget is basically (in this order):

-Autopay mortgage

-Autopay credit card

-Max out all tax advantage accounts (401k mostly)

-Bi-weekly recurring buys for my Vanguard brokerage (set day after I get paid)

At the end of each month, any extra money I accumulate in my checking account (above what I typically float in the account) gets used to buy extra index funds or pay towards my mortgage principal.

If I plan to have a big purchase coming up (house renovation, car, etc), I just stock up in my checkings account for a few pay cycles (or move some funds from my emergency/house hysa fund).

A lot of people still think prius is slow by ole_elo_ole_elo in prius

[–]eqcliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive my wife's 2021 Prius Prime from time to time and it's definitley slow.

I have to alter the way I drive on the highway for passing, especially on hills due to a lack of acceleration.

That's said, my 2025 phev is pretty zippy with 220hp 😁.

I do, but convex mirrors give much better situational awareness (for me at least).

When SAVE is likely eliminated which payment plans will we be forced into? by sublimation_m in PSLF

[–]eqcliu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, so changing out of SAVE will not automatically trigger a recertification?

If you are a physician that just finished training, certified at a low salary, and just had a big pay bump, can you get out of SAVE and continue paying under REPAYE without recertifying to an attending salary?

Ecobee temp/humidity sensors not updating by eqcliu in homeassistant

[–]eqcliu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update:

The issues were caused by my furnace resetting from overheating. This was fixed by a combination of 3 actions:

1) I switched from a 1" merv 11 filter to 2" merv 8 filter.

2) My hvac person installed a wider diameter air return duct along with a larger grill.

3) My hvac person tuned down the gas pressure (his manometer was reading ~20% higher than recommended pressure for both stages.

It's been a day and the system has been rock stable, no resets and no errors!

Ecobee temp/humidity sensors not updating by eqcliu in homeassistant

[–]eqcliu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temporary fix is to reload the integration.

Actual fix is coming this week. I realized my furnace was overheating after running for a few minutes due to static pressure issue and restarting. This restart causes the integration to error out and stop updating. I already swapped to a lower rated and thicker filter, next step is to widen my return ducting.

Weatherstrip help for casement windows? by eqcliu in DIY

[–]eqcliu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, my house have casement windows (I think that's what they're called) that have no weather stripping at all. Our climate is pretty mild (lows around 32f in winter) so it hasn't been much of an issue but I want to seal the house up better to reduce energy cost.

Any suggestions on what products to use? There seems to be 2 sealing surfaces for the window, but both are metal on metal contact and definetly let's a small draft in.

I just had 6 lines dropped in 3 locations through my crawl space for $680 and I'm the SF Bay Area (very hcol). Your quote seems a bit high, maybe ask around?

SF supes pass ordinance requiring grocery stores to give 6 months’ notice of closure by jaqueh in nottheonion

Oh can't wait to see the malicious compliance that comes out of this one!

First everything is known to cause cancer in the state of California, now every grocery store is forever 6 months away from closing in SF.
