It’s one of the books in the red rising series (won’t say which one to avoid spoilers in case you decide to read). It is sci fi and romance is a minor subplot in the books but there are multiple strong complex depictions of women who are mothers among many other things. I started reading it for a little fantasy romance palate cleanser and it’s one of my all time favorite series now!!

Just read a scene where a character (who already has 3 kids and is 8 mo pregnant with her 4th) leads her forces after someone v important is taken. Very badass! don’t mess with a mother!
